Addition of Whole Numbers Addition of Whole Numbers Whole numbers are the numbers that do not allow the fractions and that can be counted as 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on. It can be noted that they also include the number 0. The integers are similar to the whole numbers, except that they include the negative numbers also. Whole numbers have many properties but here we have to discuss the Whole Number Addition. The Whole Number Addition has three properties :Commutative :- This property means that we can add two numbers in any order, the order does not matter. Like ( a + b ) = ( b + a ) ( 5 + 6 ) = ( 6 + 5 ) both are same and produce same result that is 11. Associative :- This property is used when we have to add 3 numbers; like ( a + b ) + c = a + ( b + c ) it means we can group the b variable or number with the first variable or number or the third variable or number. ( 3 + 4 ) + 5 = 3 + ( 4 + 5 ) both the equation will produce the same result that is 12. Identity :- This property is also known as Zero property and it states that if you will add the number zero with any number than it will produce the result as the number itself. For example a + 0 = a. 5 + 0 = 5, 8 + 0 = 8 Know More About :-Co-ordinate Geometry

The numbers being added are known as addends and after adding they produce the result that is called sum. Here we have to add the numbers 11 and 34: 11 + 34 = 45 So the numbers 11 and 34 are the addends and 45 is the sum. We can take many examples to understand the whole number additions, some of them are :Add two numbers: 3 + 6 = 9, 2 + 7 = 9, 5 + 3 = 8, the answers do not exceed 10 Add two single numbers, the carry should be calculated. 5 + 7 = 12, in this 1 is carry. Add tens without carrying. 55 + 33 = 88, 34 + 24 = 58. Add three digits numbers, use carry if necessary. 364 + 574 = the first step to solve this will be to add both the 4's, then you will get 8, then add 6 and 7, you will get 13 write the 3 and put the carry on 3, then add carry to the numbers 3 and 5, than you will get 9. the final answer will be 938. We can calculate all additions by above methods. Some more examples to illustrate it :Find missing terms :- 3 + _ = 6 answer will be 3. 6 + _ = 11 answer will be 5. 28 + _ = 45 answer will be 17
