Kristy and Danny Cook never imagined that a simple lawn care inconvenience would spark a life-changing decision and set them on the path to entrepreneurship. Living on the Sunshine Coast, the couple had long-term careers—Kristy in property management and Danny in the construction and concreting industry. Like many, they sought a better lifestyle, more family time, and greater freedom. Little did they know that a missed lawn appointment would ignite their journey to business success.
“We used to pay someone to do our lawns, but they weren’t reliable,” Kristy recalls. With no immediate solutions in sight, Kristy and Danny jumped into action. “Within 24 hours, we had an ABN and business name. It was an overnight decision.” This leap of faith wasn’t just about mowing lawns—it was about creating a future where they could control their time and build something meaningful on their terms.

Their confidence in each other and their decision to move forward without a backup plan were vital. “We were committed to making this work and creating a better lifestyle for us in the future,” Kristy says.
Kristy realised that the skills she developed from her career in real estate and Danny’s construction skills could be applied to any business. “It’s a perfect combination of book smarts and hands-on skills,” Kristy explains. “We collaborated and worked together to build what we have now.” Combining their expertise, they found a winning formula for their new venture.
FROM A MOWER THAT WOULDN’T START TO A TEAM OF SIX
“Our first lawn mower wouldn’t even start,” Kristy laughs, recalling the early days. Yet, within a year, they grew from working side by side in the field to managing a team of six. “As of October 15, 2024, we celebrated one year in business. We’ve gone from just the two of us to running four trucks and a full team.”
Their services span from regular lawn maintenance to garden makeovers, exterior pressure cleaning and even body corporate complexes and schools, providing comprehensive services for residential, commercial and acreage properties. The couple’s commitment to quality is reflected in their team. “We don’t hire people to be beneath us. We hire them for their skills and what they can teach us,” Kristy says proudly, describing their crew, which includes horticulturists and tree experts.
FAITH, FAMILY AND COMMUNITY
While the business grew, the Cooks’ faith and strong partnership provided the foundation.
Danny’s unwavering support helped Kristy reach beyond her comfort zone. “He’s always pushed me to achieve the best outcome for myself.”
Their devotion to their family and team expands to the community through their work with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. With government subsidies, they support and care for those who have served their country by regularly providing lawn care services to military families.
For Kristy and Danny, their entrepreneurial leap was about much more than just starting a business—it was about creating the freedom to live on their terms. Their routine allows them to structure their days around health, fitness, and family. “We’ve learned that if we put our health, mind, body, and spirit first, the rest will follow.”
The couple plans to expand their family and continue growing their business while maintaining the balance they’ve worked hard to achieve. “We know that pouring our blood, sweat, and tears into this business now will give us the future we desire.”
