Prez Says by James Shoffit, Maverick Region President Since last month’s plea for volunteers didn’t seem to resonate with many people, we still have a few positions open. An important job that takes very little time is being the person who checks on the PCA information boards at the various dealers. As the “Information Board Czar” for your nearest dealer, you would be responsible for checking on it every few months and putting in the latest information and making sure it is stocked. It is a good time for you to visit with the sales people and see if a GT2 is wandering around the parking lot waiting for a test drive! Let me know if you would be interested. I have one person that has accepted for one dealership, but would like to hear from others who might be able to drop by their local dealer rather frequently. The Christmas Party, graciously hosted by the Wilkins’ again, was quite an event. I can’t remember seeing that many Mavericks together in one place ever! There must have been over one hundred of my closest friends there! Every January, I feel like David Letterman opening his program by saying “we have quite a show for you this year.” And every year this time I feel like I have bitten off more than I can chew! So many events, so little free time… We are going to try some new things with Autocross this

year. We will again have some events in town and others at Mineral Wells. We are in negotiations with several local venues to get local events at good prices. Our autocrosses have gone up in price, keeping up with other clubs who have done the same, but we still feel we offer the best autocrossing value for your dollar! We are also going to get a Concours program going, but will start out slowly so everyone can get up to speed. This is one area that Maverick Region has been a bit deficient lately. Looking back through my files, I realized this is the 37th article I have written in the past 3 years – I had one year as co-editor (though Wendy did all the work, of course!) and then another year where I insisted having my voice heard. Then last year I was President (or at least got to wear the fancy presidential sash and top hat). We have a big year ahead of us and need lots of help; so come on out and join the fun!

Because I Said So by Wendy Shoffit, Editor For some strange reason, I keep singing “Back in the Saddle Again” over and over in my head. I wonder why? Seriously, though, thank you, Pam Abdalla for doing such a wonderful job in 2001 and for your kind words in last month’s issue. Being editor is certainly no easy task and you handled it marvelously. Now that everyone has confirmed their membership in the mutual appreciation club, let’s get down to business. This year will be a bit different from year’s past. Putting Slipstream together will no longer be a one-woman job. Fortunately for me, I can now take on the role of “Managing Editor” with several people helping me out substantially. Those people include “Production Editor” Kevin Hardison, Teri Davis, and Lisa Steele (official titles to come later). I’m hoping that through teamwork, I can maintain my own sanity and we can produce an improved newsletter for you all. Please note there are also some email changes. No, I’m not talking about the @home.com fiasco recently. I’m actually talking about the new editor@mavpca.org address to send all articles and/or inquiries, the pictures@mavpca.org address to send all pictures, unclassifieds@mavpca.org for unclassifieds and so on. This way should eliminate any confusion or loss of

messages if an email address changes in the future. On a personal note, I wanted to say a sad goodbye to John and Suzanne Cochran who will be moving to Washington, D.C. at the first of the year. You both will be greatly missed. I’m looking forward to a great year and for all of you who were at my special dinner board meeting, here’s the recipe for my dessert. For the rest of you, try it... it’s super easy and delicious!

Mexican Cobbler 10 Flour Tortillas 1 Can Cherry* Pie Filling 1 stick butter

1 1/2 cups sugar 1 cup water 1-2 tsp Almond Extract or Liquor

1. Roll pie filling in tortillas like enchiladas and put in 9x13 baker. 2. In sauce pan combine butter, sugar, and water. Bring to a boil and add almond extract. 3. Bring to a boil and add almond extract. Pour liquid over tortillas, keeping a little to baste with. Soak 40-60 minutes, re-basting edges as needed. 4. Bake at 350 degrees until brown (about 30 minutes). 5. Top with powdered sugar and cinnamon. *This also works with other pie fillings, as long as large pieces are cut into smaller portions.Cherry is easiest to work with.

Maverick Minutes by Andy Mears, Maverick Region Secretary Each month Maverick Region holds a board meeting that is open to all members. A summary of the meeting minutes is published in the Slipstream the following month. December’s board meeting started with a fabulous pre-meeting dinner prepared by Wendy Shoffit. The dessert that followed was equally delectable. Thank you, Wendy, for all your hard work. James Shoffit opened the meeting just after 7:00. First up, a big thanks goes out to Dorothee Thielisch for making 50 stockings for families at Hope Shelter. Next, thanks to the outgoing Vice President team of Mimi and Carey Spreen for all their hard work in 2001 and congratulations to Eric Erz who will be serving as Vice President for 2002. Charlie Davis thanked Maverick Region for sponsoring the 914 SIG’s Ramble as well as all the volunteers that helped. Teri Davis wanted to remind everyone of the Rally school coming up in January look for the ad this month. Tinker introduced Dennis Chamberlain who will be taking on the responsibility of coordinating the happy hours. Another volunteer change is that Wendy has stepped up to work as Slipstream editor once again so, send your scanned and digital pictures to pictures@mavpca.org and your articles to 8

editor@mavpca.org. Finally, after a very lively discussion regarding who may vote at a board meeting, James offered to clarify this issue at the next board meeting. The January board meeting will be on Wednesday January 2 at 7:00 PM, everyone is welcome to attend and if you would like to request that an item for discussion be placed on the agenda please contact James Shoffit at president@mavpca.org.

Maverick Region PCA Board Meetings are held once a month. The meetings are open to all PCA members and your suggestions and opinions are welcome. And there’s free food!

Self Spraying Tips By Jim Hunt Here are a couple of more photos of my freshly painted "Gulf Racing" 911. http://staging.huntinter.com/johncar/my_gulf_911.htm

3) Don't paint in your garage that is under your bedroom (my wife almost passed out)

This whole thing started when my wife hit a pothole (a deep one) and cracked the front fiberglass bumper. This was particularly ironic because she has been wanting me to sell the car since I picked up the Turbo. Of course this was a natural way for me to delay selling anything :)

4) Take the hood off, makes it easier to paint and is simple to remount

. . . Don’t paint in your garage that is under your bedroom . . .

5) Take the seats out and store somewhere safe (the paint "cloud" is amazing and gets everywhere) 6) Over spray on windows is easy to clean with a razor blade 7) Buy a random orbit sander it is a whole lot easier than by hand 8) Do the stripe before the rest of the car. It is easier to tape off a stripe then a whole car 9) Always use a tacky cloth right before painting

Anyhow, I took it off and started working on repairing it. Well, now that I was doing that, I decided to do a little rust mitigation on the fenders. That was a pretty easy task but now the car was looking somewhat checkered. So, always wanting a gulf racing 911, I went to Lowes and picked up a spray gun and compressor and got to it. I have never painted a car before and have a couple of hints for anyone wanting to try it.

10

10) Use a mask (a 3M disposable is only $20 or so) 11) Paint the hard to reach areas first, large areas of the car paint really fast (takes longer to tape the car then to paint it) 12) Paint runs are not a problem, in fact it was really hard to get the paint to run with the gun.

1) Use a simple color or colors, metallic can be really hard to get right

13) Pressure wash the whole car (underneath as well to get at all the dirt, easier to do now then later when you find some stuff you have to fix under there)

2) Use a full size paint gun, I used a touch up gun and it took longer to paint

14) Have fun and be bold! Worst case scenario you are sanding and repainting again :) and anything is better then a roller!

What We Saw in Arkansas By Dee Lersch MR-PCA prowled the peaks of the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas the first weekend in November. The mountain air was invigorating, the road runs exciting and the mineral baths soothing. Eleven teams in Carreras, Boxsters, a 928, a 944, a Tar-Cab and 2 BMW's joined Tour Leaders Ted and Bonnie Glover for the Fall Foliage tour. Bill & Joey Coates, Tinker Edwards, Charlotte, Douglas & Mimi Grant, Mark Gluck, Dan & Steve Marusa, Suresh & Kathleen Mathews, Jim Mayzurk, Douglas McCall, Judith & Carl Moore, Bill Moody, Tom , Alice & Fred Wynn, Tom & Angelica Widmer and John & I left Plano early Friday morning, sped up thru Oklahoma then across into Arkansas. We arrived in Hot Springs five minutes before the 4:30 P.M. time Ted had estimated earlier in the day.

Breakfast was at the Mount Ida Café and we were off thru the early morning fog to Magazine Mountain and lunch at the Mather Lodge at the top of Petit Jean State Park. We had time, also, for a wonderful tour of the Museum of Automobiles - 50 vintage driving machines documented with their histories original prices, production runs and marketing strategies. Did you know the original "four door" wasn't a number at all? It was a "fore door". And the Town Car, do you know the origins of its name? I do now! (Just ask me, I dare you!)

. . . First time I’ve ever seen 911 owners envy Boxsterites . . .

Ted's tours are always well organized and this one exceptionally so. Just imagine! When one car threw a fan belt, Ted had a spare one in his trunk. 'course, 'twas Ted's car that threw the fan belt but <grin> great planning! Ted had also arranged to have our tour mentioned in the Hot Springs newspaper. Ozark Region member, Robert Trinkle, read the article and emailed an invitation for us to visit while we were in town. In fact, he and his lovely wife, JoAnn, invited all of us out to their home on Lake Hamilton for drinks and appetizers. Home. Weellll, you've heard of a show home with attached garage? Robert and JoAnn Trinkle have a Porsche show room with attached house. (House was nice, too.) Robert has been a (automotive) model maker for much of the past 20 years. He estimates he's made more than 1000 models for customers, including the 23 models he's made for celebrities such as Jerry Seinfield.

The twisty roads were fun to drive.

Early Saturday morning we started with a twisting scenic drive up Hot Springs Mountain that stopped near the Mountain Tower for photographs, sunshine and a spectacular view of the city, mountains, forests and lakes that surround Hot Springs. We also spotted a few Mel Gibson wanna-be's striding around in kilts and tartans representing another group in Hot Springs for the weekend: the Mid American Celtic Festival & Scottish Games.

The historic Arlington Hotel which adjoins the Hot Springs National Park was tour base and we spent both Friday and Saturday nights there. In addition to an outdoor mountainside hot tub and twin swimming pools heated with thermal mineral water, The Arlington has its own private mineral baths, saunas and masseuses. As John went off to wash and refuel our car, I took a mineral bath and got my bod scrubbed, wrapped and saunaed. Friday night's dinner was also at the Arlington, an all-you-can-eat buffet featuring some of the best seafood John and I have had since we left New England.

Everyone loved the Trinkles’ showroom.

In addition he has another 800 or so in his home. The models share their pristine garage with two equally pristine Porsches - a 2000 silver Boxster and a cherry red, 1965, 356 C - complete with luggage rack, welltraveled luggage and a California license plate reading "OLD356C". Robert gave us Concours lessons in detailing (with clay cleaner, no less!). I imagine he needs to detail the 356C often in order to remove our <drool>.

Dee Lersch, Mark Gluck, Tom & Angelika Widmer enjoying the local cuisine. 12

JoAnn was the Manager of a Porsche race team before the Trinkles moved to Arkansas. She showed us selections from their impressive collection of Porsche (and other race team) videos and introduced us to "Stormy" an all American dog who has an uncanny ear for the fine tuning of anyone's Boxster. (His master drives a Boxster so Stormy

greeted each and every one of our Boxsters with unbridled joy. First time I've ever seen 911 owners envy Boxster-ites!) During dinner at the Brau Haus Restaurant, JoAnn and Robert regaled us with stories of how they met, Porsche touring in Europe and their visits to the Porsche factory in the homeland.

bicycle. <shudder> As we crossed into Texas our progress became wind-like, a series of swift straight runs thru the outskirts of small deserted towns that were flanked by long and lazy S-curves. We did pick up one Dodge Ram pickup truck driver determined to live the Dodge Durango commercial and run with us for about 20 miles but only one event was truly dismaying. As we all swept thru one Y-intersection (most of us on the wrong side of a stop sign) we were spotted by a startled cop with a "Naaaawww, I didn't really see that...., " expression. He didn't give chase and we drove on, arriving back in Dallas, again, 5 minutes before's Ted's 4:30 PM estimate. Perfect timing and a great time! Thank you, Ted and Bonnie.

Sunday's weather was glorious: sunny, crisp and cool. We swept back up the peak of Rich Mountain for a fine southern brunch at the Queen Wilhelmina Lodge then down on the Talimena Scenic Drive. Arkansas drivers were as warm to us as the skies were sunny: waving us on, pulling off the road to let us pass, waiting for the whole group to clear a stop sign before they proceeded. One couldn't help but feel, well, special.

Again, this time we lacked only you to make it perfect. Next time, come run with the Porsche pack!

The trees were decked out in beautiful fall colors.

Bill & Joey Coats were pleased to get to know some of Ted’s family.

From the Tourmeister By Ted Glover For all the members in the Maverick Region who were not aware of a change in Tourmeisters, I have succeeded Nelson Hodges as the Tourmeister for MRPCA. We have had our first Fall Foliage Tour to Arkansas since the change and I hope everybody enjoyed themselves. Dee Lersch has been kind enough to write an article about the tour, which I hope will kindle enthusiasm for this type of event throughout the year.

keep any interested member up to date about any planned tours.

. . . maybe we can draw some members who have not been able to enjoy a touring event . . .

1) April 20, 2002 - East Texas Wildflower Tour 2) May 18-19, 2002 - Louisiana Tour (Two day tour) 3) November 23, 2002 - East Texas Fall Tour

Of course, if any member wants to talk to me about anything relating to touring, please call me at (972) 248-7751. The next issue of Slipstream will have a list of tour dates and the type of tour planned. Tentative tour dates for short tours:

Three-day tours can be demanding on peoples’ time, so I hope to have some one-day tours and a two-day tour set up. With the shorter tours, maybe we can draw some members who have not been able to enjoy a touring event because of the conflicts that can arise with a longer tour. Unlike Nelson, I am not computer literate, so I do not do e-mail. However, I do have friends (Carl Moore and Hill Bullock) who have volunteered to be the e-mail and web site liasons. They will be able to

For 2002, the dates for the two main tours have been decided. They will be April 4-6 and October 25-27. Details will follow as the plans are finalized, but go ahead and mark your calendar.

Founders Day Celebration-Hard to Find, but Worth it By Carey Spreen Maverick Region's 38th annual look back at the year, known in these parts as Founders Day, took place last November 10th at the Orndorf Haus in Highland Village. The Orndorf Haus is a facility that caters to weddings and other large gatherings that require food service. And as some of our members found out, it is a BIT hard to find, and not well marked at all. Making this worse was the fact that the main road leading to the place was under construction, and most of the street signs either had been taken down or otherwise hidden from the driving public's prying eyes. However, once found, it turned out to be quite an enjoyable evening. The festivities began after 6 pm, with roving wait-persons wandering around with delicious and imaginative hors-d'oeuvres as arriving Mavericks examined the silent auction items as well as the door prizes on display, courtesy of Lanean Hughes' legendary skills in getting people and companies to donate money, time, and items to us, usually to benefit the Hope Shelter.

Dinner began a bit after 7, with an assortment of beef, ham, and chicken breast, as well as salad, fruit, potatoes, and several different dessert choices to finish it off. President James Shoffit then got down to the "business" of the evening, namely, giving out trophies and awards earned during 2001. The driving event trophy winners are listed elsewhere in this issue, but here are the folks that were honored this year:

For their contributions to the operation of the Region throughout the year:

And the Selcer Award Goes to... By James Shoffit The Richard F. Selcer award was originated by Don Spaulding, and first given away in 1976 to Charlie Davis. It is a symbol of the pride of Maverick Region, and it is the top honor bestowed by the club. It is given away at the sole discretion of the President to the member he feels best represents the heart and soul of Maverick Region. But first a little bit about Dick Selcer. He was treasurer of the club from 69 through 71. As Treasurer, we always had money. He was also an entertainer and always had his ukulele. He was a true member, and always attended events. And he was a friend – always there to help. His death was not important – his life was. And we remember his dedication and contributions to the club each year by presenting this award. It seems like every year when we give away the Selcer award, the President describes the recipient without naming the person. We all listen and try to guess who the next honoree will be. This year will be no different, though I doubt it will take very long for anyone to figure out who it will be. This person has been a member of the region for over 16 years. This person is the only one I know of that actively attends Autocrosses, Time Trials, Rallies, instructs at Drivers Eds and Club Races – and has done so for many years.

Our safety is always foremost on the mind of this participant, contributor, and organizer. The favored steeds of this person may never win top time of day at a race, or win first place at a concours, but they always show up with their owner smiling proudly. But that is not what separates this person from the pack. It is the personal dedication to the club and its members that goes so far beyond showing up to events.

. . . complete a lap without the decklid flying up or catching fire . . . Cooking barbecue at every opportunity for us. Striving to build a corner worker system, against all odds. Bravely challenging his cars to complete a lap without the decklid flying up or catching fire. But most of all, I thank him for giving of himself, his time, his wisdom, and his knowledge to make our club events safer and more fun. Thank you, Joe McGlohen, for all your hard work.

Hope Stocking Stuffer By Lanean Hughes Refrigerator Fund

Our thanks to Dorothee Thielisch and her children for making and decorating the 50+ Christmas Stockings for the shelter. Each one was different and big enough to fill full! Debbie Lage, daughters Jennifer & Emily, Wendy & Jasmine, Kent Haven, Dorothee and I filled the 50 stockings, and 10 tins for the staff, as well as the many cosmetic bags for the shelter. The “German goodies and hospitality were much appreciated.

Thanks to John Hrad of The Porsche Store who started the fund rolling! Through the contributions from so many people, we were able to get the new refrigerator. Some money was also sent to the Pythian Home for computer products.

Happy Hour At SpeedZone By Kevin Doukas Once again I have opened my BIG mouth and inserted my foot all the way to my knee. There I was minding my own business (stop laughing Charlie) when Tinker came up to me and asked(?) me to write about our latest Happy Hour adventure. So here goes.....

couple of 'cold one's' with some very good friends, both old and new. The more we 'hoisted' the better the stories became, and somehow each story brought back several fond memories and quite a few laughs, some about things that just should not be shared in a public forum such as this one! Charlie and I had to leave a bit early to catch the Stars game from L.A., but, I hear there was quite a bit of excitement and a few injuries from the video games and the air hockey wars that ensued and something about a plastic car stuck in the mud offroad! I sure don't know about those cars or the people that drive them, you would think they would like to keep them on the road but then again who knows! Tink, any pictures?

Having been a P.C.A. member for quite a Dennis Chamberlain long time (17 years) and once more a Porsche (Happy Hour chair) owner thanks to John Hrad and Craig Campbell at TPS ('01 and "02 Turbo) Lorene and I hoped we would be welcomed back into the fold from the "Dark Side", you know that other car company from Modena, Italy so we decided to RSVP for the happy hour get together at Speedzone. An e-mail to our gracious host Tinker and we're all set.

If you have not joined this crazy group at one of these Happy Hour events PLEASE come out! You just never know what's going to happen next! Many thanks to Tinker for chairing this event and see you all next month....Hey Tink, SPEEDZONE again with the weather cooperating!?!?!?

As the time came closer I looked forward to the "competition" that would surely take place with the karts. Having missed the DE the previous weekend this sure looked like a way to satisfy that old urge for some good old fashion 'red mist'. Unfortunately David Finfrock's forecast did not cooperate and the Thursday's clouds turned into a steady rain around the time Charlie Clemmer and I headed off to the event.

Be sure to join us for our next Happy Hour: January 17 at Nuevo Leon

As we arrived we were pleasantly surprised by the number of Dr. Porsche's finest in the parking lot along with a very strange looking plastic car, I think we call them "Corvettes" I can not be sure because every time I see one of these cars at a track event it seem to always be going around in circles and I never seem to be able to read the name on the vehicle due to speed in which they spin. More on that later...

Building a Track Trailer for your 911 or Boxster By Doug Molny

My most recent memory of seeing a 911 pulling a trailer was at Texas World Speedway at the end of 2000. I queried the gentleman and he told me that he started with a trailer he found at "Harbor Freight" online for $220.00. It comes with a light kit as well and the paperwork to have it registered and licensed. The price was right so I placed the order on line and had it delivered to my office, it came in 2easily managed boxes along with the extra spare tire and stand I had ordered as an option. The spare tire and stand ran about $80.00. It was like putting together the old erector sets when I was a kid, very easy with a minimum of tools and rather enjoyable.

So You Want to Build A Track Trailer For Your 911 or Boxster? Well then, read on.......

Yes, a hitch can go on the bumper of a 911. built-in lock. The Porsche pulls it quite well with no difficulties except for backing up, since it is so short it is a little tricky!

. . . I was very impressed until I got the bill . . .

While the trailer was being worked on I went over to "Joe's Hitch & Trailer" they had previously made several hitches for other Porsche owners and had a good idea what it takes to make a trailer hitch from scratch. Once they were done I was very impressed until I got the bill $460 including the wiring harness for the lights and 2 locks one for the tongue and one for the hitch assembly. The wiring harness under the rear hood is difficult to conceal, I used a pull tie and tucked in over the right front wheel. So once again we all know how expensive it is to go racing, but I had longed for the "Southsport" trailers that are manufactured in Florida and thought this would be a great way to save money and get the next best thing.

My first problem was that I do not weld, so it was imperative that I find someone who could custom make supports for each wheel and tire and a lockable bar to run through the wheels. In the past when I needed something special done to my other cars I had been directed to a gentleman who builds hotrods and this guy turned out some quality work. My next step was to find a tool box for the rear and one that was lockable and as indestructible as I could possibly find. "Earl Owen Company" in downtown Dallas carried a large selection so I picked one that fit and delivered it to my hotrod guy. When he was done with the welding work he painted it black and mounted the tool box, wired the lights and handed me a bill for twice the cost of the trailer. I must admit it did come out great and the tire rack and tool box made the trailer very stable but I had convinced myself I was going to do this cheaply, oh well so much for that fantasy.

Well, the cost was about the same and, I am still not sure what the best choice was. As you can see, it's perfect for DE's and Autocrosses and keeps me from hauling track tires in my Benz which stills smells from track tires from before the trailer was completed. I have used it many times now and it is just the best way short of buying a SUV and a 16' trailer to make our events with all the necessary paraphernalia. If you would like more information or would like to see it in person call me I will be happy to show it to you and provide you with names and numbers (dmolny@ jimlakeco.com).

The tool box is very roomy and you can get everything necessary to make tire changing easy in there. The tool box cost about $225 and is worth every penny, it comes with a hydraulic arm for the top and a

The trailer and tow vehicle.

Add a Porsche sticker as a finishing touch.

Watch for upcoming Slipstream issues for an article about how to install a trailer hitch on your Porsche so that you, too, can have a trailer like Doug’s! 22

Origin of the Porsche Crest By Terry Lovett, Porsche Club of Canberra, Australia THE CREST: In 1951 Porsche was finalizing plans for its move from the war time sanctuary of Gmund back to Stuttgart. Importers and agents selling his product made it clear that customers wanted some sort of trademark or badge to identify their vehicles, which till then only carried the word "Porsche" on the bodywork. In 1952, Professor Porsche had devised the basic design of the crest. Folklore has it that he sketched it on a serviette during a luncheon. Whether true or not, it was Messrs. Lepper and Riemspiess of the publicity and design studios who carefully finalized the design. There are three components: the family name, of course, is positioned at the top, while the other two components reflect Porsche's gratitude for the rebirth of the company in the Stuttgart area. The red and black bars with the antlers are from the coat of arms of the State of Wurttemberg, and the horse is from the coat of arms of Stuttgart, capital of Wurttemberg. The origins of Stuttgart developed from the royal patronage given in historical times to the area. A fine horse stud developed here. So (Stud Garden) Stutt Garten and Stuttgart. The crest first appeared on a Porsche in 1953, but was limited to the interior of the car on the horn button. It was not until 1957 that the crest joined the word Porsche on the front bonnet of a 356 Coupe. THE COLOR: Maroon or claret has appeared on the driver's hand-books, service manuals and official letterheads since 1951. The choice of color was due to necessity rather than any romantic design consideration. After the second World War, colored inks were in very short supply and colored papers were only just being reintroduced. It was in this environment that the first handbooks were produced. To maintain an attractive design

within the shortages of the period, black ink and colored stock was chosen. The small printer Glauner happened to have some colored paper in maroon. It was a case of no alternatives. No one could imagine the precedent that this would set.

. . . he sketched it on a serviette during a luncheon . . . Today, all official stationery, driver's wallets and even the exterior color schemes of the new factory building in Stuttgart utilize bold stripes of these colors. THE SCRIPT: The Porsche script has undergone a number of evolutionary phases since it appeared on Porsche No. 1 at Gmund in June 1948.From the outset, the square shape of the letters was apparent. Initially, letters were placed individually in a curved pattern on the front of the cars. In 1950, a horizontal underlining bar joined all the letters into a single unit. In 1952, the letters became more squat (extended.) This design remained unchanged for the remaining life of the 356 series. In 1963-64, the 911 came on the scene. The word Porsche reverted to a series of individual letters of a thinner and more open shape. In 1974, the metal letters were no longer used. Instead they were depicted on the reflective panel separating the tail lights of the 911. To end, I quote Tony Lapine, head of styling studio: "More than any emblem or logo, Professor Porsche himself represents the bond between tradition and progressive technology that makes Porsche such a unique company."
