Definition for Subtraction Definition for Subtraction In mathematics, there are several categories of numbers that are exists or that are defined in the number system. Integers are the special kind of numbers in number system which are formed by the natural numbers together with the negative of the non zero numbers. Integer values are the numbers which can be specified as a subset of the real numbers. Real numbers are the numbers that can be written without fractional or decimal components. Integer word comes from the Latin word integer which means ‘number with sign value’. In the simple terms we can say that integer numbers are the part of natural number that can also represented in the form of negative and positive sign. On the basis of sign, we can categorize the integer numbers into the two categories. These categories are (i) Positive integers and (ii) Negative integers In the numbers system, Positive integers are the whole numbers which has the value greater than zero. In the same aspect we can say that negative integers are the opposite of the whole numbers that has the value less than zero. From the above definition of negative and positive number we can say that zero is the number, which does not consider the zero as a positive or negative number. As like the other numbers of the number system we can easily apply the mathematical operation on the number system. In mathematical operation we normally include the basic operation that is: Addition or subtraction. Know More About :- Operations on Rational Numbers

In mathematics there are various rules are defined that helps in performing the mathematical operation with the positive and negative numbers. In the below we show you the some of the rules which helps in understanding the concept of rules for subtracting the negative numbers. Negative numbers are those numbers which contains the negative sign ‘minus’ with them like – 4 or – 10 are the example of negative numbers. In the above example we use the symbol of minus (‘-‘) with the numbers. This symbol can be considered as a universal symbol to represent the negative values of the numbers. Rules of subtracting negative numbers: (A) When the both numbers are negative and minus operation are performed between them then perform the minus between them but sign of minus remains same. (B) If in case one number is negative and another number is positive and minus operation are performed between them then add both the values but put the minus sign with the final answer. Now we show you the some of the example that helps in understanding the concept of subtracting the negative numbers: Example a: Perform the subtraction between the given negatives numbers that are -8 and -2? Solution: In the above question there are two negative numbers are given that is -8 and – 2. Now we need to perform the subtraction between them. For this we need to follow the rule first. According to that rule we have to subtract the both number but remain the symbol of minus with final answer. Let’s show you below: The question says that -8 – (-2), - 8 + 2 = - 6 (here operation minus and minus of -2 gets plus). (Note: if this case the value of negative number is greater. So we remain the minus sign otherwise vice versa.) Read More About :- Cubes and Cube Roots
