LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Friends,

Welcome to the 2018 LIMA International Licensing Awards Ceremony, where we come together once again to honor the best of licensing! We are toasting the future with this year’s Rising Stars winners, as well as the legendary careers of our Hall of Fame inductees Elias Fasja-Cohen and Brian Goldner, and of course this year’s LIMA Awards nominees. LIMA received a record-breaking 700 entries for this year’s Awards – more than double where our program was a mere three years ago. This is truly a testament to the growth of our industry, the breadth of its ingenuity and innovation, and the prestige of being recognized with a LIMA Licensing Award. With great care and difficulty, an industry committee pored through all the submitted materials to create a ballot of 132 nominees. Tonight, we award 21 LIMA trophies to those programs and products that were voted as our industry’s elite. Since joining LIMA 21 years ago, one of my primary missions has been to grow the business of licensing on a global level. Seeing the list of nominees tonight with entries from 16 countries affirms how far we have come as an industry and an Association. As I transition out of my role as President of LIMA, I am more certain than ever that the future of licensing will be filled with unbounded creativity and endless achievement from around the world. Congratulations to all of tonight’s nominees – and a special thank you to everyone in this room for all you do to make licensing the successful and dynamic industry it continues to be. CHARLES RIOTTO PRESIDENT LIMA

THE JUDGING PROCESS

13 Arriving at the Winners 2018_muk.qxp_Layout 1 02/05/2018 17:45 Page 13

THE AWARDS PROCESS The LIMA Awards are open to licensors, agents, licensees and retailers from around the world. The inclusive nature of the program means entrants do not have to be a member of the Association to participate. A dedicated Awards Committee consisting of trade press and retail executives serves as the judging panel for the product and program nominees. Their identities remain anonymous, but their collective experience and expertise span the entire industry. This year, we received a record 700 entries originating from 16 countries, with 42% coming from outside the United States. The submissions were reviewed by the Committee and a final line-up of 132 nominees was named across the 21 Award categories. Winners were then determined by a vote of the LIMA membership in April. In addition this year, for the first time, we also have the LIMA Community Choice Award with members of the licensing industry invited to vote for one of the 132 nominees they consider as the best example of licensing in 2018. LIMA COMMUNITY CHOICE AWARD - LIMA is excited to introduce the LIMA Community Choice Award. Every member of the licensing community was invited to vote for their choice for the best in licensing 2018. HALL OF FAME AWARDS - Our industry is filled with talented professionals who have made an impact in licensing throughout their careers. Induction into the LIMA Licensing Hall of Fame is a special recognition of those with outstanding achievements and true legacy. Each year, the entire industry is invited to recommend qualified candidates who have been actively involved in licensing for a minimum of 15 years and whose contributions have ongoing impact to the industry. Inductees are selected by the LIMA Board of Directors from the slate of industry recommendations.

ALL CHILDREN DESERVE TO RUN AND PLAY AND ENJOY THE SIMPLE PLEASURES OF BEING YOUNG…

HELP US HELP THE KIDS Through the generosity of the licensing industry, over $6.3 million has been raised for Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation since 2004. The donations made through advertisements in this Tribute Book, as well as our other fundraising activities, will all contribute to furthering CBTF’s good work.

LIMA CARES: THE CHILDREN’S BRAIN TUMOR TISSUE CONSORTIUM Roughly one-third of kids around the world who are diagnosed with cancerous brain tumors do not live beyond five years. It is the deadliest childhood cancer – yet research for this disease is one of the most underfunded. LIMA Cares continues to raise funds for the Children’s Brain Tumor Tissue Consortium (CBTTC), where doctors from 17 global

14

hospitals – led by a dedicated team at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia – are committed to finding a cure for the deadliest childhood cancer. LIMA is the only corporate sponsor of the Consortium. Without the generosity of the licensing community, the Consortium would simply be unable to expand and add more hospitals to the research team.
