Fixing a Leak from the Lower Part of the Refrigerator or Freezer Door Clogged tubes that drain self-defrosting refrigerators often cause leaks from the bottom of the fridge. Once the clog is fixed, the leak will usually stop. Follow the steps below and always make sure to keep safety a high priority: • • • • • • • •
Unplug the refrigerator. Look and determine where your self-defrosting refrigerator drains. Remove the cover panel, and where necessary, the floor panel. Remove the bottom end drain tube from the refrigerator and feed it into a bucket to catch any melted water. Remove the upper portion of the drain tube and do the same. Use an ordinary hair dryer to thaw any frozen areas of the drain tube. Run hot air through the tube to dislodge any clogs by holding the upper end of the tube near a faucet of running hot water. Reattach the drain tube once cleared.
