The wind is caused because of the sun. the sun warms the earth`s surface, therefore it also warms the atmosphere. Some parts of the earth receive direct rays but some other parts receive indirect rays from the sun. The parts that receive direct rays are always warm but the parts that receive indirect are colder. Warm air weights less than cold air therefore, air rises so then cold air moves and replaces the rising warm air. This movement of air causes the wind blow.
Th e sun also causes the ocean currents. The sun can cause ocean current in two ways. First because t it heats up the atmosphere and creates winds and moves the sea surface through friction. And second because the sun changes the density of the ocean surface water so it changes the temperature. When water is cold or saltier (because of evaporation), it becomes thicker; therefore this can cause the water set up density currents.
The earth`s orbit has a shape of an ellipse. When summer is happening in the northern hemisphere, winter is happening at the south, at the same time. The position of the sun is maximized during the Northern Hemisphere summer in late June; this is called the summer solstice. At this point, the sun reaches its highest point on the northern hemisphere. At the end of December, the winter solstice is happening. The position between the earth and the sun is bigger. Then a little bit of sunlight reaches the northern hemisphere. The seasons are the opposite in the southern hemisphere. Storms are more likely to happen in winter than in summer.
In the water cycle, the sun gives thermal energy to the earth`s surface. The sun heats water causing evaporation in to the atmosphere then it becomes water vapor. The water vapor cools and condenses and then it falls back to the earth in the form of rain, snow etc.
Photosynthesis is the main process in the life of a plant. The sun is very important so this process can be done. Plants have chloroplasts. These chloroplasts receive sunlight and use carbon dioxide and water to create oxygen, sugars and some hormones. A plant that does not receive sunlight can have a weak plant growth and the plant can even die.
