TRAINING GUIDE

COMPETENT PERSON CONSTRUCTION RODEO

Instruction on 6 different topics. Participants may take all classes or an individual class. The six topics include:

COMPETENT PERSON FALL PROTECTION

Participants will learn course content through a combination of direct classroom and multiple workshops. Fall hazard identification; fundamentals of working at height; fall protection oversight; worksite programs; passive systems; administrative controls; fall protection planning; fall arrest system components; positioning systems; equipment care; rescue overview; system analysis. 16-Hours

COMPETENT PERSON CONFINED SPACE ENTRY

This program prepares participants to operate in the capacity of Entrant, Attendant or Entry Supervisor during routine entries. Hands-on skills will be conducted in a mobile confined space trailer. 4-Hours

COMPETENT PERSON TRENCHING AND EXCAVATION

Competent person level knowledge to monitor and perform daily inspections of trenching, shoring and excavation activities. 4-Hours

COMPETENT PERSON SCAFFOLD INSPECTIONS

Detailed instruction in scaffold hazard recognition and common safety issues including a thorough discussion of OSHA regulations, and manufacturers recommended assembly instructions. 8-Hours

COMPETENT PERSON RIGGING INSPECTION

Competent Person level of knowledge of rigging gear inspection, proper rigging procedures and load control using typical rigging techniques. 4-Hours

CPR | FIRST AID | AED CERTIFICATION

This course teaches recognition and care for a variety of first aid emergencies such as burns, cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck, back injuries, heat and cold emergencies and how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies for victims. 4-Hours

Designed to help enhance the safety culture within a company by empowering managers and safety leaders. 32-Hours

COMPETENT PERSON SCAFFOLD INSPECTOR & ERECTOR TRAINING

This course provides detailed instruction in scaffold hazard recognition and common safety issues including a thorough discussion of OSHA regulations, and manufacturers recommended assembly instructions. STI Certified Course 8-Hours

COMPETENT PERSON TRENCHING & EXCAVATION

The course teaches the hazard recognition and the proper way of working in and around construction excavation sites as outlined in the OSHA standard. 4-Hours

ECOLOGICAL SERIES – 4-PART SERIES

Participants may take all classes or individual sessions

FUNKY THINGS IN THE WATER

The environmental series begins with the most basic element of all, water. We will discuss how to keep it clean on our jobsite. How to protect existing waterways and drain fields. Dealing with stormwater runoff and required permits. Identify who all the players are, city, county, state and federal. Best practice(s) for preventing contamination of ground water, existing creeks and waterways. 2-Hours

SPILL PREVENTION: PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT

The second topic for this environmental series will deal directly with Spill Prevention. This will center around protocols, process and preparedness. The importance of having an onsite plan in the event of a spill, whether it’s a cup or gallons on the ground. The required gear and supplies needed on site for cleanup. Which agency’s to notify and the timeline for reporting, as well as best practices for prevention and mitigation. 2-Hours

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: THE UNSEEN HAZARDS

The goal of this session will be to examine the requirements of respirator use in the construction industry. The employers duty and responsibilities to their employee’s protection regarding hazardous atmospheres in the workplace. The various types of respirators and filters will be covered and their specific uses. Written program and recordkeeping requirements as well as required medical exams and fit testing of employees mandatory before they use a respirator on the job. 2-Hours

PLANS, PERMITS & PREVENTION: FRONTLINE DEFENSE

The final session of the series will focus on bringing all of the information together as a package. There will be discussion regarding where the environmental issues and requirements fall in the project planning stage through project completion. We will identify the required permits for construction, permit application and the lead time to obtain these permits. We will also cover the “cradle to grave” manifesting requirements for hazardous waste disposal. 2-Hours

FALL PROTECTION COMPETENT PERSON TRAINING

This two-day course focuses on the various components of a worksite fall protection program and also helps to develop the skills required of a Competent Person. 16-Hours

JHA TRAINING

In this session, we will not only review to fill out the new MBI Industry best practice JHA we will take a deep dive into why. This form was created by the industry’s leading experts from the MBI Safety Education Committee, with the purpose to stream line the industry. In the workshops students will assess several different tasks to identify, mitigate and communicate the hazards. The presenter will facilitate participants to go beyond the form and create a culture of communication in the pursuit of safety excellence. 2-Hours

MEWP – MOBILE ELEVATING WORK PLATFORMS –CERTIFIED OPERATOR TRAINING

This course utilizes the IVES training curriculum and provides a hands-on learning atmosphere to enhance the knowledge retention and attendee experience that goes beyond compliance. 10-Hours

OSHA 10 HOUR – CONSTRUCTION

Attendees will walk away with a knowledge of OSHA requirements, the importance of learning and adhering to proper safety procedures, as well as practical understanding of why safety conscious behavior is vital for each and every worker on the jobsite. 10-Hours

INITIAL MANDATORY SUPERVISOR ALCOHOL & DRUG TRAINING

This session meets DOT’s recommendations and requirements for reasonable suspicion training for supervisors, the presenter will review regulatory requirements, identification practices, and reporting process. Attendees upon successful completion of the course will receive a certificate of completion.

OSHA 30 HOUR - CONSTRUCTION

Participants receive high level safety knowledge from a field leader perspective to understand and implement OSHA regulations and requirements on jobsites. Instruction is blended learning with lecture, interactive presentations, group activities and live demonstrations. 30-Hours

SESSION 1: OSHA RECORDKEEPING – 300 LOGS PLUS – HOW TO CONDUCT A THOROUGH INCIDENT INVESTIGATION

In this session, we will review how to properly complete the previous year’s OSHA 300 A Log. Learning objectives will include discerning injury types to be including on the 300 A Log; assessing the appropriate category assignment and reviewing reporting requirements. There will also be time for Q & A with the instructor. 2 hrs.

SESSION 2: HOW TO CONDUCT AN INCIDENT /

ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION – 10 STEP GUIDE

In this session, we will review the different types of incidents and protocols for properly conducting a thorough investigation. Attendees will review and utilize the 10-step investigation tool, perform several simulated exercises to ensure their competency for the core disciplines as well as take a deep dive into the different types of root cause analysis, alert risk assessment, SiF analysis, corrective action tracking and indirect cost analysis. 2 hrs.

SESSION 3: HOW TO MANAGE AN OSHA INSPECTION / INVESTIGATION

In this session, we will discuss best practices, protocols, rights and privileges for all parties involved in an OSHA inspection and investigations. Attendees will receive a quick guide and checklist to take back to their company and jobsite that will help assist in their next OSHA visit. 2 hrs.

SESSION 4: HOW TO NAVIGATE AN OSHA CITATION

In this session, we will discuss the regulatory standards and application when organizations review their OSHA citation report. We will take a deep dive into employer and employee rights and responsibilities as well as best practices for organizational communication. 2 hrs.

QUALIFIED BASIC RIGGER & INSPECTOR TRAINING

This session will provide participants with basic level of knowledge of rigging gear inspection, proper rigging procedures, and load control using typical rigging techniques. This interactive classroom and hands-on workshop is the ideal foundational skill and knowledge building course for those new to cranes, rigging, and load handling.

WORKZONE SPECIALIST WITH AUTHORIZED FLAGGER

In this session, we will cover work zone safety and mobility policy. Also covered during this day-long program will be the different components that make up a temporary traffic control zone and each step involved in temporary traffic control zone operation. Attendees will learn how to apply temporary traffic control devices in accordance to the MUTCD, how to recognize temporary traffic control device quality requirements and apply traffic control plans to site conditions through inspecting, monitoring and changing traffic control devices. Attendees will be presented with how to identify the legal consequences of action or inaction relative to work zone traffic control and identify risk management procedures; describe why proper flagger operations are important; identify the abilities of a good flagger, the standards that pertain to flagger operations and know and demonstrate proper flagging signals and procedures.
