raveling and living out of a bag is what best describes the crew at MauiSails this month. It was all hands on, with everyone on the Team doing their part to deliver the results and products.
Around The World of Kevin.
K
evin has been around the world and back again with a travel program looking like this: Maui to France to Maui to Tahiti to Maui to Italy to Spain to California to Portugal to Gran Canaria to Lanzarote. That's just enough to keep him busy. Tahiti was an unreal experience with tropical beaches and great windsurfing conditions that made for an enjoyable time.

In Spain there was time to relax a bit, but after six days of sitting around, it got a little tiring. California was an exciting time with four days of action packed sailing. It was nice to see KP back on the California coast enjoying his home spot. Portugal had some good sailing action. Long days were spent on the beach with the competition finishing around 9:30 at night, then you had pack up, eat dinner, and do it all over again the next day.
Time in Italy was spent doing promotional work at the Lake Garda Surfestival.
Lanzarote was a great event for Kevin in which he placed second. It came down to the last race and Kevin lost out on one of his spocks and that was all she wrote. In the end Kevin managed to finish in second for the event and ended the Super X season in second overall. Congratulations to Kevin from Maui Sails on his second place in the world.

Rough Month for Taty.
T
aty has had a bit of a rough month, getting ten stitches in his jaw after hitting his knee doing a double forward loop. This didn't help his freestyle performance in Pozo, and kept him from performing to his normal level. Taty was also in Bonaire for a no wind event that never happened in his home spot.
During the Lanzarote Super X and freestyle PWA event I was using two types of Maui sails, the Switch and the Global. In The Super X event I was using the Switch 5.6 and 6.4. It was my first time ever doing the SuperX discipline so two days before the event I rigged my 6.4 and 5.6 switch and took it out for a test ride. On that day I felt this was the sail that will take me to the top and give me some good runs on the Super X course. The switch is super fast easy to handle for doing spocks, loops, duck jibes and hi speed jibes, it's got a light feeling and my sail of choice for this discipline. With the Switch I had a couple of solid runs on the SuperX course and not even the best top guys in Super X could keep up with me in speed.

F
reestyle. You have heard all the stories on the PWA website during the event : On the first and second days of the freestyle I won the heats by far using my Global 5.0 and the flare 104 litre. This equipment was the best combination I have had for the conditions in Lanzarote. The Global is a great sail for doing light wind to high wind freestyle moves. With a five battens design, it's light weight feel the sail that has all freestyle moves build into it. I love the full power and easy planning so what more do you need. This sail has taken my freestyle skill to a whole new level and projected me to 2nd overall in Lanzarote. I am so happy with my global, it has a magic feeling that's better than any sail I've ever used.

Dorota is still nursing her injury.
T
his past month Dorota has been working on her back and abdominal muscles, getting treatments on her lower back and trying to not think when can she get back on the water again. “Doctors tell me all kinds of things. Most of all they try to stop me from competing this Summer. But as the weeks and my rehabilitaion goes by, I will see how I feel and if I can give it a go. I have a new friend, who is with me everywhere. Very attached, and cozy. All my girlfriends are jealous‌â€? Dorota had experienced a bulging disc during May's training camp in Poland. Unfortunately it was mainly caused by the present condition of her lower back, which after all examinations, mri, etc., turned out to be in a quite dramatic state. But Dorota is determined to find the way to get it in better shape and be back on the race course in August. Dorota landed her first cover shot in this month's Polish Windsurfing magazine, as well as a full feature in the US Windsurfing Mag. She was also approached by a major shampoo brand to become their new face in their next campaign. That will bring some great exposure through Poland.

Sara-Quita Offringa. A Young Talent from Aruba.
M
auiSails newest team rider from Aruba. Introducing the 14 year old sensation Sara-Quita Offringa. This was one of my first time in Canaries competing in the PWA freestyle World Cup event, and my first on MauiSails. I always have used Barry's designs and love the feeling of his sails. Taty and Kevin loaned me some sails before the event in Lanzarote to try and I loved them. Now I'm on the MauiSails team. At age 14 I'm really happy to be sponsored by such a prestige brand like MauiSails and already I feel the Team support which these guys are famous for.
The best thing about this month was my third place in Freestyle at the PWA World Cup in Lanzarote. I started off using the 4.7 legend in the early heats and did really well beating some of the best girls in the World. The second round the wind picked up so I moved down the legend 4.2, which I equally as good as the 4.7. I placed third overall in the freestyle, which I'm really excited about. I have to make new goals now for 2006, because so far all my dreams have come true for 2005. Thanks again to MauiSails for their support and especially to Taty who believed in me to get me on MauiSails.

Phil is also Traveling.
S
lalom season was well and truly upon us. Maui was abuzz with the new MauiSails TR-1 race sails. Nothing but good reports and stocks selling out in most sizes. Unfortunately for Phil it could only be enjoyed for a week. Phil McGain took to the challenge this June and went on a mission with Barry to put six lines of sails into production in 3 weeks. Designs were sent and samples built well ahead of time. All the sails were coming out better than we had ever seen and small details were easy to implement. Just before Phil's three day trip to China, he got sick and was bed ridden for a few days, but he knew he had to bounce back quick and was able to spend three days in China working on carbon booms, accessories and aluminum booms. He was back on Maui to get ready for the Maui Slalom series and US Nationals in the Gorge at the end of July.
Sails mission completed.
W
e would like to present you a full sails range of Maui Sails. It's a results of Phil and Barry mission taken in June. Now you can see the finale color ways of each model. For more info about the sails please go to www.mauisails.com

How is Barry doing?
B
arry has had a whiz bang month. He's settled in his new home and the broadband is working. Phil has convinced him to finally get a new computer and get rid of those ten year old things he has been hauling around. The guy hates to spend without good reason, but this has gone far enough. His favorite brick, the Toshiba Tecra 150C did the job since 1995. The motherboard just went south.
Maui, Hawaiian Islands
He's been having more Hula Girl adventures too. The second motor is installed and running well, so now the boat can come into the loading dock to pick up gear. As soon as the new lifelines are up we are going to take a cruise with the windsurfing equipment on board. A couple days ago they were out in the Kaiwi channel between Maui and Molokai, blowing about 25 knots, and Hula Girl was flying. It's going to be a good summer.
Then he had this well used Acer travelmate that Phil had already hauled around for four years. The hinges on the screen are broken and the thing is dastardly undependable. It almost went down the stairs a couple of times in Sri Lanka. If they hadn't needed the data that was in it so bad, they would have heaved it. And speaking of data, this last visit to the loft in Sri Lanka was such a pleasure. As we get into their system we are finding that they are able to do replication to a level of accuracy that is inspiring. No need to compensate for loose production methods any more. There will be more to come about this, but the main jist of the story is that the wave and freeride sails look better than ever, and we're sure there'll be many compliments. Barry got to the beach quite a lot in the weeks before going to Sri Lanka. It's always hard to get everything together for that, and we were trying to keep a handle on the new TR-1s that were getting into use around here. He's even been seen sailing a few times. That can't be bad for anything.
