During my 2nd year, I happened to tag on a trip along with my cousin and fell in love with the road. Having lived a sheltered life, the adventure of waking up in a new place, and the uncertainty of it, felt exciting. By the end of that trip, I knew I wanted to travel for the rest of my life.

As a student on a tight budget, I started finding ways to travel economically, and began travel vlogging. My family was supportive–they’d excitedly watch my vlogs. It drove me to hustle harder. While focusing on growing my channel, I also took up a job in an IT firm.

Over the years, between hitchhiking and sleeping on stations and park benches to staying in temples and gurudwaras, I explored over 18 states, and 3 countries.

I never minded traveling on a budget. But this year, after a 3-month-long road trip from Darjeeling to Tirupathi Balaji and then to Bhubaneswar, I was tired. I looked for trains–but the last-minute tickets were expensive. So my brother said, ‘Why don’t you take a flight instead? It’s cheaper right now.’ That’s how I, a guy who vlogs about traveling on a budget, ended up taking a flight to save money–my first ever!

Back at home, I kept narrating my experience to my family for days. I told them of the blue sky and the tiny houses beneath and it was as if they were living my adventure through me, telling me how proud they were. But I told them, ‘Abhi toh bahut kuch karna baki hai!’

Although I’m still a long way from being a successful travel vlogger and fully supporting my family, I’ve not stopped dreaming. As I continue to travel and grow my channel, I’ve started saving up for my family’s first flight.

I know it might take some time, but I won’t stop until it does. Because that’s the kind of man Papa has raised, and because I want to tell him, ‘Don’t worry, I got it from here!’”
