From the Publisher Hawaiian Visitors and CRS Agents For this issue we are introducing nearly 50 CRS agents on all islands, which represent a fraction of all Realtors in Hawaii. Out of nearly 7,500 Realtors on all islands in Hawaii only 712 have earned the CRS designation and many of those are now featured in our magazine. Each island will have a listing of those CRS agents in that section of this issue. When you choose to work with a CRS agent, you are dealing with the ‘cream of the crop’ of all Realtors in the state. We also got many requests to re-run a previous editorial about tourism in Hawaii, so here is that information again. Virtually all purchasers of property in Hawaii visit one or more of the islands first before they buy a home or condo. Our goal is to provide a cross-section of property available for purchase on ALL islands, not just one island of Hawaii. Here is the breakdown of visitors in 2011, according to Hawaii Tourism Authority (www.hawaiitourismauthority.org)
Total number of air visitors by island visited and the percentage of visitors to that island: Oahu (49%) 4,401,624 Maui (25%) 2,298,741 (including Moloka’I and Lana’i) Kauai (11%) 1,011,500 Big Island (15%) 1,318,310 Total visitors to all islands were just over nine million since some visited more than one island. Half came to Oahu, partially due to convenience and cost of air travel, two million others went to neighboring islands according to these stats. Direct flights into those islands benefit the other islands as they expand into these markets and costs drop, however the costs are increasing according to Mike McCartney, CEO of Hawaii Tourism Authority. I personally feel this will benefit those that BUY vacation property and if possible, place them into a rental pool to recoup some of their investment.
