CANADA’S HOSPITALITY & TOURISM INDUSTRY MAKES A GLOBAL BOUNCE BACK

Canada’s Hospitality & Tourism Industry has made a global bounce back from the Global crisis after years of recovery. It is a fact that one of the pillars of the economy is the hospitality & Tourism sector. Canada has huge dependencies on the Hospitality & Tourism sector, which has been a fact in terms of the statistics, i.e. the revenues generated.

The country is a dynamic multicultural atmosphere that will definitely & surely make you feel at home. Canada offers world-class hospitality and a balanced mix of traditional & progressive cultures that radiates across the country.

Leading the list of many nations that are advancing fast in terms of rich tourism values. These values depend on many things in the Hospitality & Tourism Sector in Canada.

THE PRE-PANDEMIC INDUSTRY NUMBERS:

In terms of the Pre-pandemic industry numbers, the tourism industry generated an estimated $105 billion in Tourism expenditures and offered a huge contribution of an estimated $44 billion in the country’s GDP, i.e. Gross Domestic Product in the year 2019. The year of the pandemic, although in most parts of the world, it was officially declared in March 2020. In Canada, although the impacts in terms of deaths were lesser, they started in the year 2019. However, its effects on the Tourism sector from abroad affected the hospitality & Tourism Industry to a much deeper extent. These are stats according to Destination Canada, a Tourism Industry organization which is for the sake of promoting & maintaining Tourism in Canada to increase the number of Tourists coming to Canada on an annual basis. Approximately 34 Million international Trips to the country were made official in the same year.

EFFECTS OF THE PANDEMIC ON THE HOSPITALITY & TOURISM SECTOR IN CANADA:

The hospitality sector in Canada is deeply linked with the Tourism industry for some ironic reasons. Like Europe, North America is blessed with the values of natural beauty. A reason that attracts the annual figures is to generate revenues dedicated to the Tourism Industry. A reason which is indeed one of the most valid ones. Secondly, the exhibitions & conferences are taking place in Canada on an annual basis for the sake of promotions and increasing the values that relate to the Tourism sector.

The effects were seen globally, but in Canada, according to Statistics Canada, the effects were more obvious in terms of the number of jobs that were lost. In just 2020, the job losses that the Tourism sector faced increased to almost 30.5% annually. Due to the lockdown that was announced earlier in the year 2020, there were many people whose movements were restricted by the effects of the pandemic & the most obvious effect being the national-level lockdown that took place as an announcement earlier in the year. Canada and the rest of the world struggled to keep up with the sudden adjustments.

Apart from the job losses in the Tourism Industry, the merged sectors were also deeply affected, which includes the losses the Airlines faced as well as the hotel & hospitality sector that lost the key influences for almost a couple of years.

HOW WAS CANADA ABLE TO MAKE A GLOBAL BOUNCE BACK?

With the ease in the restrictions, that was found to gradually increase. A huge increase was seen in Canadians' confidence levels in 2022, which has moved forward to 2023. This is an improvement as compared to the shakiness in the confidence levels that were caused due to the fluctuations because of the pandemic.

Canada’s bounce back owes strictly to following the laws that are mainly termed the laws of the pandemic. These are related to social gatherings, social distancing laws being followed, wearing masks regularly & later on regards to being vaccinated Post-pandemic.

The slow process that the Govt. of Canada adopted in their 13 Provinces & Territories simply to bounce back to their original numbers is just amazing to see as a recovery mode in Canada. It calls for one of the best recoveries in a crisis that was declared a Global crisis. A scenario that was alarming in terms of the results all over the world & declared by Canada as a national crisis that Canada needed to fight back against.

The role of the leadership, i.e. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau & all the relevant Premier of their Provinces, which included Doug Ford (Premier-Ontario) in the bounce-back process, owes plenty to the efforts of the Canadian Govt. i.e. both Federal & Provincial. A major step by the Govt. of Canada includes the allocation of up to $72 million for the sake of supporting the industry through the sectoral incentives program, also known as SIP. This is an initiative that aims to strengthen the hospitality & Tourism workforce across all kinds of people.

Canada is a far more secure country in 2023, especially in terms of the Tourism & Hospitality Industry due to a fast recovery rate. A bounce back was expected, but not as fast as it was achieved with the help of public awareness & Govt. efforts to improve things on a far more rapid basis. Canada’s immigration sector has also played a decent role that is high in terms of reducing the impacts of the pandemic on global Tourism in Canada.
