Safe holiday travel with pets
Holidays welcome thousands of visitors with their furry friends to the Sunshine Coast. Animal Emergency Service (AES) urges pet owners to embark on their vacations with safety in mind, to ensure a stress-free getaway for both you and your pets. Easter is a time when the AES hospital witnesses increased cases due to the following hazards:
Chocolate treats contain toxic substances that can be fatal for cats and dogs if ingested. Symptoms include vomiting and increased heart rate.
Hot cross buns are inappropriate snacks to share with pets because raisins can lead to renal failure.
Easter decorations like toy eggs and bunny ears may seem like playful items to your pet but can pose serious risks if ingested, potentially requiring surgery.
Keep them out of reach to prevent emergencies. If any of the above are ingested, seek immediate vet attention.
Begin your Sunshine Coast holiday with your pets armed with knowledge and precautions. AES wishes you a safe and hazard-free Easter celebration. We are open 24/7 and no appointment is required. Our hospital policy aims to keep you with your pet as much as possible throughout their treatment journey.
