reconnect with nature Outdoor enthusiasts of all ages will find opportunities to explore, discover, and delight in the wonders of nature. GEOLOGY 101 Massanutten Mountain is a ridge some fifty miles in length that lies entirely in the Shenandoah Valley. The rocks under our feet represent some of the oldest mountain formations in the country. If you look down into the valley below, you’ll notice that very few surface streams exist. That’s because so much water flows underground through limestone caves. Dry caves, like nearby Luray Caverns, are among our area’s most unusual geological treasures.
