ONE LAST ONE… I wanted to start by saying goodbye. Yes, after nearly 5 years, I am leaving MauiSails to ride for North. It’s been an incredible journey for me and can’t believe how much I have grown as a windsurfer, a competitor, and even beyond while with Mauisails. I loved being part of this team and want to say a huge thanks to Mauisails and everyone who supports the brand! So this will be my last newsletter.
NOW, REFLECTING ON NOVEMBER…
The Aloha classic was just wrapping up at the beginning of the month. We had the award ceremony, and then things started calming down and getting back to normal. We were finally able to find parking at Ho’okipa! And it was time for me to start thinking of playing less, and working more… The good windsurfing days were really scarce though in November. I had a few really fun days on my 3.8 and 4.2, and several days on my surfboard. November has just come and gone and can’t believe how much fun it’s been to be able to stay here on Maui! Not really missing cold weather yet! :) Wishing you all a good holiday season! Cheers! And keep having fun on the water! Ingrid Larouche

yoyo! What’s up my friends, fans & Readers??.
First of all I would like to say Congratulations to Camille for all his results on The AWT and the PWA wave in Maui. I have been spending the whole time on the laptop looking for results and watching the live stream. Those Mutant sails sure do look great on the water.

Back to myself, I have been going back to the gym and getting my body & mind in shape, to get that extra energy. Wake up at 5am, do a 20 minute run along the coast, then hit the gym for one hour work on the lower back, abs, and chest and much more. Seems pretty tiring in the first few days but now I am feeling each day better, so that’s progress. There’s much more to be worked on but this all will happen in the months to come and I will get way fitter before the first PWA event in Margarita.
Been sailig as much as possible on my freestyle gears, love the new Loco Pro sails and the new Flare 101. The wind has been on/off on Bonaire but had some really good days on my Loco 4.8, at times even overpowered. Before the end of the month I had a great day wave sailing on the southside of Bonaire all by myself, waveriding my LocoPro on those nice waves that only happen a few times a year. Stay updated on my Facebook athlete page
www.facebook.com/TatyNB9 Overall a very busy month and just putting all my energy on windsurfing and Fitness. I have a plan and am motivated for next season. Taty Frans NB-9 :)

CONTEST TIME!
In the end of October we had finished the AWT event in Maui, wich I got 3°, and comfirmed my second year in a row AWT championship. The hardest was the PWA and i knew it, so I try to be really focused, but i think i got so much focus that i had too much pressure.... so I pass the two first heat in the single elimination and I felt pretty good.. I didn’t started the 3° heat really good, so I was not in a good mind setting, so I lost this one. I knew I still had a chance in the double elimination but I was just so disappointed because the single elimination was really important for me.. Anyway, I wanted to come back stronger in the double and we run it couple day after, so I had time to be in a good mind setting again. and it was for my first heat, because I won it and this should of given me the confidence... So the second heat I was fighting for the 7th place and I just got unlucky because all the other guys were doing only airs and goiter, and was doing my wave ride as usual. But I knew I just needed ONE wave with a trick and I could make it. But unfortunately I didn’t found this one :( so I end up at the 13 place. i’m so not happy with myself for the PWA result, but that will motivate me to come back stronger and to do better in the next one... and i’m still very happy with my AWT result in front..

BURNING THE MIDNIGHT OIL AT THE MAUISAILS LOFT Been burning the midnight oil at the MauiSails loft the last couple months, fine tuning final details for the TR-X that went into production last month and the Free-race/freeride sails in production this month. The work proved worthwhile because we did make some noticeable performance advances with our new 2014 “Scream” and “Titan GS-X” sail lines getting more than just a “trickle-down” from the cutting edge TR-X development. We are excited about the all new 2014 “Scream” high-performance RAF slalom/ freeride design that replaces the Pursuit. The Scream borrows lower aspect ratio and recessed clew outline geometry from the TR-X for dramatically improved range across the board. Power is centered and locked lower in the sail body, while the leech provides a perfectly progressive twist pattern. The Scream is powerful and blazing fast, putting fear into the hearts of race sails that cross its path. Ideally suited for those who want maximum blasting ability, but prefer the lighter weight and handling of a 6-batten RAF design. The new 2014 Titan GS-X utilizes the same, custom, lightweight metallic scrim construction that has been incorporated into the TR-X. Like the TR-X, the scrim is used in the upper body and leech areas to optimize its properties of light weight and smooth twist response. Monofilm is used in the lower “profile section” for maximum stability and crisp feel. The Scrim and Monofilm interface through a loadpath oriented seam for optimum tension balance. The shaping of the Titan-GS-X has been improved, with more profile seam shaping in the lower sail body. This helps with stability and power. Twist profiles were also fine tuned to be as progressive as possible. With MauiSails 2014 Race and Freeride sail lines soon to be appearing on the water world wide, there are sure to be many stoked windsurfers, sailing very fast. Aloha, Artur Szpunar

NOVEMBER WAS KIND OF A TU This November was the month of the third arm for me. Samantha cannot use her right arm for ANYTHING at all until mid-January. Nothing. Not even lifting an empty glass. The doc is afraid of breaking the eight little pieces apart again (regardless of the screws and plates) and wants to make sure there has been complete knitting of the breaks. She is doing wonderful things with her left hand now though, learning a new way. And I am doing everything she can’t, so this is definitely occupying some time. No driving, no dressing, no cutting food, so far seven weeks. I did find thirty hours or so to finally finish the Cornelia’s spray dodger. The old blue thing with the seams on the outside is gone, and a waterproof, clear vision one replaces it. The design works perfect now, and I am on the way to finishing the deck rebuild. One more section and we will be fuily Raptor’d on the main decks. I have been managing to keep up with the work that Art and Phil have been doing on the new race and Freeride sails and I can’t help but think that these are the manifesting the in the simple, clean look that is the MauiSails style. The new material we developed with Dimension Sailcloth looks sexy and is certainly perfectly functional and right for the job. The smoothness of the shaping and sleeve fit is a testament to he great job that Art does every day in balancing the tensions inside the sail body so the wrinkles are not present, even in the loaded form. This is a demanding task as outlines change and curves are adjusted accordingly. He must make many judgments based only on his experience and the ’feeling’ he has about the total function and look. We are so very lucky to be working with him. And the year end results for the fine group of sailors we have been working with is a special testament to the value of using sails that really perform, not just have some marketing angle. To have all divisions of the AWT tour coming up winners consistently over the season in all conditions means to me that there is something good helping them to be super competitive. They all are especially talented and dedicated to what they do, and it has been a pleasure to be able to supply them with a Mutant design that works perfect for them all over an entire season. Congrats to them all and more. And if you haven’t tried a Mutant for yourself, it’s about time you found out what we are talking about.

HOOKIPA WAS FLAT After a non-stop month of action during October, the weather changed gears for November. Last November the swells and wind kept rolling through after the AWT contest, this time around it was a little different. For three days in a row I saw more people jump into the water at Hookipa with snorkel masks and fins then with surfboards or even massive SUPs, it was that flat and glassy. Disappointed at first, it gave me the opportunity to try different things, and with my girlfriend’s convincing, I hopped on a SUP race board for the first time and had a blast touring along the north shore. We would launch from Hookipa and head up towards Jaws, and check out all the little bays in between. Being a windsurfer, most of the time when you’re on the water you are used to seeing everything in a chaotic state, whitecaps barreling downwind and massive swells rolling in. It was quite the contrast instead to paddle around these spots in dead calm water, able to see straight down to the ocean floor, absolutely majestic! On the few days when we did get some breeze, as most people would debate on if it was worth going out or not, I’d always smile and grab my 5.1 Mutant. That sail has become my go-to in almost any conditions, especially when things are looking marginal at best. So lightweight, it schlogs like you wouldn’t believe, and once on the wave, whips around with the feeling of a 4.5. With the slightest breeze and less downhaul/outhaul, you can get up and go in less wind than you’d imagine, and still maintain awesome control in your hands when you’re on the wave. December has hit and the forecast has started to turn back around, so stay tuned to the MauiSails facebook page for updates through the month as we hope to have stellar conditions return to the north shore!
