After the considerable success of his 2008 film Slaves in their Bonds, Tony Lycouressis is getting ready to present his new endeavour, Approach. The film, this time set in the present, constitutes an oblique social commentary, delving at the same time into the human psyche in a unique and imaginative way. Synopsis Present-day Athens. It’s the beginning of summer, late noon. Due to a sudden blackout, six different pairs of ordinary people become trapped in six immobilised elevators for a significant amount of time. During their coerced stay, they are driven to unpredictable behaviours contradictory to the stable external image they have thus far maintained. The human contact enforced upon them brings to the surface true emotions and reveals a self that has remained well-hidden, until now. All the stories evolve simultaneously.
Author’s note Ordinary people, fighting to secure a living, their jobs, their houses. In a life ruled by insecurity they can only stick to their fragile self-confidence to get by, having no one but themselves to rely on. They all have their inner fears, hidden agendas and repressed emotions, which they try to avoid admitting. Just as they try to avoid the eyes of their unwilling companions in an ordinary half-minute elevator ascend or descend. But the elevator gets stuck. They are forced to spend time with their companions. They are forced to get to know them. There’s no communication between them. Just bitter, angry people, bringing to light each other’s misgivings and shortcomings. Hell in 4 m2. War begins.
