WHAT’S MY DEAL?
This is the par t where I’m supposed to tell you all my achievements, and h o w s u p e r a w e s o m e I a m . nope! I’m just a regular person, possibly just like you, who happened to stumble into this dating photography business. My background is in dancing, public relations, and I had a celebrity enter tainment website/production c o mp a ny. For the past 2 years, I’ve been running Swipe, doing 300 shoots between Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. 80% of these referrals, and as you may have noticed I rarely used social media.
Note to self.

WHY I DIDN’T GET MATCHES
1
My shots were out of focus, pulled of f Facebook or somewhere else, and already compressed.
2 3
My face couldn’t be seen clearly in any shots.
I didn’t have any current photos wor th using.
4 5
My shots were over filtered, tr ying to correct what couldn’t be.
I did have a couple of cool selfies, before realising selfies weren’t in anymore.

30
and under?
a
If you are below 30 years of age, you can get away with wearing cool casual clothes. It will have little to no ef fect on your matches.
An under-30 lifestyle is more geared towards. Festivals, clubbing, bars, travel, and maybe even a bit wild. A relationship may or may not be on the other person’s agenda. Find your strengths.
A nicer outfit mixed in to your profile c a n g o d ow n n i c e l y, and grooming should still be taken care of.

BE ORIGINAL There is no one colour fits all, when it comes to neutrals, pastels, or a brighter colour vibe. No one tells girls to restrict their colour choice. Why should men limit themselves? If you’re a big fan of pastels and you rock in the colours, then do it. Pastels and colours will actually make you stand out amongst a flock of neutral people, who look pretty similar on dating apps.
COMPLIMENTARY COLOURS

It is the photographer’s job, to then find complimentar y locations based upon what you choose. There are 2 dif ferent categories to look at based upon being male or female, as well as your skin tone. Once you know these, you can easily work them into your ever yday lifestyle as well.

Hair and make up W h e n i t c o m e s t o h a i r, l o o k a s r a d i c a l a s y o u l i k e , j u s t k e e p i n m i n d y o u r t a r g e t a g e g r o u p . 1.If you have long hair you should change the style when you change location. A change of outfits and location brings added variety into your shots. 2. Keep makeup ver y light. Remember it’s a dating shoot, not a glamour shoot. People want to see the real you, so keep it natural as you would on a day to work.
WHAT SHOULD I INCLUDE IN MY SHOTS Photographers will of ten arrange photo shoots based around looks. 1 look = 1 outfit = 1 to 2 dif ferent location changes = 1 to 2 photos to use for a dating profile We don’t recommend doubling up on any outfit more than once. (Using 2 photos in the same outfit for your profile) The most popular dating profiles all have 4-6 photos, 3 or less photos in your profile, and people will think you are hiding something. A dating profile should compliment you and your lifestyle, not be all por traits (head and shoulders) or shot in a studio, as realism is lost. Not ever y photo needs to be of you looking at the camera. Yo u d o n ’ t h a v e t o p o s t s h o t s i n a n y p a r t i c u l a r o r d e r, o t h e r t h a n y o u r p r o f i l e p h o t o b e i n g f i r s t . The second photo should also show your face c l e a r l y. The following points will help you to maximise your chances of getting swiped right.
a Profile shot There are dif ferent opinions in our feedback, on smiling for profile pictures. If you are someone under 30 and are not smiling, its not going to have much of an ef fect on your matches. Bad boys, rebels, coachella and par ty vibes, (but just you in the shots is still impor tant) all appeal to someone. If you are over 30, smiling is the most popular profile photo across all dating apps, and it will get you the most matches. If you are af ter a relationship and someone is going to date you, you need to look approachable.
WHAT INTERESTS YOU
When you look at someone’s Instagram, what is that makes you follow them? The chances are that their feed is quite interesting and gives a pretty cool insight into t h e i r l i f e s t y l e . T h e r e i s a n i n t r i g u e f a c t o r. Think of the dating app’s you choose, as being like a small-scale Instagram but with the chance for someone to swipe Lef t or Right. It’s an element which the most popular guy and girl profiles get right. If you are someone who stays fit or is active, enjoying tennis, basketball, golf, dance, hiking, or even yoga on a roof top somewhere, it is highly beneficial to include such a photo. A healthy lifestyle is ver y attractive to others. Showing your physique can easily be done by just choosing clothes that fit well. Oversized outfits will go against you, unless you’re early to mid-20’s.
2. If you play a guitar or any sor t of instrument, get your photographer to capture it. Any hobby such as a love of cof fee, travel, sur fing, yoga or at the beach, then show this in photos. 3. Have a think of how you’d like to be portrayed, other than you taste in fashion. Tr a v e l , u r b a n , s t r e e t , f a s h i o n f o c u s e d , c l a s s y , l o u d , a w i c ke d p e r s o n a l i t y, a s u p e r f u n g u y. Are you a mix of two or three? P l a n t h i s w i t h y o u r p h o t o g r a p h e r, a s l o c a t i o n s chosen will of ten reflect and suppor t this. People responding to photos of ten say “Hi” “hey”, what’s up”, unless you provide photos that provide an easy talking point. At “Swipe” we place a big emphasis on capturing who you are.
FULL BODY Do you ever show interest within someone’s profile, and are waiting to see how they look? All of them, head to toe, somewhere, anywhere? ‘Just show me!!’ The benefits of you having full body shots, again comes down to having nothing to hide. It doesn’t leave people guessing, and It may or may not be a game changer for some. It is an oppor tunity to show you are happy with your shape, or that you have a killer fashion sense. “I look great in a suit, so take me out”, or “this is me in front of a cool location having a great time”.
SOCIAL SCENE AND PETS O h ! Yo u t h o u g h t I f o r g o t : ) p e o p l e l o v e p e t s . I f y o u h a v e o n e i n y o u r s h o t s , y o u are going to get more matches than not. Ideally you want to be with your pet, showing it af fection, rather than having them as a stand-alone shot. The ef fect isn’t the same. The same relates to social, whether it be with your family or friends. This just s h ow s “ h ey, c o m e h a n g o u t w i t h u s ” a n d “ I h ave a s o c i a l l i fe ” .
POST SHOOT At Swipe we always narrow down your photos as to what will bring you the best matches, on specific dating apps. Choose a photographer who will give you this advice and work with you af ter if needed.
