With my final project i wanted to explore abstraction of reality. Abstraction can be defined as the process of removing physical, spatial, or temporal details or attributes in the study of objects to focus attention on details of greater importance. This was done by scanning and abstracting the objects down to a 2 dimensional representation and then folding them back up again into 3 dimensial objects. For each step the objects are transformed, their attributes and characteristics are changed, resulting in only the most important aspects of the object left in the end. Instead of using a camera in the conventional way, it was used more so like a scanner to gather data. The final output is partly generated in 3D software and partly traditional photography.
Take photos of the building from different angles. Then remove unnecessary objects.
Align the photo to a simple, low poly model.
Unwrap the model and export textures. This is to make it ready for either folding or to import into a game engine.
