Industry News
Alaska Attorney General Action Against Fraudulent Timeshare Exit Company Serves as Warning to Consumers - July 2022
With the recent lawsuit filed by Alaska Attorney General Treg Taylor against seven corporations and eight individuals who are alleged to have operated a fraudulent timeshare exit company, the American Resort Development Association-Resort Owners’ Coalition (ARDA-ROC) today reminded timeshare owners to always talk to their developer first when looking to exit their timeshare. Read the full article here.
Don’t be tricked by professional-looking ads, documents, websites, or certain business ratings. These resale and relief companies usually shut down after a few years when they start to feel the pressure of government agencies or mounting lawsuits and simply start a new company. Some of these companies even allege they have a relationship with Massanutten.
Do you know how to SPOT A SCAM?
Unprompted initial contact | False promises - If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. | Upfront fees
We urge you to not be fooled by any of these companies. Protect yourself and your timeshare ownership! Stay up to date on the latest scam offers in the resale market at owners.massresort.com/billboard and be on the lookout for suspicious behavior. When in doubt, contact us at ownersassoc@massresort.com.
Key Advantage of Timeshare Ownership
– June 2022
Timeshare ownership according to American Resort Development Association (ARDA), has the advantage in a time of increased travel and accommodations demand that drives up the price. According to Business Travel News 2022 lodging prices increases average 13%, especially impacting individual cost of per night stays.
“With travel on the rise, prices have increased and continue to, but this hasn’t been the case for those who own a timeshare. Timeshare owners have been largely protected from the economic pressures that affect room rental rates.” Read the full article here.
Annual Dues & Partial Payments
At the end of each year, the Board of Directors sets your association’s budget for the coming year. Even though your account is billed once a year, you are welcome to make partial payments leading up to your due date. This can ease the burden of a one-time payment.
We are in the process of upgrading our property management software, which will have electronic (paperless) billing and automatic payment features. You are welcome to prepare for e-billing now by opting-in on your next invoice or by emailing us at ownersassoc@massresort.com with your request, name, and account number. Until we have an automatic payment feature available, please feel free to make partial payments online at the owner’s website. Visit owners.massresort.com.
Ski Area Expansion Updates
This year we celebrated our 50th anniversary with the theme - Ready. Set. We’re not done yet! We are thrilled to give you an update on the ongoing renovations and expansion plans.
The 2021-22 ski season enjoyed improvements in our facilities, slope expansion, and major technology. We are excited to report several of the planned improvements and slope expansions are ready for the 2022-23 ski season.
RFID Ticketing – Introduced in the 2021-22 ski season, this new technology allows owners and guests to book their slope-use tickets online, check-in via kiosk, skip long ticket lines, and hit the slopes when you are ready. Your RFID card will work for the whole season or just the days you choose. It’s a great way to plan your snow sports adventure and find available discounts!
Did you know? You receive your Massanutten Owners Gold Card discounts when you book through the owners’ website. Remember, you will be asked to present your Gold Card ID when checking-in at the RFID window.
Three New Trails – This season is when the real excitement begins with the addition of three new trails - Mueller’s Mile, rated “More Difficult”, Ridgecrest, rated “More Difficult”, and the Slot, rated “Most Difficult”. All will open for the 2022-23 season and will be accessible by the Peak Express lift.
Snow Making – Massanutten installed
50 HKD low energy guns and 6 automated fan snowmakers last year and will install 52 additional automated low energy HKD KLIK guns, 22 TechnoAlpin guns, and 8 SMI fan guns on existing and new terrain over the next two years. All new terrain will feature automated low energy air, water, or fan snowmaking technology.
Did you know? The new snowmaking equipment on the existing terrain will replace much older less efficient air water snow guns to reduce our carbon footprint and improve efficiency.
LED Lighting – The resort is also adding LED lighting fixtures to the new terrain and will begin replacing existing metal halide lights with LED lighting. The lighting project will save 41,000 kwh hours a year.
Ski Patrol Area Renovation – This renovation featured much needed equipment updates, treatment beds, skier service area, and employee lockers. Ski Patrol provides emergency services, snow sports safety education, and slope monitoring.
Mid-Mountain Grill – Located at the base of the Peak Express lift, this is the place where the chowder meets the powder. Mid-Mountain Grill also offers three permanent restrooms.
The Summit Club – The new owner’s only lounge was relocated to the top floor of the ski lodge. Stylishly redesigned, the Summit Club offers concierge service, complimentary beverages – coffee and hot chocolate, and features the best views of the ski area.
High-Speed Quad Lift – The 2023-24 season will see the installation of a new high-speed detachable quad lift to replace the Peak Express lift. A new “More Difficult” trail, Ridgecrest, and a new double black diamond “Extreme Difficulty” trail, No Hessitation under the lift will open for the 2023-24 season.
Exciting as all that is, we are still not done yet with summer of 2024 seeing two additional “More Difficult” trails, with one connecting Paradice to Mass Transit and another trail from the Ridge Triple lift.
This is all part of a 3-year expansion project that has included 6 new trails and replacing a 30-year-old fixed grip lift with a high-speed quad lift in the summer of 2023. Click here for more info on our ski terrain expansion!

Welcome to the hot sands of the Egyptian desert. You're part of a large archeological dig team that’s looking for lost artifacts near the Valley of the Kings. Your team has been using an old stone structure as a field office to run the operation, which started nearly 4 months ago. During that time, your team found nothing …until last night.
Just before dusk, a large stash of ancient artifacts was discovered. Instead of starting the morning by examining and cataloging the artifacts, you drew the short straw and had to make a routine supply run into town.
Upon your return, you realize something went terribly wrong. The other members who stayed behind at the dig site are lying outside of the field office, barely conscious and near death. Now it’s up to you to figure out what caused this sickness and help the team before it’s too late.

TAKING CARE OF:
guest memory
• Last month I had a guest return. She was a bride at a wedding I coordinated last year and she was attending a birthday party that I had organized and was managing. She raved about her wedding day and gave high compliments to me and our staff. It was wonderful learning what a positive impact I had made in someone’s life. - Amy H.
• During our summer operations, a couple of guests didn’t think they could ride the chairlift back down. I brought them down on our Polaris Ranger and gave them info about the resort and ski area they didn’t know previously. They said everything about the experience made their vacation exceptional. - Allen G.
Many years ago, a teen-aged guest was injured while skiing on an expert slope. A couple of days later, we found a note on our chalkboard from his father, which gave the young man’s name and injuries. It also said that the doctors said that people rarely survive the injuries that he had. The father finished his note with “Your people saved my son’s life and I can’t thank you enough.” Until the recent renovation, a photo of that message hung in our break room, and I still have it. Two years ago, the young man returned to thank us himself, with his eight-year-old daughter at his side. - Nancy B.
What do you enjoy about your position at Massanutten?
• I love the western slope for mountain biking and hiking. - Nancy B.
• The peak views at the top of the scenic chairlift are the best. - Allen G.
Rugged Cup! Take time to map out your journey across the mountain. Take advantage of the Resort app, to help guide the way! - Cody B.
• Building relationships, networking, and constantly working on my interpersonal skills. Also having the ability to experiment with new culinary ideas and concepts for our guests. - Cody B.
• I enjoy the fact that everyday I have the opportunity to positively impact peoples lives. - Amy H.
Working with returning guests and staff every year. - Allen G.
