Olivier, Katherine Hepburn and Maria Callas to name just a few of the many movie stars that are known to have stayed at this stunning hotel). It's why it makes the Savoy the perfect venue for the gift industry's most prestigious event, now in its 12th year, which celebrates the best gift retailers in the UK. It's a day of fine company, delicious food, great fun (thanks to our compere and comedian Sean Collins) and flowers - the theme of this year's event. Most importantly of all, is that the whole gift industry is here today fantastic gift retailers from right across the retail spectrum, as well as a myriad of leading gift supplier brands. We know it's going to be a 'blooming marvellous' event! The Greats team Sue Marks, Angie Bryant, Judy Stevens, Jakki Brown, Ian Hyder and Warren Lomax

A Huge ‘Thank You’ To Our Sponsors! The main feature of The Greats, is, of course, the awards ceremony itself. Each individual category is sponsored by an industry name - either a leading supplier or a trade show organiser. The Greats 2014 would not be possible without the support of these fantastic companies, and the Greats team would like to convey our sincere thanks to them for their involvement this year.

About The Savoy l 1246 Count Peter of Savoy built the Savoy Palace on land by the side of the river Thames, given to him by Henry III, whose wife was Count Peter’s niece. l 1889 After nearly five years of building, The Savoy opened on August 6, built by Richard D’Oyly Carte on land adjacent to his Savoy Theatre. The main restaurant was opened by noted hotelier Cesar Ritz, who later became general manager, and who installed an old friend, August Escoffier, 'king of chefs and chef of kings', in the Savoy kitchen.
Above: Three floral Charles Viancin bottle stoppers.
l 2007 The Savoy’s general manager Kiaran Macdonald rang a bell at midday on the December 15 in the Front Hall, and declared The Savoy officially closed for the first time in its 118 year history, in order to begin a complete restoration of the entire building. l 2010 On October 10, The Savoy finally re-opened to the public after what became a £220 million restoration project that took almost three years to complete. The opening was marked by the arrival in The Savoy’s own Rolls-Royce Phantom of the first guest to check in to the hotel after re-opening, the actor, writer and broadcaster Stephen Fry.
