INDUSTRY NEWS Massanutten is consistently made aware of companies that defraud owners like you out of thousands of dollars with the promise of selling or renting their timeshare. These companies typically claim they can sell/rent your timeshare, allege they have a ready buyer/renter and usually charge large upfront fees. There are also relief companies which typically claim that you can be released from your contract and/ or relieved of your annual maintenance/assessment fees. Some of these companies even allege they have a relationship with Massanutten.

TRAVEL PROTECTION A Key Part Of Every Vacation One of the most common questions asked these days is, “How can I better protect myself against events that might disrupt our vacation?” Fortunately, we have a solution with our new travel protection, with improved benefits to address the needs of timeshare owners. For $89 per reservation, you can purchase it with ease. Subject to plan terms and conditions, here are just 5 of the numerous components in the plan you may value: 1. TRIP CANCELLATION: Most people don’t realize that an unexpected medical issue like a sickness or injury, is the #1 reason people cancel vacation. You’ve heard us say it, now watch us mean it! We’re excited to be announcing that Massanutten Resort is moving toward sustainability with energy efficient solar power arrays – believed to be the first of its kind to a major ski and summer resort in Virginia! Owners and guests are sure to start noticing small changes around the resort – for the better - in the year to come as we here at Massanutten Resort look to reduce our carbon footprints by implementing at least two solar light arrays in our move towards more energy efficient operations. The first two at the Woodstone Check-In Center and above the Laundry Facilities. The third project, waiting on approval from Rockingham County will be

a ground panel adjacent to the WaterPark expected to produce more than 1.9 million kWh per year. That is compared to the average single-family household which produces 14,000 kWh of electricity annually! The ski area is also undergoing several major efficiency upgrades including adding more efficient snowmaking pumps and snow guns, which will reduce total energy consumption by nearly 30% from the baseline. All of the ski slope lighting will

be replaced with LED bulbs, saving an average of 195,000 kWh of electricity per year. The Resort already has a lot of green initiatives including using energy efficient lighting, energy star appliances, water efficient fixtures, green cleaning products, solar lighting at the golf pro shop, electric vehicle charging stations, and smart irrigation controls. Through our recycling program, we divert 170 tons of waste from the landfill annually.

AXE THROWING PHARAOH’S REVENGE ESCAPE ROOM

Massanutten is getting a new escape room! Pharaoh’s Revenge will be under construction this fall at Woodstone Recreation. We hope you will be part of the dig team once the escape room opens in September/early October.

ARCHERY Starting in June, Massanutten will be introducing an archery program for those ages 8 and up. Each session is 45 minutes and provides instruction, equipment, and field time.

There were 42 participants that took the plunge in the Arctic Plunge on March 6, 2022. All proceeds from this event went to Therapeutic Adventures a non-profit that provides opportunities for those with disabilities, illnesses, and other health needs to experience the outdoors through camps, adaptive sports clinics, retreats, races, and service projects. CHEF'S CORNER

WITH MIKE RITENOUR

Enjoy a recipe from our very own Chef Mike Rittenour, named 2020 Virginia Chef of the Year at the VRLTA Ordinary Awards.

Vanilla Bean Ice Cream • • • • •

1 cup whole milk 3/4 cup granulated sugar A pinch salt 2 cups heavy cream 2 tbsp pure vanilla bean paste

In a medium bowl, use a hand mixer on low speed or whisk to combine the milk, sugar, and salt until the sugar is dissolved. Stir in the heavy cream and vanilla. Cover and refrigerate 1 to 2 hours or overnight. 2. Turn on the Cuisinart® ice cream maker; pour the mixture into the frozen freezer bowl and let mix until thickened, about 15 to 20 minutes. The ice cream will have a soft, creamy texture. If a firmer consistency is desired, transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and place in freezer for about 2 hours. 3. Remove from freezer about 15 minutes before serving. Yields: 5 -6 cups

Strawberry Rhubarb Pie • 1 cup granulated sugar • 3 tbsp cornstarch • 3/4 cup water plus additional 1/4 cup cold water, divided • 2 cups sliced rhubarb • 1 tbsp vanilla bean paste • 1 small package strawberry Jell-O mix • 2 lbs fresh strawberries hulled sliced (large ones quartered, small ones halved) • 1 prebaked pie shell

In a large saucepan, combine the sugar, 3/4 cup water, and sliced rhubarb. Set to heat on medium high, stirring occasionally. In a separate small bowl, mix the cold 1/4 cup water and cornstarch. Set aside. Measure out three tablespoons of strawberry Jell-O mix and set aside. 2. When the sugar rhubarb mixture comes to a boil, stir in the Jell-O and the

ABOUT THEIR STAY AT THE NUTT® One of my favorite memories is when we went horseback riding on a beautiful day in May several years ago. My daughter was 10 years old and had never been on a horse. Everyone made her feel comfortable. She still talks about it today. - Barbara My favorite memory is the very first time visiting Massanutten. My wife and myself went to get an oil change at a Jiffy Lube and while leaving she saw the stand to enter for a vacation at the resort along with a gift card. She told me “hey, you never know. No one has entered yet.” And then that’s when we got the phone call that we’ve actually won. Arriving at the resort was amazing. All the mountains, green as can be and everyone walking freely amongst the deer was a sight I’ve never seen before. When pulling into the room we stayed in, we were actually about 5 feet away from a deer!!! He came up to the car and let me pet him too! And from there I knew I wanted to be a part of this amazing atmosphere. Taking a picture at the top of one of the mountains was the best feeling ever. Coming from NYC this was waaaay out of my comfort zone, but yet it was like I belong. - Quintin We've been to Massanutten plenty of times, but July 2020 was the first time we had participated in the adventure park since our son is old enough now. The tubing was super fun! My 4-year-old loved it! The gem mining was also a real hit! My favorite place to go when we come visit is the top of the mountain to look at the valley and it's beauty! - Candice

Massanutten makes a week vacation feel like no ordinary week. Grandkids, kids, and grandparents doing activities that are done together. - Joseph I love visiting in all four seasons. Spring hikes in Shenandoah National Park with the spring flowers are awesome. Summertime is great - Spending time at the pool and tubing down the river. There are so many activities to keep everyone busy and having fun! Fall foliage is so beautiful around the area. Visiting the trails with waterfalls and amazing views are always so enjoyable in the fall. Winter activities are always fun! Some of the family likes tubing, others enjoys all the slopes for skiing and snowboarding! The indoor water park is fun anytime of the year. We have tree-lined fairways, with plenty of uphill and downhill contours, and gorgeous scenery at every turn on our golf courses. The Mountain Greens Golf Course® is known for its steeply terraced tees and fairways. The Woodstone Meadows Golf Course® is situated at the base of the mountain. It’s open and picturesque fairways are good for novice golfers yet offer skill challenges for experts. The Driving Range features 25 practice stalls and a grass hitting area as well as a short game practice area. Meet some of our teammates who work at our beautiful golf courses and driving range.
