INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL
Celebrating International Day of the Girl 2022
Cummins Asia Pacific proudly supported International Day of the Girl 2022 (IDG 2022) events across the region.
The internationally recognised day was created by the United Nations in 2012 to celebrate the achievements and potential of girls around the world. The day aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face, while promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights. For Cummins, this year’s focus was to promote the awareness of STEM pathways for girls in all levels of education. Events ranged from a collaborative partnership between Cummins Powers Women (CPW) and the Women’s Empowerment Network (WE Network) to onsite tours with students. Different locations across the region engaged in various activities to celebrate STEM, Cummins and IDG 2022.

Cummins Sales and Service Philippines Inc (CSSPI) celebrated IDG 2022 by inviting Sisters of Mary Girls School to participate in its Industry Immersion Program, coordinated and led by WERG Leader, Shamlee Nahar. The Sisters of Mary Girls School is a long-term CSSPI partner, providing education opportunities for young women and orphans from disadvantaged communities across the Philippines. Twenty-eight mechatronic technology students participated in CSSPI’s four-hour program, held at Cummins Philippines branch on 13 October. Students were given an overview of Cummins products and services and a tour of the workshop. Each workshop station had assigned a technician to explain to students the processes involved. Workshop Advisor Jee Nueva Espana and former Technician Rose Lontoc presented about their experiences of working in traditionally male-dominated roles and how much they enjoy the experience. Senior Counsel Kate Teixeira and Kristina Lambkin, Corporate Responsibility and TEC Leader, also joined the program to speak to students about Cummins’ commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and Cummins Powers Women initiatives.
Students visit Cummins Mackay
To celebrate IDG 2022, Cummins Mackay invited six students from Mackay North High School to visit the branch and connect with staff about career experiences and industry opportunities. The visit aimed to inspire the young women to consider pathways to employment by providing the students with the chance to engage with Cummins staff one to one. Feedback from the school indicated that students found the visit
engaging and helpful. Thank you to the Cummins Mackay branch for facilitating the visit and to the Mackay North High School teachers for making it possible.
United Women Singapore STEM Festival
On 29 October, Cummins Singapore celebrated IDG 2022 by participating in the inaugural United Women of Singapore (UWS) STEM Festival. UWS is a non-profit organisation that advances women’s empowerment and gender equality. UWS is also a beneficiary of the Cummins’ Community Development Grant (CDG) program. A total of 665 visitors, including students, parents and educators, took part in the STEM Festival. Sixteen Cummins Singapore employees supported the next generation of female leaders by hosting several festival activities, including: • job readiness consults with students pursuing secondary to doctorate studies on skills such as resume preparation and tips on thriving while studying abroad to build their confidence • showcasing emerging areas of STEM within Cummins to promote awareness on how students can continue building their STEM competencies • providing an avenue for connections and networking opportunities between all participants, and • sharing experiences and building a supportive community with women exploring STEM pathways. Students found the Cummins-hosted activities engaging and helpful. It was also an opportunity for volunteers from UWS and other companies to network and connect.

Cummins sponsors NASCA workshops
As part of IDG 2022 celebrations, the National Aboriginal Sporting Chance Academy (NASCA) hosted several ‘out of the box’ workshops, sponsored by Cummins, to provide opportunities for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to investigate varied career pathways as they explore their self-determined futures.
NASCA works with young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to empower youths to: • improve school attendance and ultimately school performance • develop specific career pathways and work-ready skills • strengthen cultural pride and identity, and • build life skills, personal development and long-term resilience.
More than 120 young women participated in the engaging and inspiring workshops led by local Indigenous women and elders. Activities included dark-eye photography and inDigitech, a community of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are continuing a proud tradition of indigenous innovation and entrepreneurship in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Cummins is proud to partner with NASCA to provide engaging opportunities that support career pathways for young Indigenous women.
