FROM THE PUBLISHER THE SPRING OF ‘15

It turns out that the spring of ’15 was a very important time in the development and expansion of an industry that was around for many years, but now was more affordable than ever. The new product was not really new at all, just a more refined version of the same product people had been using for many years. It took one man’s vision to change the landscape of that industry forever. This man’s first production came out in ’08 and finally the public has an affordable option to what they had seen was mostly scarce and expensive until that time. It is much the same with real estate values in Hawaii; many areas are more affordable than many people realize. Take for example on the Big Island of Hawaii, there is a beautiful acre-sized lot with 200 feet of oceanfront for UNDER $300,000! On the lake where I live that lot would be over $2 million dollars! (See page 49 for more information about this property). More than ever before the value in Hawaii amazes me. There truly are some very good deals to be had; it just takes a bit of looking and research. Speaking of research, my own shows that our new concept of increased editorial and feature stories about our listings and advertisers is a ‘dramatic improvement’ over the concept of 100% ads on all pages. It seems people would rather READ about the ‘home of their dreams’ than see countless pages of ads and an endless stream of Realtors on every page. We hope you like the new format. It seems print magazines have a new revival according to The Magazine Media 360° Brand Audience Report which reports cross-platform

audiences (print and digital, websites and video) GREW by 12.6% from February 2014 to this February. So much for digital replacing print! That is as likely to happen as plastic overtaking fine china at weddings. The company showing the largest growth of the 145 major titles reporting was none other than Conde Nast, which shows that worldwide travel is still the preferred past time for those with the means to do so. Back to the invention in the spring of ’15, speaking of a company’s rapid growth. No, I am NOT referring to the spring of 2015 but rather 100 years ago, during the spring of 1915. Henry Ford had just introduced his famous Model T, aimed at the middle class buyer. During a 19-year span from 1908 to 1927 Ford Motor Company sold a staggering 15 million vehicles! The world would never be the same and that model was voted the ‘most influential car of the 20th Century’ in 1999 due to his innovation. I know we will never distribute that many copies of our magazine and may not win any awards or set any records, but as long as we can help you, our reader, find that home of your dreams through our publication I will be happy.
