Total visitors to all islands were just over nine million since some visited more than one island. Half came to Oahu, partially due to convenience and cost of air travel, two million others went to neighboring islands according to these stats. Direct flights into those islands benefit the other islands as they expand into these markets and costs drop, however the costs are increasing according to Mike McCartney, CEO of Hawaii Tourism Authority.
