Pet Lovers! April is National Pet First Aid Awareness Pet First Aid  Do

you know how and where to check your pet’s pulse rate? And why it's important?

 Would

you know what to do for your pets if they ever started choking?

 What

about if they got a nasty cut or had a bad reaction to a spider bite or bee sting?

Since April is National Pet First Aid Awareness month, I want to take this opportunity to highlight some important pet first aid resources for you. After all, knowing what to do — and what NOT to do — during an accident or emergency is important to your pet’s wellbeing.

First Aid Book and/or App: If you can’t or don’t want to take a Pet First Aid class, I recommend that you at least get yourself a good Pet First Aid book or smartphone app. Here are a few you can look into: o The First Aid Companion for Dogs & Cats (book) o The American Red Cross first aid manuals for Dogs and Cats (book) o The Pet Lover’s Guide to First Aid and Emergencies (book) o Pet First Aid app by The American Red Cross — iPhone and Android o PetTech Pet First Aid app 

 First

Aid Kit: Of course, knowing what to do and not do in an emergency setting is only half the battle, you’ll also need the tools to administer first aid! This is where a Pet First Aid kit comes in handy. There are plenty you can buy in stores and online — though their quality and safety can vary quite a bit (I once saw one in a store that had packets of ibuprofen in it — as I point out in this article, giving this common over-the-counter human pain reliever to cats or dogs can be VERY dangerous!). Fortunately you can easily, and relatively inexpensively, put together your own pet first aid kits  Know Where To Go: Many times injured pets will need “Second Aid” after you’ve administered First Aid. What’s “Second Aid,” you might ask? That’s the care that we vets and our teams will administer to sick and injured pets after you’ve provided them with your initial stabilizing care. And since many accidents, injuries, and illnesses happen during “non-business hours,” it’s a good idea to know where your nearest Animal ER is, both when you’re traveling and when you’re at home.

All the world’s a stage Middle School Exploratory Drama This semester, the 7th graders learned everything about the art of improvisation. They learned the rules, techniques, what to do and what not to do, and most importantly, to have fun while doing it. We did a lot of improve games together, which helped them feel more comfortable onstage, and they truly became experts in improve. Their final project was to improvise a scene from a stimulus. Their stimulus was a picture from a famous painter. The first time they got their pictures, they had 5 minutes to think come up with an idea, and then improvise a scene that explain their picture in some way. After that improvised scene, they had a couple of classes to write it down as a script, with dialogue, stage directions, props and set designs. Then they rehearsed and finally performed them. The end result was amazing! I am so proud of you 7th grade! High School Drama Production This semester, the High School drama classes are learning everything about technical theatre. They chose a topic of interest and then did a research project on it. They also received a complete training on how to use the

equipment on the booth, and even got to up to the catwalk. That was a great experience! Now, they are working on all the technical aspects for the Middle School play: Treasure Island. The students are going to be designing everything: from lights and sound, to costumes and make-up, and set and prop designs. We are also working together with the Technology class to design some props and 3D print them! It is an amazing project! The best part of it is that the students will see an end result of all their hard work: the presentation of the play. Thank you students for the enthusiasm and the passion you have been putting in every class and into the Play!

Congratulations!
