Š2012 Porsche Cars North America, Inc. Porsche recommends seat belt usage and observance of all traffic laws at all times. Optional equipment shown is extra.

What does it mean to be a lead Porsche service department? In our service department, we have always strived to be the best. In 2005, Porsche came to us and asked us to start sending in reports to a group of engineers and tasked us with looking for any area of vehicle development that could be improved. We are currently 1 of 18 dealers in North America that they have chosen to ask for this help. It is an honor we simply accepted. Since that time we have strived to always report accurately and have received great feedback from engineering. Our feedback to Porsche has given us an opportunity to be at the doorstep of their leading edge technology. We were chosen by Porsche to take on the task of spending our time examining our repairs then forwarding exactly what we saw, how we diagnosed it and how we resolved it. It is an honor to be recognized by one of the foremost automotive engineering companies on the planet in this way. When you bring your Porsche in to us it will be examined in a very special way. It is what we were doing before Porsche asked us for our help in improving their cars. Now we simply record and pass on what we do.

Proven performance in the workshop or at the track. It is our passion.

Drifting: Suggestions - I Love ‘Em! By John Hamilton, Region President

N

o one can think of everything by himself. And even a small group runs out of objectivity when they’ve been working together for a period of time. That’s why we have “The Suggestion Box” link on our homepage (mav. pca.org), and why we invite ALL members to our monthly Board Meeting (see ad later in this issue). I recently received an anonymous suggestion: “More activities for the members that are NOT interested in racing.” I think that’s a great idea! One of the cornerstones of our club is “inclusion,” which for us means to find more activities that will interest a broader group of our members. You can see what our current activities are on Page 1 of every issue. Please send us your suggestions for more activities that would interest YOU!

club Secretary (primarily reporting the activities at the board meetings), Autocross chair (scheduling and organizing the Autocross program) and Social chair (scheduling, budgeting and organizing our social activities). If you have a talent that you could contribute, won’t you please let us know either by writing me at president@mavpca. org or by coming to one of our upcoming board meetings? Because: YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU!

Volunteers Needed! As you know, this is an all-volunteer organization that sustains itself by the passion of its members for the enjoyment of the group. Every year we need to keep our volunteer group fresh, which includes some volunteers changing positions, leaving other positions open and available. Right now we’re looking for a few good women and men to fill some open positions, including

Mav of the Month Our Mav of the Month is one of our unsung heroes who, behind the scenes, has contributed his

talent to benefit an activity he loves. Craig Janssen has worked tirelessly over the last 7 months producing the Maverick Region instructor and “company line” videos for Eagles Canyon Raceway and Motorsport Ranch. Not only has he willingly donated his time (lots) and company resources, he has recruited professional volunteers to provide equipment and expertise to create a very polished product. These videos will help the Maverick Region achieve a high level of consistency and professionalism from our present and future DE instructors and improve the quality and viability of our DE program. So thank you, Craig, for your contributions to your club. Enjoy your gift certificate to the Silver Fox Steakhouse!

stronomers tell us that Autumn arrives this year on the 22nd, but for the Porsche Club, September signals the return of our driving events. Daily temperatures are finally topping out in the 90s instead of the 100s, which makes being outdoors at a racetrack, or standing in the middle of a sea of cones, or on your favorite twisty road in a Cabriolet with the top down, that much more fun. But having said that, we were not completely inactive or shut inside in the air conditioning this summer. A group of Mavericks made the trek to Salt Lake City in July

for the 57th edition of the Porsche Parade, and took home some hardware for our efforts. See the center spread for who did what and when.

Maverick Minutes By Gareth Maurice, Guest Scribe Dear Mavericks, I’d like to thank Gareth Maurice for attending this meeting and typing up the following notes. Merci! - Madhu Rao

O

ur August Board Meeting was back in full swing after taking the month of July off, since many members Not Gareth Maurice attended the Porsche Parade in Salt Lake City. Region President John Hamilton was unable to attend but was able to find someone with the same initials to take his place, and so John Harvey presided over the meeting. Madhu Rao, our Region Secretary, was enjoying some time off and so I have attempted to fill his place. The meeting began just after 7pm and lasted for approximately an hour and forty minutes. We had a great turnout with twenty-five people showing up, but best of all we had three new members attend for the first time. Marlee and Craig Shaw, who have been with various Porsche Clubs for years and are former DE Instructors, joined Shaina Drummond who recently moved here from the Carolinas as our three first time guests. Wendy Shoffit kicked off the meeting with a very special award to Richard Bradley, the previous Managing Editor of our monthly newsletter, Slipstream. His wife Robin and son Ethan were in attendance for Richard to receive the inaugural Betty Jo Turner Award for Newsletter Excellence, recognizing his work in making this the #1 Regional newsletter in the land. Great job, Richard! Christy Payne, filling in for 8

August 1, 2012 Membership Chair Lisa Steele, informed us of how well we are growing. The Maverick Region now has a total of 2,164 members, which is up almost twenty members since May. Keep inviting your Porsche friends to join. While the membership is up, the number of raffle tickets to Germany is down. WOOOHOOO! They now stand at less than (100) tickets for the One Week Trip for Two! Let Christy know if you have changed your mind, but you had better hurry. Marlee Shaw, our new member from Idaho, then informed us the Lions Club in Keller will be hosting a special benefit for a friend with cancer on Saturday, August 25. Please watch for additional details in the President’s email. Webmaster Denny Payne said many of us have mentioned how frustrating it is to go through the classified ad placement process, but he hears us and is working on a fix with the National office to automate the process and hopefully feed the National system as well. Treasurer Jim Falgout stated that the Maverick Region has a positive cash position and Pat Friend mentioned the Advertising renewals for Slipstream are about to go out. The annual advertisements are a great way to reach over 2,164 members both in print and on-line and so if you know any businesses looking to reach a new audience, please let Pat know. Not to let the boys share all of the good news, Drivers’ Ed Chair Lori Mauthe casually let it slip that all Driver’s Education events (DE’s) this year have been cash-positive. We all especially seemed to like the June one-day event as well! Speaking of the DE events, Lori confirmed that in the July 18 DE Committee meeting it was

determined that Big Brothers Big Sisters will return for the next DE event at MotorSport Ranch in September. (I personally attended the June DE and it was a great experience to share my car with a child as we drove the Charity Laps during lunch. Apparently he did not like the No Passing rule though. Hehehe). The September DE will have all sorts of extras too: an instructor led Track Walk teaching the finer points of how to attack the track, and Boardwalk will be bringing a new 2013 Boxster for everyone to see, along with hosting a BBQ dinner. Our Nominating Committee informed everyone there will be a few positions opening up for next year and so if you want to take a more prominent role within the Club please reach out to Lori Mauthe, Bruce McQuaid or Luke Edson. After showing off Richard Bradley’s trophy to everyone, Wendy Shoffit informed us that thirty-eight Mavericks attended the Salt Lake City Porsche Parade. Way to represent the Club, everyone! Seeing you liked Salt Lake so much, get ready because the 2013 Parade is in Traverse City, Michigan, and the 2014 edition will be in Monterey, California. (Strange that no one plans anything for Texas in July… oh well, maybe 2015.) Registration for Escape to the Ozarks will open August 13, and the event will be held November 8-11. Driving School Chair Robyn Howard and Time Trial Chair Travis Howard, along with Autocross Chair Al Silva, gave us a great update on the Time Trial and Autocross events that were held June 16 and 17. They had a fantastic turnout, and several new

attendees came out to learn how to handle their car better. As usual everyone loved it. Also, Robyn and Travis both competed in the Parade Autocross, with Robyn winning her class. (Now I am not saying she beat Travis, but he is no longer undefeated.) Happy Hour Chair Mike Farrar is looking forward to everyone joining him for the next Happy Hour at the Fox & the Hound in Lewisville on Thursday, August 16 at 6:30pm. PR Assistant Renee Farinella attended the Autos in the Park event and reiterated that it went very well. See her article in the August Slipstream for details. She is going to begin taking on a bigger role in promoting the Club from a PR perspective and will be working more with Linda Bambina. Carey “the Kilt Wearing” Spreen (see the August Slipstream cover) is going to resurrect a “Hare and

Hound” Rally in parallel with the upcoming September 29 Wine Tasting Drive. The Hare takes off ahead of the others, leaving markers as he drives his route. The Hounds follow later and the closest to the Hare’s final mileage wins. This can be a lot of fun for the kids, too, to help the driver spot the markers! John Harvey wrapped up the meeting by inviting everyone to attend the Bartonville Wine Tasting Drive. There will likely be four groups going for an afternoon drive ending at Grapes to Wine in Bartonville, with Italian food from Carraba’s. They have a large back room reserved for our group and you are guaranteed to have a GRAPE time. And on that note the meeting closed!

ast month’s column listed Mavericks who had received a National Award or a Top Place Trophy in a National Competitive Event through last year’s Parade. Needless to say, we “did it again!” at the Salt Lake City Parade as noted elsewhere in this issue. As it turns out, our Maverick Family “did it again” in another special way - Mavericks were there for other Mavericks who needed help. Rather than go into all the gory details, I will just encourage you readers to ask Joel Nannis and/ or Clay and Betty Perrine about their individual SAGAS in “Gettingto-the-2012-Parade” and about the support and problem solving that was contributed by fellow Parade Caravanning members Travis and Robyn Howard and Carey Spreen. I knew other storied “sagas” existed, and Parade is a perfect venue to gather those stories, so off I went. Ed Mayo is a gold mine of memories when it comes to bizarre tales of ingenuity over mechanical failure in God-forsaken locations. Apparently Ed learned, via an article that PCAer Mike Robbins wrote for 356 Registry magazine some 40+ years ago, about which replacement 10

parts (some 350 lbs worth!) are best to carry with you on a road trip. By the way, Mike Robbins has now attended 54 (yes, fifty-four) Parades, so even back then he knew a thing or two about road trips. Ed recounted a few amazing stories: replacing a 356 carburetor on the back roads of Arkansas, pulling a front bumper off a 914 to get to a hood release so Carl and Fran Ussery could put fuel in their car on a Weekend Tour, as well as helping at countless Autocrosses with “surprise” engine malfunctions. Speaking of “surprises,” I will personally never forget receiving a phone call at about midnight from Ed explaining that the truck we loaned him to haul a bunch of racing tires for various members had overheated and died near Jolly, Texas. Where? Oh, one of those God-forsaken locations in West Texas. Long story short, I can tell you with a straight face that when we called Bob Knight at close to 1 am (who was the closest person we could think of who owed an SUV

large enough to accommodate all those tires in Ed’s pickup), all he said was “Sure, you can borrow it, but I just washed it so bring it back clean.” What a guy. Fran Ussery recounted a great story of how Joel (sans shirt of course) crawled under her 914 on the hot pavement at Mineral Wells, covered with gasoline leaking from a broken fuel line. According to Joel, replacing the fuel line in that small hot space wasn’t the problem - the real problem was the burning he felt from getting all that fuel into a big cut on his finger! There are lots of other bizarre tales: a “Mangled Maverick” award, a Bob Manskey ski rope tow in New Mexico, when Mavericks used to herd to the Santa Fe region’s annual Fiesta Del Porsche. There are flat tire stories and “vanishing oil” stories, but mostly there are lots of laughs and somehow fond memories that drive home our deep appreciation for the cars we love to drive and for the friends who drive them.

Cliff ’s Ramblings: Track Work By Cliff Blackshear

LMS race last Saturday was extremely exciting to watch. Jorg Bergmeister was put into the position of keeping first place in class when he took over for the final stint. Patrick Long came in and had a flawless stop. Bergeimester took over. Came out and Oliver Gavin came up from behind. Gavin’s Corvette was on the second lap after a pit stop. Tires were on temp and giving lots of grip. Going into 4, Jorg could not defend adequately. Tires were just too cold in the braking zone. Gavin got by, a battle ensued, but it was just too late in the race

and the RSR was understeering. Second place by two tenths. I spoke with Abel tonight. He is a tech on the Flying Lizard number 45 car and has been there for multiple years. He thought it was funny that, when the race was over, some

Bergmeister had said “I cannot catch [Gavin] in time” and Gavin had said “I won’t be able to hold [Bergmeister] off.” Good stuff. of the Corvette guys and his teammates were talking, and each driver of the cars had indicated during final laps that each could not hold off the other. Bergmeister had

said “I cannot catch him in time” and Gavin had said “I won’t be able to hold him off.” Good stuff. Moving on: During the race broadcast they actually took a moment and did a segment on corner workers. Went to a corner and interviewed the workers. Talked about how no one raced until these folks were on station and ready to do their jobs. I sat and watched and thought about my limited experience doing that job over the last couple of years. I’m a novice and always feel like a deer in the headlights when something occurs on my corner, yet have been fortunate enough to always be on a corner with folks that know what to do.

continued from previous page I’ve witnessed roll-overs, monstrous crashes with no one hurt, mechanical failures, and drivers that simply were not watching the flag station for warnings. I ran with a 30 lb fire bottle for 50 yards to be ready when a car pulled over, smoking in a serious way. Worried over a driver that did not look up and wave acknowledgement to let us know he was OK after an incident. Yet to date the hardest physical work of being a corner worker for me has been track clean up after an incident. The worst I have experienced was at Texas World Speedway during a Corinthian Vintage Auto Racing (CVAR) event. A Formula Ford broke an oil line going into turn one. The FF has a large external oil tank (it is a dry sump system), and it did not run out of oil till turn 13! It was the final turn in the configuration being run. By

12

then the driver got an oil warning light and shut it down. What a mess. We ran out of oil absorbant (we call it “Kitty Litter”) multiple times. Track officials had to go offsite and buy more; it was a gigantic delay in

race activities. I was working turn 4 and we cleaned the asphalt all the way to 6, from the beginning of our corner all the way up the hill. A lot of pavement. The oil was clean and the pavement was hot. Tar was somewhat shiny and it was difficult to discern oil from hot tar spots at times. Pour the absorbant, scrub with a broom, and scatter the remains after pick up. Wait for sweeper equipment to go by. Did I say it was hot? Had to immediately get back on station, check in with control and be on point afterwards. Flag stations are filled with hard workers that love racing. They get involved in a very special way. Lend a hand and contribute to the event in a very important way—cars on course, here we go, get it together, pay attention, concentrate—drivers’ lives depend on a corner worker. It is interesting.

Autocross 4: Texas Motor Speedway Results compiled by Dean! Yamada

T

he fourth event in the Maverick Region Autocross Series took place on July 1 in the bus lot at Texas Motor Speedway. Autocrosses that we run at this location almost always have a large turnout, and this one was no exception. We had 67 drivers show up at this popular (but expensive) venue, many of them using it as a final practice for the Porsche Parade autocross. The smooth (some would say “slick”) surface of this large parking lot never fails to entertain both drivers and observers. In case you missed this one, you have another chance to autocross at Texas Motor Speedway this year: After being absent from the calendar for the last couple of years, our Charity Autocross returns to TMS on Sunday, December 2. In years past, this has been a “run what ya brung” event, where not all entries are serious autocross vehicles. It’s a great opportunity to see what your Porsche (or other vehicle) can do, without worrying whether it is competitive; it’s just for fun! The Charity Autocross is not part of our regular series, and points are not awarded. All proceeds go to Maverick Region’s charity, the Huffaker Hughes Hope House, a shelter for battered women and children. Meanwhile, there are three more events left in our regular Autocross series, which returns to Mineral Wells for the rest of the year. Autocrossing is a safe and fun way to explore the limits of your Porsche, and instructors are always available if you need or want one. And remember that our Time Trial series, which features multiple consecutive laps on a closed course, also has three events left, two at Mineral Wells and one on the 1.7-mile track at Motorsport Ranch. We hope you’ll come out and experience an Autocross or Time Trial soon!

Advertiser of the Month: Dallas Karting Complex By Linda Bambina, PR Chair

W

e’d like to introduce everyone to one of our newest Slipstream Advertisers, Kevin Adds. Besides being owner of DKC, the Dallas Karting Complex, he is an inventor, visionary, and all-around-amazing-dad to his Go-Karting-Kid, Nathan. Kevin and his son had been traveling all over the country going to Karting events, but couldn’t find exactly what they wanted or needed, so just about a year ago,

22

Kevin built a world class facility just 35 minutes east of Dallas instead. The road course is 8/10 mile long, has 17 turns over 16 acres, and if you go fast enough (60 mph!) you might turn in a time close to a minute and a half! His facility has 10,000 square feet for parties, meetings, and gatherings of all kinds. He has storage areas for your own Kart, or you can check out his claim of the “fastest rental karts in the USA.” These are the “shifter type” Go Karts he tried to explain to me. His website, www.DallasKartingComplex.com, has all the answers to your ques-

tions about where, when and how much. Plus there are some great photos of his shops and the people who make everything happen. Kevin is good friends with our Trivia Chair Jerry DeFeo, but doesn’t own a Porsche (yet!). Right now he’s having a pretty good time “experiencing the speed one inch off the ground” along with his 13-year-old son. If you drive out to visit the complex (just 10 minutes east of Joel and Erika Nannis’ home in Rockwall), or call the 972-2534100 number that he “forgets he has,” be sure to tell Kevin that you saw his ad in Slipstream!

Member Spotlight: Ramon Lopez By Lisa Steele, Membership Chair

T

his month our New Member Spotlight is on Ramon Lopez. Ramon’s gorgeous ride is a Grand Prix White ’91 964 Carrera 2 coupe. Ramon has owned the car for a little over a year now. It took him about 6 months of daily monitoring of 964 listings across multiple websites and forums. Finally, the right car appeared in El Paso, TX. He took a morning flight to El Paso and drove his Porsche home, arriving shortly before midnight. “It’s a trip I will never forget.” Since buying the car, Ramon has been in the garage getting his hands dirty maintaining and upgrading the 20-year-old sports

car. He has serviced all fluids, adjusted the valves, and done other work. Ramon says “It has kept me busy and learning.” Ramon grew up in a car family. His father has been an avid street rodder since the 60s, so as a child Ramon spent a bunch of time in the garage with his dad as he worked on his chopped top ’27 Ford Model T coupe and attending various gearhead events. Ramon also built and raced radio control cars when he was young. You may have seen Ramon and his 964 at some of our driving events; he has autocrossed with Maverick PCA, BMWCCA, Equipe Rapide, and the North Texas Autocross Series. Ramon says “driving the 964 at the limit has proved to have a very steep learning curve, but it has been very rewarding.”

Ramon and his wife Nadia are originally from Laredo, TX. They both moved to the DFW area to earn degrees in Accounting at University of North Texas. They reside in Carrollton and periodically visit their families in Laredo. Please join me in extending a warm Maverick WELCOME to Ramon and Nadia Lopez. If you are a new member and would like to be considered for our monthly “SPOTLIGHT” feature, please contact me at membership@mavpca.org.

July Happy Hour: Joe T. Garcia’s By Rick and Katie Schwausch

T

Photos by Charlie Davis

he dog days of summer in North Texas usually signal an end to al fresco dining, when diners retreat to the air-conditioned comfort of the indoors. Not so for the dedicated members of the Maverick Region who toughed it out on the patio at Joe T. Garcia’s for the July Happy Hour. Cooling fans and cold drinks provided some relief for the group of thirty or so, many of whom agreed that taking the summer off from track events is indeed a wise decision.

his new generation 991 Carrera S out on the track. Turns out, his wife loves his car so much that she decided she may need one as well.

In hindsight, we probably should have waited for one of the cooler months to attract our Fort Worth area members to attend a Happy Hour. Thanks to all of the attendees that made the trek from both near and far to attend the event. The more the merrier.

Another member, Denver, was excited to be able to attend the Happy Hour. He is usually traveling from one track to another to assist in setting up various race cars, from the Ferrari Challenge series, to Porsches of various series, to the “lowly” Formula Mazdas that he also helps wrench on. What a way to make a living!

Another attendee is looking forward to getting his uberpowered car back on the track in September after an extended “break” from the action. He ran into a few problems while upgrading his 996 Turbo.Try to spot it as the 800-hp blur goes flying by.

Speaking of track events, new PCA member Matt can’t wait to get Barbara and Ralph Kauffman maintained what I am sure is a perfect record of attendance. Summer trips to Europe and Hawaii have them on the go. It is always amazing to hear the stories and see the range of activities that our members participate 24

in. From the Sunday drives,to the national events, to the track rats out to improve their own personal driving skills and learn more about these awesome machines we call Porsche, it is truly amazing to learn more about our members. If you have not had a chance to attend a Happy Hour, come on out and hear for yourself some of these amazing stories. If I may end by quoting one of my favorite movie lines, “Porsche . . . there is no substitute.”

Buying and Owning a Porsche: A First-Timer’s Experience By Rick Robinson

I

t’s Por-Sha, once you own one. That’s what the salesman told us at Boardwalk Porsche when we purchased our Cayman. That was the first indication that we may have just made a hasty decision to buy a Porsche, and that it might be viewed as a bit extravagant. Not that it necessarily is, mind you, just the way that it could be viewed by others. After all, “there is no substitute.” As we closed on the car, I found myself saying over and over that “I am buying a car that I can’t drive! My clients can NOT see this car! My employees can NOT see this car. They’ll want a raise!” Perception IS people’s reality, after all.

The first person that I decided it was safe to share the news with was my eldest son Dan. After all, we had been “car guys” together as he grew up. I had owned many very nice cars that he shared my passion for. He had bought one of my 300ZXs, and his first car was a classic 1969 Mustang. So I decided, that’s it, I can call Dan in LA and tell him about the “Porsh,” excuse me, “Porsha.” He would understand and be excited for me. He answered the phone, and when I told him the great news, he replied “ YOU BOUGHT A (expletive deleted) PORSCHE?” “But Dan! It truly was about the cost of the Prius!” He repeated his response. Sigh. I just had confirmation of the reaction some may have to the news of our new sports car.

We bought the Porsche quite by accident. We were looking for a sports car again. We had decided on ordering a new car in the $40K range when I thought it would be wise to check and see just what $40K would buy first. A quick search of cars filtered to a few year models yielded a 2007 Cayman. WOW! We could own that gorgeous Porsche for less money! Who knew? But was it the right car for us? Any great car has to be the whole package. A driver spends most of his time behind the wheel of his car, and only a small amount of time walking up to it. It needs to sit right, be comfortable, and be enjoyable to drive. A car has to be more than looks.

TOWARD OWNERSHIP. A Merrill Lynch Financial Advisor can talk to you about the Loan Management Account® (LMA® account), a flexible line of credit from Bank of America, N.A., available through Merrill Lynch. It can offer you the liquidity you may need for your purchase while you keep your investment strategy on track. J.D. The Loan Management Account® (LMA® account) is provided by Bank of America, N.A., member FDIC. Equal Opportunity Lender. The LMA account requires a brokerage account at Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith Incorporated (MLPF&S) and sufficient eligible collateral to support a minimum credit facility size of $100,000. All securities are subject to credit approval and Bank of America, N.A., may change its collateral maintenance requirements at any time. Securities-based financing involves special risks and is not for everyone. When considering a securities-based loan, consideration should be given to individual requirements, portfolio composition and risk tolerance, as well as capital gains, portfolio performance expectations and investment time horizon. The securities or other assets in any collateral account may be sold to meet a collateral call without notice to the client, the client is not entitled to an extension of time on the collateral call, and the client is not entitled to choose which securities or other assets will be sold. The client can lose more funds than deposited in such collateral account. A complete description of the loan terms can be found within the LMA agreement. Clients should consult their own independent tax and legal advisors. Some restrictions may apply to purpose loans, and not all managed accounts are eligible as collateral. All applications for LMA accounts are subject to approval by Bank of America, N.A. For fixed-rate and term advances, principal payments made prior to the due date will be subject to a breakage fee. continued from page 25 We took a test drive and ended up buying the very Cayman at Boardwalk Porsche that popped up on the Internet search. We were fortunate to score the very enthusiastic Mark Laurenzi as our salesman. Mark took each of us out for a “spirited” test drive that demonstrated the Cayman perfectly and we were hooked. We bought our first Porsche, never having considered a Porsche before. We did so spur of the moment without the usual agonizing and research we normally would have done. I posted a thread on a Porsche-related chat board that the response to our purchase was a mixed bag at best. The responses ranged from dead silence, to those similar to my son’s. The thread exploded in twelve hours to ten pages long. The responses ranged along the lines of “I don’t care what anyone thinks” to “We just ordered our first Porsche

28

and my wife has already given me the list of people who can and can’t see it.” My personal favorite was “I hate it when my boss sees me driving the Porsche. (It) makes it difficult to whine about my salary.” Good to know I was not alone. The point of my story is this: there is a place to enjoy your vehicle among those who own Porsches and share your enthusiasm. Activities of all kinds and interests abound. You can partake of a few, or fill your calendar. We joined PCA to learn more about our purchase and to get the most out of owning the vehicle. We started reading about all of the activities in Slipstream. It took us a little while to “get out on the dance floor” so to speak, but we are so happy we did. Our first Maverick function was a Thursday evening social. We have already met many wonder-

ful, open and welcoming people. There are socials, rallies, Sunday drives, car shows, Autocross, and the list goes and on. We plan to register for the Driver Education events this fall. Did you know that you can visit the track without being registered for the event, or waiting for an “Intro to DE” drive to be scheduled? You can show up, watch, listen, and learn a lot about DEs. You can purchase a lunch at a low cost while there. And, for a small donation to the club charity, you can drive your car out on the track for several parade laps during the lunch break either day. We have driven the parade laps at both Eagles Canyon and Motorsport Ranch. They were more spirited, the time on the track was longer, and they were more fun than we imagined possible. A visit to the track during a DE gives you an excellent opportunity

to familiarize yourself with what a DE is all about and a chance to learn if you would be seriously interested in registering for one. I highly recommend seeing for yourself what they are all about.

So if you are one of the people we have already met, thank you so much for the time and effort that you put into the many activities and the club. We are having a blast! If you have not attended any of the

events yet, give it a try. You just might end up elevating your enjoyment of your incredible car to a whole new level.
