Education 2009 - 2014
University of Kansas School of Architecture, Design & Planning - I gained my masters degree from the University of Kansas. It was an intensive program that condensed six years of work into five. The school enabled me to study in other countries and experience the cultures of the world.
2013 - 2014
Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture Paris-Val de Seine - I studied for my final year of school in Paris. The first semester I participated in a regular studio at the school. The second semester I gained credit working as an intern for a Parisian firm.
Work Experience 2014
Jean-Paul Viguier Et Associés Architecture et Urbanisme Paris, France -I interned at Viguier’s office for three months during my final year of study. I was able to participate in two projects. One competition in Monaco. I was expected to produce presentation documents. I participated in the design of the facade and organization of spaces programmatically. The second project was a feasibility study for an office building in Paris. I produced various drawings (plans, elevations, etc.).
2013
HNTB Architecture Kansas City, Missouri - I interned at HNTB for a summer. I worked on two projects, both football stadiums. The first was the pursuit for KU football stadium renovation. I worked on many of the presentation diagrams/renderings/modeling. The second project was the Kentucky Commonwealth stadium renovation. I worked mainly on revit modeling and organizing documents. I was able to design options for a screen that covered the existing ramps.
Summers 2008 - 12
City of Prairie Village Prairie Village, Kansas - I worked as a laborer tending to the parks within the city. I worked with landscaping and yard work.

CHICAGO LYRIC OPERA Fall 2012 Location - Wolf Point, Chicago, Illinois Professors - Wojciech Lesnikowski Steven Grabow -This semester I teamed up with two others to produce a new opera house in Chicago. Our design is both formally interesting and programmatically functional. This was our goal to create a complete and successful building. We wanted to design a building that would be the jewel of Chicago, but also to be an extraordinary performance hall from the perspective of a performer. We considered acoustics, proximity of spaces, and comfort of users. The building would also be open in the off season providing restaurant and convention space services.

WOLF POINT

-The site was a very significant place within the city of Chicago. It is located at the point where the Chicago river splits. There are several views to the east and south, therefore the site is very visible within the city. The idea that this building could be a symbol of Chicago is very real. Our design is both sculptural and functional. The opera would be known by everyone and the spaces within work and function as a well planned opera house.

HANGING -The main design idea was to have a building that would hang from a large arch. The arch would be made of a complex truss system sandwiched in a perforated metal shell. Cable from the truss would hold up the ribs that encase the opera interior. The shell would protect the interior from light, only allowing some light through. Creating a nice light affect during the day as well as at night.

PARIS SKYSCRAPER Fall 2013 Location - Quartier Bruneseau, Paris, France Professor - Paola Sanguinetti Nicholas Gilliland -This project was very short, only a week long. I completed while studying in Paris, France. Our class was to design a tower that would be built within a development already underway in Paris. I thought that the proximity to the Seine River was very important. Throughout history these industrial portions of Paris relied on the river functions. I did the same, I created a pedestrian bridge that would also function as a turbine that would then power the tower.
17
Paris Towers -A tower in the heart of Paris is very rare. Most people of the city believe they shouldn’t be constructed in Paris, that the history should be preserved. So most skyscrapers are built around the edge of the city. This site is the same. Certain locations of Paris are dedicated to new construction/skyscrapers. The largest being the La Defense area. Skyscrapers are a very controversial topic in Paris. I planned to create something that responds to this controversy positively.

Weaving -I designed the building with an exposed structure that weaved around the program of the building. The idea was to continue the structure on the ground and across the Seine. The web would dip into the water, this is where the weaving could generate the electricity to power the building. The form of the structure was derived from the idea of a turbine.

ROTH TRAILHEAD Spring 2012 Location - Lawrence, Kansas Professor - Chad Kraus -This structure was designed and built as an entry into one of the trails at the KU Field Station. It is dedicated to two teachers who together taught in Lawrence and worked very closely with the Field Station. Both teachers are very relevant in Lawrence and have done a great deal for the community. The KU field station works along with the geological study students at KU. The students are able to study the virgin soil in the area.
KU Field Station -The KU Field Station is a reserve north of Lawrence, where KU students have the opportunity to study the Earth. There is a complex of buildings there that are focused on keeping the land. They watch over the area and keep the trails and lands in order. These people acted as our clients, but also helped us with some construction. They had some supplies at there complex we were able to use.

WILLIAM EGGLESTON MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHIC ARTS Spring 2013 Location - Memphis, Tennessee Professor - Denton Nichols -This semester was my comprehensive studio, so I was able to develop this building further than many of the other buildings I have designed. I was able to understand all the functions of the building. I needed to understand the function of a museum (intake, storage, presentation, etc.). I was expected to have an understanding of more technical aspects of the building for example the structure and HVAC. This building is the most developed building I designed in school, by conducting material studies I was able to produce details for the building.
Memphis -The culture of this city is interesting, but seems abandoned at times. The area can be described as “Gritty, indicated by the industrial history of the city that is still evident. Memphis has a relevant history and houses many museums dedicated to civil rights and the music heritage of the area. The culture is rich in Memphis and it is apparent when walking through the old, industrial and slow city.

WILLIAM EGGLESTON -“I had this notion of what I called a democratic way of looking around, that nothing was more or less important.” -“I only ever take one picture of one thing. Literally. Never two. So then that picture is taken and then the next one is waiting somewhere else.” -“I am at war with the obvious.”

PALAIS DE LA PLAGE Spring 2014 Location - Larvotto, Monaco Jean-Paul Viguier Et AssociĂŠs
-During my internship in Viguier’s office I was able to work on a competition for an apartment complex in Monaco. I was involved during the whole process. I was able to help figure out the programmatic spaces and study different facade systems. I drew many of the plans and helped with the sections. For the final boards and booklet I created diagrams and the plan masse.
