Board Botschaft: Your Opportunity to Sample the Porsche Parade by Carey Spreen, Region VP You may have noticed that I write a lot about the Porsche Parade, PCA’s annual week-long convention that celebrates all things Porsche and PCA. Those of you who have not attended a Parade may be wondering what the big deal is, while those of you who have participated in one already know. So at the risk of revisiting this subject, I’m going to try to convince you to at least consider going to the Porsche Parade this year, in part because it’s only 850 miles away from the DFW area in 2021. The Parade is a week-long (Sunday through Saturday) gathering that happens in a different part of North America each year, in a three-year west-central-east rotation. French Lick, Indiana, which is where this year’s edition will be held, is considered “central,” and it will be the closest Parade until the 2024 event (the location of which has not yet been announced); the 2022 (east) location will be Pocono Manor, PA, and the 2023 (west) location is set for Palm Springs, CA, both of which are multi-day drives each way. Each Parade consists of competitive events, social events, tours, banquets, seminars, and kid-oriented stuff all week long, so it’s definitely a family affair (and petfriendly to boot). Please don’t let the word “competitive” make you uneasy; you don’t have to sign up for anything you don’t want to do. A lot of folks go for the tours or the banquets or the social events or just because they’ve never been to that part of the country before. Plus, you don’t have to stay all week if your schedule doesn’t allow it. Also, don’t worry about not knowing anyone there – a good-sized contingent of Mavericks attend each year, and

you to make a room reservation at one of the headquarters hotels. Phase 2, which opens on April 7, is when you get into the details of who is coming with you, and which events (if any) you want to participate in. You also do not have to stay at the HQ hotels, although it’s hard to beat the convenience; there are several affordable hotel chains in the area if you don’t mind driving a short

we’re happy to show you the ropes and help you figure out what’s happening. Especially this year, since the 2015 Parade was also in French Lick, and many of us attended that time as well. There will likely be a caravan or two heading up there from DFW, so you can travel in the company of other Mavericks if you like. By the time you read this, Phase 1 of registration has already taken place, opening on Feb 10, although it’s not too late to register, as Registration remains open until June 13. distance to get to the events, many of which are held at (or at least begin at) one of the HQ hotels. The entry fee is $230, which includes both an entrant and co-entrant. Competitive events, tours, and banquets are all à la carte fees (typically $20 to $50 per person for events, and about $70 for most banquets). I hope that I have at least piqued your interest in the premiere annual PCA event. If so, you can check out the details by visiting https://www.porscheparade.org/. We hope to see you there!

Michael Durovick Michael has been with the PCA close to four years now. If you don’t know who he is, I’m pretty sure you are familiar with his work. Over those four years Michael has put his photography talents to work helping out at many of our car shows and special events. If you attended our Mavs & Mochas event a few years back at Highland Park Village, you may have had a photo taken of you in your Porsche in front of the historic Village Theater. Another time may have been at Lakeside Market in Plano as part of a People’s Choice Car Show. These were two events where Michael stayed put in one spot for hours, capturing the perfect angle of the many Porsches that arrived. Michael was the one behind the lens of our two feature articles here in Slipstream spotlighting the Women of PCA. The most recent one was our Oct. 2020 feature bringing awareness to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Michael put in many hours planning out just how to position all of the Ladies and their Porsches to fit in single shot. Michael had also picked a perfect background so each woman could have an individual shot with her car. Go back and take a look if you missed it. It was one of the many cover photos that Michael has contributed to Slipstream over the years. It’s thanks to Michael’s passion and dedication that our club stays Fueled By Volunteers. Please join me in congratulating Michael as our Maverick of the Month. This is the only photo I was able to find. I guess it’s the old saying of being behind the lens, not in front.

We are committed and passionate about the care of your Porsche and use only Genuine Classic Parts. Whether you own a classic, new or preowned vehicle, Porsche Grapevine, An Avondale Dealership looks forward to providing you an Elevated Experience along your ownership journey.

February Mavs & Mochas: Polar Vortex Cometh by Bill Kruder, Region President

photos provided by Chris Low, Jimmy Gallegos, Jim Mango and Landon Stogner

“Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail shall keep the postman from his appointed rounds.” This is the postman’s oath, and one might say our Maverick motto, when it comes to Mavs & Mochas. Some 25 cars and nearly 40 hearty members braved the 20-degree temperatures Saturday morning, all for the sake of having coffee with friends at the Frisco Fresh Market on Main just east of DNT. Let’s talk about the cars that showed up. We had one air-cooled, our ‘96 993, a 2020 Cayenne Coupe, a Cayenne GTS, three Macans, a 928, and water-cooled 911s filled out the rest. Credit goes to Matt Wilson and Ajai Cadambi, who get the award for the furthest drive this morning at 65 miles, and Julia and Greg Cleath for the shortest: three blocks! And yes, this was our Q1 North Texas Food Bank food drive headed up by Jimmy Gallegos collecting in excess of 264 pounds of food. So if you missed this one, we look forward to seeing you March 13 at Turbo Coffee in the Colony. Remember the postman’s oath . . . we will be there! 8 March

Do It Yourself: X73 Suspension Install by Matt Wilson, Coffee Meets Co-chair I recently got the urge to tackle another project on one of my P-cars..it had been several months since I dropped the engine out of my 997 turbo to pin the coolant pipes, but that is an article for another day.

full X73 kit which includes front and rear struts and swaybars, plus mounting hardware.

Today I decided to install the Porsche sport suspension (X73 option) on my 981 Cayman S. There are lots of suspension options available for these cars, but I was really wanting to use Porsche parts and it effectively turns the car into an X73optioned car from the factory, with a slightly lower ride height (20mm) and slightly stiffer shocks. I’d like to take this car to the track soon so I figured this was a great complement to that plan. I purchased the kit (P/N 981044-400-05 for a PDK car) from my friendly Porsche parts guy at my dealer who matched the cheapest online price I could find. Less than $1,600 all in; not bad in the land of genuine Porsche parts, and it came with all of the one-time-use nuts and bolts needed for the install. I have a BendPak scissor lift in the garage, so it certainly makes projects like this easier. I parked the car on the lift and raised it just high enough so as to have easy access while sitting on a stool. The job is fairly straightforward, and involves swapping out the front and rear struts, and the front and rear swaybars. There are really no “special” tools needed that most DIY folks wouldn’t find in their toolboxes, EXCEPT for the bolts on the rear axle; those were M9 triple square bits 12 March

photos by Matt Wilson which I had to order up from my favorite online tool vendor. Otherwise it’s mostly short and deep metric sockets (10mm,16mm,18mm,19mm,21mm), T55 torx, 3/8” and ½” ratchets, plus various extensions including some swivels. I did use an impact wrench for a lot of the larger nuts (>16mm) but is not really necessary. Finally, you will need a good set of torque wrenches (I have both 3/8” and ½”) for when you go to put things back together. For the fronts, after removing the wheels, I removed the brake caliper and disconnected the speed sensor and brake wear connectors and hung the caliper out of the way. After that, it’s just a process of undoing the various bolts for the tie rod, diagonal arm, lower control arm (LCA) from the front subframe, swaybar drop link, and front strut to the wheel carrier. Once all of this is removed you can remove the whole assembly (wheel carrier/rotor/lower control arm) and set it aside in a safe place. Now you need to open the frunk and remove the three 13mm nuts the hold the strut in place and slowly remove the strut/spring assembly from the car. The process is repeated for the other sidde to have both full struts/wheel assemblies removed. Now it’s time to swap the sway bar, which requires removing a bunch of nuts/bolts to lower the front subframe to allow the swaybar to come out toward the front of the

After removal of the front strut and wheel carrier/brake assembly. Note the caliper is hanging out of the way and the swaybar has not been removed yet.

car. You first have to remove the front under tray panel, and then loosen the 4 subframe nuts/bolts toward the rear, followed by the 6 in the front along with removing the 2 power steering rack bolts. Once all this is all loosened you can slowly lower the subframe to allow the swaybar to slip out toward the front of the car. Next month we’ll cover putting the front back together and tackling the rear. 13

Autocross Series: 2021 Autocross Classifications by Mark Schnoerr, Region Autocross Chair

photos by Robert Kirby of Lightspeed Images

Each year, we review, and update if needed, the MAVPCA autocross classes. Since many of our participants also run some of the other 40 autocross events in North Texas, we try to keep our preparation and groupings consistent with the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) groupings and Performance Index (PAX), the handicapping system that is updated annually based on results from all over the country. This makes it possible to compare results across all classes. For 2021, we still have our own Porsche Classes, built into the SCCA model used by our autocross partner, Equipe Rapide Sports Car Club (https:// Owen Coulman leaning into a corner in his GT3 autocross.com). This year there are a few changes to be more inclusive and encourage have a minimum of a 200 treadwear rating street tire participation by our members. The first seven classes restriction, and must be street legal.

PV is the Vintage Porsche class for all street-legal 356 and 912 Porsches. We know they are out there, and some come to watch or ride along at these events. We would love to see you exercising your cars with us.

P1 has been changed to make a place for all the front-engine transaxle cars to come back to autocross. We know there are a lot of 924, 944, 968, and 928 owners out there, so we wanted to make a place for you to play with us.

P4 is for 2010-2021 911 Turbo, 2015-2021 Boxster Spyder and GTS, 2015-2021 Cayman GT4 and GTS, 2013-2021 991/992 S and GTS. These are very capable autocross cars.

PH is the Heritage Classic Street class, parallel to the SCCA HCS class. All street legal 914 and all 911 to 1973 and 2.4 liters, both with up to 7-inch wide wheels fit here. We get good participation in this group regularly.

P2 is for the 1974-1994 911, 1995-2012 non-S 911, 20052009 911 Turbo, 1997-2004 986 Boxster/Boxster S, 2005-2021 987/981/718 non-S/GTS Boxster and Cayman. It’s a competitive power vs handling group.

P0 is unchanged and is for all our four-door models: Macan, Cayenne, Panamera, and Taycan. We have had good participation from the Macan and Cayenne drivers and would like to see some of the big sedans this year.

P3 is for the 2005-2021 Boxster S and Cayman S, 2011-2012 Boxster Spyder and Cayman R, 2004-2012 GT3, 2012-2021 991/992 (not including S or GTS), and 2005-2012 911 S, GTS, and 911 Speedster. These guys are fun to watch!

P5 is for highly modified or nototherwise-classified (NOC) street legal cars, and tire treadwear ratings are not restricted. This picks up the 2013-2021 911 Speedster, 911 R, GT3, GT3 RS, GT2, GT2 RS, Carrera GT, 918 Spyder, etc. We don’t see them often but wanted to be sure they had a place to play with us.

Maverick 914’s ready for war at the last autocross for 2020

In the January issue, one of Scott Scheetz photographs was incorrectly attributed to another photographer. Scott has been a great friend to Slipstream and we apologize to him for the error.

P6 is for all race cars or non-street legal Porsches. We get some club race cars and Spec Boxster race cars that fit here.

Maverick Marktpreis is proudly sponsored by:

Maverick Marktpreis: 928 by Peter Wen, Region Merchandise Chair “WANTED: Porsche 928 for attempted murder of 911.” What a headline that would have been? Of course that’s not exactly how it happened. Back in the 70s, Porsche was headed in a different direction. They needed a modern car to replace the aging 911 and to keep up with emission regulations. They wanted a new flagship vehicle with the best possible combination of a sports coupé and a luxury sedan. The result was the 928, a grand tourer with a water-cooled V8 engine, Porsche’s first production V8 powered model and the

only coupé powered by a front-mounted V8 engine. The 928 was loaded with technological advances and luxurious features. It won the coveted 1978 European Car of the Year award upon introduction. It was priced far above the 911 SC ($110k vs $75k in today’s dollars). Just 57,998 928’s were built during the model’s 19-year production run (25k of which came to the US). Excellence magazine considered the S4 to be “Best Value”. Only about 3,000 GTS were produced, with just 482 examples coming to the U.S. Excellence’s Porsche Buyer’s Guide offered these price ranges for the 928: ’87-’89 S4 $12k-$24k ’90-’92 S4 $14k-$26k ’78-’82 $8k-$13k ’90-’92 GT $16k-$28k ’83-’84 S $9k-$15k ’93-’95 GTS $40k-$70k ’85-’86 S $10k-$18k

Coffee, Cars & Conversation by Bill Kruder, Region President So those of you who have been went to work for Peterbilt Motors reading these interviews the past Company in Newark, CA, which four years know how this goes. is adjacent to Fremont, located on For those of you who are new: I the San Francisco/Oakland East enjoy meeting people. Each month Bay. Then in 1993 they moved the I write up my next interview and headquarters to Denton and that’s sometimes it’s someone I met where we stayed; same house even. yesterday, or like this one, over three years ago. We met at an All Member Party in 2017, of course admiring the half dozen 356s that had participated, including the soon-to-be-ours ‘64 C (Bob Hagestad’s car). Well, I met him there with his own beautiful ‘64 C, and we struck up a conversation about the cars. Fast forward about a year later: we buy the Hagestad and join the Tub Club, and who is President but the guy with the very cool white ‘64 356 C! As the months went by we would talk at Mayo’s or the occasional Mavs & Mochas. Finally, I said “we would like you to attend our Maverick board meetings so that we keep our two clubs in sync.” So here is the next in my series of “conversations” I would like to share George and grandson Luke taking a trip on the BMW with you . . . . George Maffey, Member since 1983 1964 356 C, 1997 Boxster, and 2014 Cayman S Bill Kruder: So you know the drill I’m sure. We start with “where are you from?” George Maffey: Well, I was born in Philly, grew up in Baltimore, then we made many stops including Detroit, North Carolina, Southern California, and Northern California, landing in Denton in 1993. BK: Whoa, that’s a lot of places! How did you end up in Denton? GM: When I graduated college I 20 March

BK: So where did you go to school? GM: I was living in SoCal and when it came time to pick a college. I wanted a very small school so I enrolled at Santa Clara University, about 5-7 minutes from San Jose International Airport. I graduated in 1980 with a mechanical engineering degree and ended up with the only job I ever had, retiring almost 38 years later. BK: How did you and Angie meet? GM: We both worked at Peterbilt, in those days everyone worked in one giant office space; it was like an ocean of desks. I would see her

photos provided by George Maffey from time to time, and think I even helped her with car trouble a time or two. Then one day a friend of Angie’s came over to my desk and with a very stern look on her face said “Just when are you going to ask that girl out?” Heck, it was kind of threatening- like (laughing). So, that was 1982. We dated for about two years, then married in 1984. BK: And I understand you have three kids? GM: We do. Sarah is 34 and lives in OKC; Lauren is 29 and lives in Tulsa; and George is 26, living in Sanger. BK: Let’s talk cars now. What was your first car? GM: Here I was, 15-16 years old, scouring the LA Times for a car. Ahhh, what a great car I found: it was a 1967 VW Karmann Ghia with a 356 1600 Super engine in it. BK: So you have always been a car guy then from an early age? GM: Safe to say I think it’s in my genes. When I was born, our family car was a 1953 356 1500 Super cab; my dad built a platform in the back so that he could mount my car seat (laughing). Then in grade school we had a red ‘63 cab. My dad liked to buy cars, fix them up, drive them 2-3 years, then sell them for the next project. BK: And what was your first Porsche? GM: In 1983 I bought a 1974 914 2-liter “Creamsicle” Limited Edition; I think only 1,000 were made. We had that until Sarah arrived in 1986. It was my daily driver, making the commute from Santa Clara to Newark for three years.

BK: What came next? GM: Only about a year went by without a Porsche. In 1987 we bought the ‘64 356. This time I was scouring the San Francisco

some TLC, so I drove it as a work in progress; as a matter of fact it was off the road for about seven years. I did most of the work, and some guys from work offered to paint it for me, and what you see today is that car.

BK: I hear there is a story with your Boxster purchase? GM: Oh yes! This one was not planned at all. We bought it about two years Angie Maffey with their 1964 356 ago. One day I was out and about with a Porsche T-shirt on, Chronicle. My dad was visiting and an older woman saw me, telling and we found one in Pleasanton. me that her husband had passed As we drove up my dad said, “buy away and had a ‘97 in the garage; it!” (laughing). Let’s say it needed she wished it were running. Well some time went on, and we talked again about the car, and at that point she was thinking of just getting rid of it now. I was like “hold on a second - let me take a look at it.” So I went to see it. It had been sitting for eight years, never WEEKDAYS 7AM-3PM being run. We WEEKENDS 8AM-3PM talked more and WWW.NESTCAFE.NET I bought it from

her. We got it home and sorted things out, finally getting it started, to find out it had only 13.4K miles on it (smiling). Needless to say we finished getting it road-ready and today it runs like a champ. BK: Tell me about you and the Tub Club? GM: I joined the Tub Club in the late 90s, occasionally attending a few events over the years. Then in 2018 they were looking for a new president. I had just retired, and as they say, the rest is history I have been president going on four years now. BK: Not unusual when I hear a Porsche owner has another passion besides their cars; I hear you have one? GM: I do. Out of college I bought a Moto Morini Italian motorcycle. I would love to ride it up in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Well, I never entirely let go of that love of European bikes. So about 10 years ago I bought a ‘72 BMW R50/5 followed by a ‘66 R50/2. Paul Mosley, you might just have a new friend . . . driving friendships one BMW bike at a time. 21

Inspired: Richard Pietruska by Scott Kellogg, Region Concours Chair

26 March

Years ago when I was in college, I had a great instructor Richard Pietruska. He was one of the coolest teachers at the school, at least to those of us in the Industrial Design program. He has had many

favorites as well,” said Pietruska. “I was inspired to create this piece by a story in the November 2017 issue of Porsche Panorama. It explained how Porsche’s 917 delivered the German carmaker its first overall win at the

motion of the automobile, while simplifying the basic design lines of some of the most exotic vehicles of the past and present. His work has been featured in various magazines, including Road

well know automotive designers go through his classroom. He would always have a great way of helping everyone turn out some amazing designs and art. As well as being a great teacher and designer in his own right, he also does fine art, which we are sharing here today. If the art of motion can be captured in a sculpture, Richard has done it in a remarkable way. For this particular piece, PORSCHE 917K – Spirit of Le Mans, Richard creates a beautiful speed form capturing the grace and elegance of the 917K in motion. “This is one of the most iconic racing Porsches in history, and one of my

24 Hours of Le Mans during 1970 and then repeated in 1971. The car also played a leading role in Steve McQueen’s racing epic film, Le Mans, promoting racing to a much broader worldwide audience.” The fiberglass sculpture is 6’ long by 22’ wide and features the iconic Gulf racing colors. The piece is highly stylized and curved, showing both speed and motion. His use of various media – from paint to tapestries – focuses on automotive sculpture, using techniques ranging from bronze casting to cast resin and fiberglass, stainless steel and plastics. His sculptures exhibit the dynamic fluid

& Track, Automobile Magazine, The Robb Report, Pilota, Octane Magazine and Garage Magazine. He is also one of the few automotive sculptors to have been chosen to do the artwork for the Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance poster. In addition, Pietruska has designed awards and trophies for many automotive events, including the Car of the Year Award for Automobile Magazine, the Cranbrook Concours d’Elegance, the Petersen Museum and the Newport Beach Concours d’Elegance. Taycan Turbo S: It’s a Dream, But It’s No Electric Sheep by Michael Durovick Our Maverick of the Month this month is more than just a great photographer with great taste in cars, it turns out he’s a great interviewer too. Michael recently did a shoot with Wendy and James Shoffit’s Taycan Turbo S and sat down with Wendy to talk about what it’s like to drive Stuttgart’s latest wundercar and entry into the all electric hyper-sedan.

MD: What were the first few weeks of ownership like for you? WS: To be honest, we had some hiccups with some of the electronics and getting everything set up on the car. We had great service from Porsche Plano to help make everything right and we’ve been enjoying it thoroughly

WS: So far it has met all expectations engineering wise… it’s just stupid fast! There’s no other way to describe it. It’s amazing to get a 4 door car with 750 HP that feels as luxurious as it does that can go that quickly and handle that well. It’s absolute sensory overload from beginning to end. MD: If you had to do it all over again, is there anything you would do differently with regards to options, color, or interior? WS: In short, not really. James ordered just about every feature it had from the white wheels to the glacier blue headlights to the very cool passenger display. I’m sure eventually there will be a hack to display Netflix on there! He’s a big fan of white cars and it really suits him. MD: Now that the car has a few miles on the odometer, how does the car make you feel? WS: It feels… electric! It’s exciting to drive a car that has generated so much buzz. We had that with the 2015 Cayman GT4 back then, but this is even more exciting than that. It draws attention for sure and everyone wants to know just *how* fast it goes. Thanks to both Michael and the Shoffits for a look at their new toy. Michael, as usual you made beautiful design, well beautiful. -Ed

Michael Durovick: Hello Wendy. For those who don’t know you, please let us know a little about yourself regarding your time with the Maverick Region or Porsche in general. Wendy Shoffit: James and I have been members of Maverick Region since December 1997. We have held multiple positions locally and nationally in PCA and have always wanted to be as involved as we can. We have made more friendships than we can count with the wonderful people in the club all over the country (and some internationally)! MD: I understand you have quite a bit of track experience/skills and are DE instructor. Can you tell us a little about that? WS: James always knew he wanted to drive a Porsche on track… I was a little slower to get on board. Since 28 March

1998 we have autocrossed, time trialed, rallied, toured, and participated in Drivers’ Education when available. James Club Raced for years all across the country. I’ve always been on the administrative side of things, as DE registrar (off and on) and CR registrar for about 20 years. James was a DE instructor, but I’ve never tackled that particular job. I have enjoyed autocrossing most and competing for some lovely trophies. MD: What made you decide to pull the trigger and purchase a Taycan Turbo S? WS: That was all James! He had been watching the evolution of the Mission E/Taycan for the past few years and just knew he had to have it. Anyone who knows James knows he has to go big or go home! I’m often figuratively and literally along for the ride, but you won’t catch me complaining!

ever since. There’s a pretty steep learning curve, though, with the charging and multitudes of setups involved. Fortunately we are pretty technically savvy and are figuring things out as we go. MD: How does the Taycan handle on the track? WS: We haven’t tried it out yet, but will soonerishly. It’s a very heavy car, but with the instant power to the wheels, it absolutely LAUNCHES! The handling is amazing on the street and I can only imagine it will not disappoint on the track. We also plan to try autocrossing it sometime just for the fun of it! MD: I know you haven’t had the car long, but for the time you have, what is your overall impression of this model? 29

January Maverick Happy Hour and Social photo provided by Debi Kruder Our most recent PCA Maverick Happy Hour and Social was a great success! Many of your fellow club members and friends joined together via Zoom to see each other, catch up, and share some much-needed pandemic laughter. Our sponsor, Clark Randall, CFP® owner of Financial Enlightenment, a retirement income planning firm, offered a complementary investment portfolio risk analysis, valued at $350, to the first Maverick to correctly answer one of two trivia questions. Our winners were Maverick members Gregory Wilson and Simon Dirngerger. Gregory knew that Tesla was the largest company ever to be added to the Standard and Poors 500 index, while Simon correctly answered that the Biden Administration has promised not to raise income taxes on anyone making less than $400,000 per year. Lisa Ward joined the winners when she received a bottle of Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon by sharing the best example of how she spent her money in 2020 – by purchasing a new home. After the games, we settled in to learn how mixologist, Frank Zack, creates his amazing tasty cocktails. Many of us followed along at home, which made all of us winners. Join us on the third Thursday of every month at 6:30 pm for Maverick Happy Hour and Social. Check out the details of upcoming socials at MavPCA.org.

Jerry DeFeo You can test your knowledge (or Google search ability) of all things Porsche by participating in the monthly trivia contest posted online at http:// mav.pca.org/trivia. In the case of ties, a random drawing determines the winner. Here are the questions for the January 2021 Trivia, this month dealing with miscellaneous trivial Porsche items from the past and present. The winner this month was Wendy Shoffit, getting all 5 of 5 correct. Honorable Mention goes to Tom Martin, also getting all 5 correct. In case of a tie, the winner is chosen by a drawing.

Oversteer: Letter from the Editor by Kurt Scaggs, Managing Editor

As I sit at my desk, it’s 8° outside and my mind can’t quite wrap itself around the idea that it will be 60° in five days. But that’s Texas for you, it’s always changing. Hopefully you’ve been able to stop by slipstreampca.org our new online home. That will be a change too, but we’ll still meet here every other month and compare stories. With spring on the way, hopefully some of those stories will be about the Maverick events we’ve attended rather than the new mask we just bought. If you perused the coming events page, you’ll see a very welcome sight. Instead of “canceled” you’ll see “rescheduled”, and many of those rescheduled events are just around the corner. I’m sure there will be some changes at those events too, we’re not quite out of the woods yet, but any time I get to spend with my Porsche buddies is a welcome diversion from a reality that has become an almost constant exercise in patience. There are some really great times upcoming and I’ve included them a little early because we need some sunshine. Scott Kellogg will finally be able to host the Maverick Concours weekend. This is one you don’t want to miss, the warm up at the Founders Day was a great first act. Fajitas, drinks and shiny Porsches are

just the kind of things I’d like to be enjoying right now, believe me. Another favorite you won’t want to miss is the Bluebonnet Tour out in Ennis (page 22). Although the club was forced to cancel the organized drive last year, my family made the trip anyway and saw some familiar faces. But it just wasn’t the same without you. I’m looking forward to do it for real this year. We all need some new bluebonnet photos, right? Last but most definitely not least is the not to be missed Alle Mitglieder or All Member Party. The day starts with the All Member tour (registration required) which leaves from 455 in Van Alstyne and travels through the towns of Weston, Celina, Pilot Point, Tioga, arriving at our destination of Gunter, TX. Stick around and enjoy brunch at One Preston Event Center Carriage House, Chapel, and Victorian Estate. New members are our special guests with FREE registration discount codes available. Autocross is back, Club Racing is kicking off, thinking of all of these events are warming me up just thinking about them. So it’ll be a bit before we talk again, but I’ll see you right back here in May. Until then, keep smiling and Enjoy the drive!
