DNATA CATERING AMONG FIRST TO ADOPT INDUSTRY’S NEW SAFETY GUIDELINES GLOBALLY

Dnata, one of the world’s leading air services providers, has underscored its commitment to consistently delivering the highest standards of health and safety across its global catering operations. The company has adopted the new industry guidelines of the International Flight Services Association (IFSA) and the Airline Catering Association (ACA). The guidelines support the airline and airline catering industries worldwide as they take actions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Launched in early February, the ACA/IFSA guidance provides a sensible approach to implementation, highlighting ways in which individual locations and processes can best be re-engineered to meet the updated health and safety

standards. Although COVID-19 is not a foodborne illness, it also provides direction for risk assessment and mitigation. The guidance was developed

by representatives of caterers, airlines, suppliers and industry consultants, ensuring an approach that fits the whole industry.

EUROPEANS HEAD TO DUBAI FOR ATM

The First Major In-person International Travel Trade Event to Return to the Calendar since 2019.

Thousands of European exhibitors, visitors and buyers will travel to Dubai for Arabian Travel Market (ATM), which will be the first live major travel trade show anywhere in the world this year.

Organised by Reed Exhibitions, the 28th edition of ATM will take place at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) on 16-19 May 2021.

The rapid pace of vaccinations across Europe and the Middle East means that travel trade professionals will be able to do business face-toface – for the first time since the start of the coronavirus crisis.

Reflecting the post-pandemic recovery, the theme of the show will be ‘A new dawn for travel and tourism’.

Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director ME, Arabian Travel Market, said: “We are delighted to see such strong support from European delegates who are preparing to travel for business again, and eager to return to live events.

“With ATM lined up as the first opportunity for the global travel industry to meet again in-person, the feedback we hear from exhibitors is that the travel trade is keen to reunite, reconnect and rebuild.”

ATM will be an integral part of Arabian Travel Week (1626 May) – a festival of events, conferences, exhibitions, networking and briefings.

Furthermore, a new hybrid format will also see a virtual ATM running on 24-26 May to reach a wider audience than ever before.

ATM Virtual, which made its debut last year after ATM

2020 was postponed, attracted 12,000 online attendees from 140 countries.

Curtis said: “A virtual element is vital because many industry professionals from around the world will be unable to attend the live event.

“Some countries are seeing a slower easing of travel restrictions than others, and our experience from ATM Virtual last year proved how valuable an online event can be.

“The hybrid format of faceto-face and online meetings offers the best of both worlds.”

Registration is live for ATM and the show has already more than 15% signed up visitor delegates from Europe.

The largest contingent is from the UK followed by Turkey and Russia. Other large delegations come from Germany, Greece, Italy and the Netherlands.

IATA LAUNCHES EPIC TO ENHANCE DIGITAL COLLABORATION ACROSS AIR CARGO

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced the launch of the IATA Enhanced Partner Identification and Connectivity (EPIC) platform to support the digitization of the global air cargo supply chain. rub shoulders comfortably with traditional coffee shops and tiny artisans’ workshops. Everywhere there is evidence of the city’s much older past. Due to the city’s modern-day prosperity and temperate climate, almost half of Jordan’s population is concentrated in the Amman area. The residential suburbs consist of mainly tree-lined streets and avenues flanked by elegant, almost uniformly white houses in accordance with a municipal law, which states that all buildings must be faced with local stone.

Without a doubt the world’s most amazing place, the Jordan Rift Valley is a dramatic, beautiful landscape,

which at the Dead Sea, is over 400m (1,312 ft.) below sea level. The lowest point on the face of the earth, this vast stretch of water receives a number of incoming rivers, including the River Jordan. Once the waters reach the Dead Sea they are landlocked and have nowhere to go, so they evaporate, leaving behind a dense, rich, cocktail of salts and minerals that supply industry, agriculture and medicine with some of its finest products.

The leading attraction at the Dead Sea is the warm, soothing, super salty water itself – some ten times saltier than sea water, and rich in chloride salts of magnesium, sodium, potassium,

bromine and several others. The unusually warm, incredibly buoyant and mineral-rich waters have attracted visitors since ancient times, including King Herod the Great and the beautiful Egyptian Queen, Cleopatra. All of whom have luxuriated in the Dead Sea’s rich, black, stimulating mud and floated effortlessly on their backs while soaking up the water’s healthy minerals along with the gently diffused rays of the Jordanian sun.

wonders ever wrought by Nature and Man.

Although much has been written about Petra, nothing really prepares you for this amazing place. It has to be seen to be believed.

Petra, the world wonder, is without a doubt Jordan’s most valuable treasure and greatest tourist attraction. It is a vast, unique city, carved into the sheer rock face by the Nabataeans, an industrious Arab people who settled here more than 2000 years ago, turning it into an important junction for the silk, spice and other trade routes that linked China, India and southern Arabia with Egypt, Syria, Greece and Rome.

waterfalls, coves, woodland, winding trails and secluded sandy beaches. As the island is on the migration path between Europe, Asia and Africa, Cyprus is a birdwatchers dream, with flocks of flamingos frequenting the salt lakes, and many other significant species passing through or nesting. And deep in the forests, the national animalthe Mouflon - roams freely, with catching a glimpse of this timid, wild sheep a real treat for locals and visitors alike.

Exotic and rare forms of

wildlife also give Cyprus a special touch. Green and Loggerhead turtles breed on the island’s sandy beaches in summer, while the Mediterranean Seal and dolphins have also been seen swimming in the warm, calm, crystal clear seas of the island. Botanists and herbalists will equally appreciate the island’s green side, with a large number of local herbs and endemic plants, including the Cyprus orchid, tulip and crocus waiting to be stumbled upon along winding nature trails and paths less travelled.

And, just a short drive from the crystal clear waters of the coast are the pineclad Troodos, Mountains, where wild mouflons roam and cedards grow, and gem-like churches and monasteries are replete with unmatched Byzantine frescoes and icons.

AIR FRANCE-KLM GROUP AWARDS SWISSPORT WITH A SUBSTANTIALLY EXPANDED CONTRACT IN SAUDI ARABIA

Swissport will be serving Air FranceKLM Group in Saudi Arabia until 2025. The new contract expands the existing cooperation to all flights of all airlines of the FrenchDutch airline group, including freighter services, to and from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. With the 5-year commitment of French-Dutch airline group Air France-KLM in Saudi Arabia, Swissport further strengthens its presence on the Arabian peninsula. The new contract is valid until the end of 2025 and now also includes air cargo handling in addition to passenger services and ramp handling. The new agreement covers all airlines

of the Air France-KLM Group, including KLM, Air France, Air France Cargo, Martinair and Transavia. “We are excited and honored by the renewed confidence Air France-KLM puts in our business and our people in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia”, says Gerold Tumulka, CEO of Swissport Middle East. “By including all airlines of the group into the contract, we are the preferred partner for Air France-KLM in the region. We look forward to standing by their side through the market recovery and support them post-Covid as prospects get brighter.” The start of the expanded agreement is marked by a new KLM service from Amsterdam to Riyadh (RUH) four times per week, starting

in the week of 11 January 2021, which is operated with Airbus A330 widebody aircraft. PreCovid, Swissport had provided airport ground services to KLM on ten weekly flights in Dammam (DMM), a stop-over on route between Amsterdam and Muscat, Oman, where Swissport also provides ground services. The contract expansion supports Swissport’s growth strategy in the Middle East. Just recently, Swissport had added Al-Qassim as a fourth airport to its portfolio in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Overall, Swissport has been present in Saudi Arabia since 2016 when it started operations in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam. Swissport has since gradually developed its business from a greenfield start-up into an established organization with a broad customer base of established regional airlines and well-known international carriers. Swissport Middle East is also operating in Oman together with its partner Al Jarwani Group, which holds 30% of the joint venture. Since the start of Omani operations in 2017, Swissport Oman has rapidly grown its customer portfolio, too, positioning it as a reliable airport service provider for regional and international carriers alike.
