How To: Sync Apple Devices With iTunes There are two typical ways to sync iTunes with your iOS devices. Syncing can be done by using a USB device or using surrounding Wi-Fi. However, before you begin trying to sync your iTunes account, make sure you have the latest version of iTunes downloaded. If you want to connect your iDevice with Wi-Fi, then it requires iTunes 10.5 and iOS 5 or later versions. Make sure to remain up to date with your updates because if too many versions go by without updating, it can remove a majority of your music which can lead to the necessity of an iPhone repair expert.

If you are syncing with a USB:   

Open up your iTunes account. Connect your device to the computer using your USB device. Select the device in iTunes under "Devices," which is under the left hand side.

After your device is recognized by your computer, click on "Apply," seen in the lower right corner of the screen.

If you are using Wi-Fi syncing: Just as seen with the USB device, begin by opening up your iTunes account. To initially set up syncing, connect your iOS device to the computer with a USB cable.  

Select the device on the left hand side of the screen. In the summary tab seen on the top of the screen, select "Sync with this device over Wi-Fi."
