THE GLoBAL REACH
LIMA IS EVERyWHERE LIMA has proudly eclipsed 1,100 member companies – half of which are now based outside the US. We have truly become a global organization, keeping pace with our industry as it expands internationally. In the last year alone we have furthered our own global reach in new and exciting ways. We opened LIMA offices in Canada and Mexico; held our first Latin American event in Bogota, Colombia; set new attendance records at events in China; and launched the inaugural Mind Mix program in Berlin this May, which will be staged in different countries in subsequent years. Now with offices in the US, UK, Mexico, Germany, Japan, China and Australia – as well as a network of representatives in the Middle East, India, Canada, Italy and Korea – LIMA is always on the go! Here we do a spot of globetrotting:

CHARITY GIVING
All children deserve to run and play and enjoy the simple pleasures of being young…
HELP KIDS BE KIDS Through the generosity of the licensing industry, over $5.4 million has been raised for Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation since 2004. This year, we are once again calling on our industry to “Help Kids Be Kids” – to support our efforts and help kids to enjoy a childhood full of life and free of cancer. Every dollar that our industry donates can help children of all ages, from all corners of the world. oughly one-third of kids diagnosed with cancerous brain tumors do not live beyond five years; those who do have a diminished quality of life with a multitude of side effects. LIMA is committed to raising funds in support of the Children’s Brain Tumor Tissue Consortium – a collaborative research effort by doctors working to change these statistics. Since 2015, three additional hospitals have
R
joined the Consortium making a total of seven institutions! Doctors are analyzing the collected brain tissue samples to find underlying causes of the cancer, test less invasive treatments, and improve the long-term outlook. Since the licensing community began funding the Consortium, tissue samples per patient have increased 500%! A lot of good work has been done, but there is a long way to go. Now is our chance to give more children real hope.
Where does the funding go? Brain tumors remain the deadliest childhood cancer, while research for this disease remains one of the most underfunded. There is no other endeavor out there like the Children’s Brain Tumor Tissue Consortium – and there is no other corporate sponsor for this invaluable research than LIMA and the licensing industry. It takes $75,000 for one hospital to participate in the Consortium for a year. That means the money that we have raised so far this year will enable five of the seven hospitals to continue their research. Do we need a more clear example of seeing our dollars at work?

“Always Our Leader” When Cheryl Stoebenau was inducted into the Licensing Hall of Fame last year, her walk out music was to the Foo Fighters’ "My Hero.” This song was selected because of the simple truth of its message. Cheryl was a hero to so many – to her friends and family, to the colleagues she worked with and mentored, and to the children of CBTF for whom she worked so tirelessly. Giving back was her mantra; using her resources to make a difference. To Cheryl, this was not something for which she sought praise – it was simply a matter of course. Danny is well known and respected as one of the licensing industry’s premier innovators. He forged the way for teen and adult licensing, thereby broadening entertainment licensing, and is also credited with developing the first-ever successful feature film from a video game with Mortal Kombat. Under his leadership, The Licensing Group has represented countless major feature films, global entertainment, lifestyle and corporate properties, as well as a number of manufacturers, developing programs and licensed merchandise that stand out from the crowd.

HALL OF FAME 2016
Despite heading up a busy company, Danny has always made time to give back to the industry. He has served multiple terms as a LIMA Board member and, in 1995, was made Chairman of the Board of Directors. However, one of his greatest contributions has been in the area of education. Danny co-developed and continues as Co-Dean of LIMA’s e Coursework in Licensing Studies program, and has co-authored three s. books on the subject of licensing, plus countless articles and columns. For 18 years he taught a course on licensing at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and still continues to lecture on the subject at other universities and law schools, as well as at seminars throughout the US and in over two dozen international markets. As a mentor and a colleague, he has taught so much to so many. Tonight we honor Danny Simon at his own ‘graduation’ into

LIMA BOARD
LIMA THANKS
One of LIMA’s strengths is its Board of Directors, who through their collective experience and individual perspectives, reflect the broad reach of the licensing industry. The occasion of the LIMA International Licensing Awards provides an ideal opportunity to pay tribute to the respected individuals who are completing their terms as LIMA Board Members and will step down on June 30, making way for others to continue their legacy. In addition to the five Directors who are stepping down, Rick Van Brimmer, the Chairman of the Board is also completing his term.
