Breakfast in France.

• For breakfast, in France we usually eat croissants, pain au chocolat, and bread with Nutella (or jam or honey) and cereals (like kellogg’s) . People drink coffee, hot chocolate, or tea, maybe milk. They drink orange or apple juice too. It is the most important meal.

Lunch in France.

• For lunch, in France, people eat starchy food (like rice, pasta or mash potatoes) with vegetables (like carrots, cabbage, etc… ) and meat, eggs or fish. • But there are many people who eat at their jobs so they have to buy sandwiches or at the canteen.

Dinner in France. • For dinner, we eat something very light like soup , or as the lunch, rice, pastas etc… • French people like cheese very much, like camembert, bleu, roquefort… • They also eat a dessert like yogurts, pastries or cake.

In France we have breakfast generally from 8 to 10 am, except in the case of we have to go before this schedules (to school or to work for example) at maybe 6 or 7 am. For the morning, we usually eat sweet and light food. We can eat some biscuits like cookies or cake ; cereals with milk (or chocolate milk) ; yoghurts ; bread with butter / jam / Nutella or fruits. We also drink cold or hot milk, fruit juices, coffee, hot chocolate, tea or just water if we want. .

Here, we usually eat lunch at 12. A French tradition is to eat escargot (cooked snails) for entree. But people do this more often in restaurant than at home.

We eat a lot of “croque monsieur, a French toast, with cheese and ham inside. You can add what sauce you like, like ketchup or mayo. But also ingredients you like, for example mushrooms, olives ect.

For the main course we can do “gigot” which is a cooked meat, you can choose the meat you like the most. It takes a really long time to prepare it because the goal is to cook the meat for 4 to 8 hours, as you prefer, with herbs you like the most. Then you can add some veggies to the meat.

Before desert, we have the habit of eating a plate of French cheese (that smells too much) like Roquefort, camembert, chèvre… with wine.

In France, we almost all take our diner around 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM. The French are punctual when we talk about eating. Our diner is long because we have a complete menu : The main-course with some meat and vegetables. Then sometimes, after the main-course, we eat a piece of cheese. Practicly the same as in the lunch. Finally, the desert: it can be a stewed fruit, a yoghurt or a slice of cake for example, tarte aux fraises.
