LANE CLOSURE ON RIVERSIDE AVENUE BETWEEN FOOTHILL BOULEVARD AND BASELINE ROAD BEGINNING MONDAY, JUNE 20
WHEN: Beginning as early as Monday, June 20, crews will close one outside lane in each direction on Riverside Avenue, between Foothill Boulevard and Baseline Road. One inside lane in each direction will remain open at all times. Traffic delays are expected. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time to reach your destination or use alternate routes if possible.
Lane Closure Map
WHAT: This temporary lane closure will remain in place for approximately four to six weeks, as crews begin work to replace the pavement as part of the Riverside Avenue North Street Reconstruction Project. Work will include pavement grinding, concrete demolition and removal. At times work throughout the area may be loud or cause dust and vibration. Driveway access for residents along this portion of Riverside Avenue may be restricted during work hours, Mondays through Fridays, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Residents will be notified in advance if their driveway access will be affected. Please note, all construction is dynamic and this schedule is weather-permitting and subject to change.
ABOUT THE PROJECT: The City of Rialto is reconstructing and repaving Riverside Avenue between Galway Street and Foothill Boulevard. In addition to reconstructing Riverside Avenue, the project includes new ADA accessible curb ramps and cross gutters at intersections and construction of a raised concrete median on Easton Street, east of Riverside Avenue. Construction began in February 2022 and will be underway for approximately nine months; this schedule subject to change. For more information and to sign up for construction alerts, visit yourrialto.com/RiversideAveNorth or text RiversideAveNorth to 844-939-2534 to sign up for text alerts.

Washington, D.C., Capitol Hill Update HOUSE PASSES GUN CONTROL ACT IN SEVEN PARTS
SENATE MOVES FORWARD WITH BURN PIT COMPROMISE BILL
H.R. 7910, the Protecting Our Kids Act, passed the House on June 8th. As part of the Democratic legislative strategy to pass gun safety control, the bill was split into seven discrete proposals for voting purposes. The proposals ranged from raising the minimum age to 21 for the purchase of certain semiautomatic firearms to establishing new frameworks for regulations. All seven proposals passed the House on a mostly party-line vote. The bill is now pending in the Senate. No further legislative action is expected on the measure in the face of fierce opposition by most, if not all, GOP senators.
H.R. 3967, the Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act of 2021, passed the House in March of this year. The bill is currently under discussion in the Senate and on June 7th, passed an initial cloture vote to proceed to discussion and amendments. The bill, as currently drafted, would create a presumption that certain illnesses that veterans contract are a direct result of their military service and that compensation and other benefits needed to address those illnesses are “mandatory” in the federal budget. If the bill is enacted, veterans’ health care services will no longer require congressional appropriation for funding. The funding will be retitled as “appropriated entitlement” and be treated like Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The bill is expected to pass the Senate and be signed into law.
RED FLAG BILL PASSES HOUSE The Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act of 2022, H.R. 2377, passed the House on June 9th. The bill establishes a path for seeking a federal order of protection with respect to an individual who poses a risk to themselves or others. The bill would allow for the seizure of current firearms and the prohibition of firearm purchases of individuals. Similar bills have been enacted at the state level in 19 states including Florida, California and Connecticut. The bill has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee. UNITED STATES-UNITED KINGDOM TRADE CHANGES An agreement reached in March of 2022 between the U.S. and the United Kingdom over trade regulation of steel and aluminum made in the United Kingdom took effect on June 1st. The deal converts Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum to duty-free quotas as long as the volumes of these imports do not exceed preset levels.
WATER PROJECTS BILL IN THE SENATE H.R. 7776, the Water Resources Development Act of 2022, passed the House on June 8th with bipartisan support. The bill would authorize 72 new feasibility studies on Army Corps of Engineer projects, 8 studies on modifying existing projects and would authorize funding for construction on 16 currently pending projects. The Senate version of the bill, S. 4136 was approved by the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on May 4th.
