New tech may make your company’s services more accessible to customers, but it requires business leaders to think intentionally about how to convey brand messaging. Local digital marketing experts believe that 2024 will bring a mix of customer-focused experiences and technological integrations.

KARISA MALCHOW VICE PRESIDENT OF CLIENT SERVICES, OBI CREATIVE

#1: Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence is a hot topic in industries across the board. As it continues to advance, marketers are figuring out how it can be used ethically and effectively. “To avoid problems, brands are using [AI] to check if the stuff they

MIDLANDS BUSINESS JOURNAL

In the fast-changing digital world, it’s not enough to just follow trends. You need to understand them and be ready to try new things. KARISA MALCHOW, VICE PRESIDENT OF CLIENT SERVICES, OBI CREATIVE

put out is real,” said Karisa Malchow, vice president of client services at OBI Creative. “They’re also using content made by users to keep things legit. When used right, AI can be timesaving for staff, better utilizing the time and resources to agency and in-house creative talent for more strategic endeavours.” Aaron Mackel, digital strategy director for Hurrdat concurred. “Businesses will need to find a rhythm and incorporate AI in a way that supports employees and helps them be more efficient, he said. “More and more businesses will be adopting AI and finding ways to save time and money in 2024. “I also think we must look at how generative AI such as Google SGE (search generative experience) will impact search in the future. The way people find the right businesses or products for their needs could see a massive shift over the next year or several years. Traditional SEO (search engine optimization), local SEO, search ads, and more could all be impacted by generative AI in search. With all of this being so new, being attentive is one of the top priorities right now.”

“With cookies coming to an end and continued fragmentation across the digital landscape, opt-in information like email addresses, phone numbers, and IP addresses will be the lifeblood of digital marketers,” he said. “This data will allow marketers to reach their core audience and grow with lookalike targeting.”

#2:Targeted SEO

When customers look for a business, chances are, they pull out their phones or laptops and search online for it. Ensuring your business is visible on search engines is critical. “SEO should be a priority every year,” said Ryan Pankoke, president of Blueprint Ad Agency. “I think any good business should ask themselves how potential customers would find them … Google is today’s phone book and how most people will find out. “If you search for a few key terms that you think your potential customer would be searching for, see where you show up at. Are you on page one, two or three? How far down the list are you willing to be? Not only that but what are your Google reviews? Are they good? How many of them do you have?”

#3: Short-Form Video Content

Website users – especially those on social media – are looking for short, digestible and engaging content that gives them what they want quickly. Creating content that not just captures the user’s attention, but spurs action, is important. “Short-form video content will continue to dominate social media,” Mackel said. “Audiences have been trained to consume short-form video content. For businesses utilizing social media in 2024 and looking to their social content to deliver visibility, investing in this type of content using TikTok, Instagram reels, and YouTube shorts will be essential.” Tyler Catania, chief operating officer at Constellation Collective, said that a message needs to be ‘snackable.’ “From emails and websites to video content and podcasts, the ability to get your point across in lightning speed is essential to success,” he said.

#4: First-party Data

Catania said that businesses should emphasize the collection and utilization of first-party data.

#5: Augmented Reality

Creating unique, memorable customer experiences is becoming one of the best and most popular ways to connect people with brands. “The marketing realm is witnessing a revolution with the infusion of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) into campaigns,” Malchow said. “Brands are leveraging these technologies to offer consumers immersive and interactive experiences, whether through virtual try-ons, product demonstrations, or virtual showrooms.”

Having a Strategy is Key

No two years of business are ever the same. That’s why it is imperative to closely examine marketing and advertising plans yearly. Examining what worked and what could be improved upon in the upcoming year is part of being adaptable. “Advertising is all about return on investment (ROI) and you should always be examining how things performed,” Pankoke said. “How was the ROI for each campaign and what performed the best?

“What new products are on the market? Is there new competition in the market? These are all questions a business owner should ask themselves every single year. We even have money set aside each year where we typically like to spend 10% of an advertising budget strictly on new things they have never tried before. Testing out new things is always smart.” Malchow noted that revamping a marketing plan means taking a thorough look at the strategies in place and adjusting them to match both business goals and what’s happening in the market. “In the fast-changing digital world, it’s not enough to just follow trends,” she said. “You need to understand them and be ready to try new things. “Being a business that learns from trends and is open to trying new ideas is key to staying strong and successful in the always-changing digital world. Keep checking how well your strategies are working, see the results, and don’t be afraid to tweak things … if your heart is in the right place, and you keep your customers (which includes your employees first) in mind, you’re on the path to success. It’s like having a winning recipe that everyone loves.”

Resilience in Words

AUTHOR q & a

A PLANNER THAT INSPIRES LOCAL MARKETING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS GURU JOSEFINA LOZA TEAMED UP WITH DESIGNER OLABANJI STEPHEN TO CREATE A PLANNER FOCUSED ON PERSONAL GROWTH. THE BOOK, RESILIENCE IN WORDS, IS AVAILABLE NOW.

JOSEFINA LOZA FOUNDER, LOZAFINA MARKETING & PUBLIC RELATIONS Q. What was the inspiration for the planner? A. The inspiration for this planner stems from my own journey of overcoming personal and professional challenges. I’m a longtime journalist-turnedpublic relations-professional, who has written for the Omaha World-Herald, Huffington Post, Associated Press, and Colorado Springs Gazette, just to name a few. Throughout my life, I faced hurdles like divorce, single motherhood, adversity in the workplace, anxiety and depression. During these times, I found solace and strength in writing down a compilation of motivational quotes and reflections scrawled on sticky notes throughout my home. These notes were more than just words; they became a daily ritual that helped me stay focused, organized, and resilient. During periods of personal challenges, particularly when coping with mental health concerns like anxiety or depression, the simplest daily activities can become daunting. Recognizing this, Olabanji and I have developed a system that simplifies tasks to their core, making them manageable even on the toughest days. The Resilience in Words system is designed to be intuitively easy to use, ensuring that essential tasks, such as writing end-of-year reports for clients, can be accomplished with minimal stress. Our goal is to provide a solution that is so straightforward, it feels naturally integrated into your daily routine, removing any barriers to productivity. I wanted to share this powerful tool with others, hence the creation of the planner. It’s designed to offer the same sense of direction and hope that I found during my most challenging moments.

JOSEFINA LOZA, FOUNDER, LOZAFINA MARKETING & PUBLIC RELATIONS

Q. What makes this planner unique? A. What sets this planner apart is its blend of practicality and inspiration. Each page is thoughtfully designed by Olabanji Stephen, turning it into a visual and emotional journey rather than just a scheduling tool. The planner includes quotes, which are not just motivational sayings but life-tested insights. It’s structured to encourage users to not only plan their day-to-day tasks but also to reflect on their personal growth and mental resilience. This holistic approach makes it more than a planner; it’s a guide for living a more organized, purposeful, and positive life. Q. What advice would you give to someone purchasing this planner? A. To anyone purchasing this planner, I’d say: Use it not just to organize your tasks but to reflect on your daily journey. Write down your thoughts, your challenges, and your victories. Let the quotes inspire you, but also find your own voice and wisdom as you navigate through your days. Remember, resilience is built day by day, and this planner is a tool to help you cultivate that strength. Q. Where can someone purchase this planner? Do you plan to create other installments? A. The planner is available for purchase on our official website, www. lozafina.com, as well as on Amazon. We’re currently in discussions with select online and physical bookstores to make sure it’s more accessible. Regarding future installments, we are certainly doing so. The positive feedback has been overwhelming, and we see a lot of potential in expanding this concept to cover more aspects of resilience and personal growth.

OLABANJI STEPHEN, CREATIVE VISUAL DIRECTOR, LOZAFINA

OLABANJI STEPHEN LOZAFINA CREATIVE VISUAL DIRECTOR Q. How would you describe this planner’s “vibe.” A. I would call it a daily achievement companion. Something to keep you unstuck and focused. It’s easy to cart and use. Q. At first glance, the planner looks fairly minimalist in design. Was that intentional and why or why not? A. Yes it’s intentional. Planning should not be a chore in itself. The idea of planning is to solve ‘chores,’ help achieve our goals and make our lives easier. If the work of planning itself is a chore, then, it makes everything worse, not better. So we kept it minimal, fun, and easy so it’s enabling rather than crippling.

Q. What do you hope users will get out of this planner? A. We hope that this tool primes people for success no matter how small or big their goals are. We want people to move from inconsistent or total inaction to consistent, joyful, unburdened, and fulfilled. The three components of this tool are exactly what they need to do that. Get firepower from the inspiration. Declutter and keep positive mental health with the journal. Get unstuck and crush your goals with the planner.

ELEVATING YEAR-ROUND PHILANTHROPY A CALL TO ACTION FOR SUSTAINABLE GIVING BY JOSH PLANOS

BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU OF THE MIDWEST PLAINS Address: 11811 P St, Omaha, NE 68137 Phone: 402-391-7612 Website: www.bbbinc.org Social Media: @BBBMidwestPlains

Thousands of Nebraskans — and the millions more they serve — woke up this morning in need of your help. Unlike the past few months, they didn’t have the marketing budget allure, imminent tax incentives, or the holiday spirit to fuel solicitations. They hope you recognize that charitable giving is not a transient, blink-and-you-miss-it proposition; it’s a year-round emergency. With a new calendar to navigate, there’s no shortage of considerations for business owners to evaluate. Key performance indicators (KPIs), financial forecasting, tax preparation. Let’s make one a simple reality: charitable organizations operate year-round. “To the best of our knowledge, there are more than 10,000 active tax-exempt organizations operating in Nebraska,” said Jim Hegarty, BBB Midwest Plains President & CEO. “These organizations have pressing needs that span all four seasons and the vital support they provide extends beyond the traditional peak months of giving. November and December collectively garner some 35% of annual contributions. Support is needed throughout the calendar.” From grants expiring in March to essential programming commencing in April, salaries to meet in May, and mouths to feed in June, the demands on these organizations persist throughout the year. Since President Eisenhower formally initiated workplace giving in 1956, a historical trend has emerged, with a predominant concentration of charitable contributions occurring in the latter part of the year. Increasingly it seems that these campaigns are compressed into a handful of weeks between the holiday festivities. Most charities function as year-round operations, necessitating sustained support, both in terms of donations and volunteer assistance. Encouragingly, each of us can play a pivotal role in fostering a culture of sustained giving by considering becoming

sustaining (monthly) contributors or dedicating days throughout the year to volunteer collectively, ensuring that the spirit of giving transcends temporal boundaries. The desire for a service-minded ethos stands out among Generation Z, according to numerous studies. As evidenced by scholarship recipients like Matea Gordon, the next generation of employees actively seeks out organizations that prioritize social impact. As a business owner, aligning with this desire not only resonates positively with prospective employees but also reinforces a commitment to corporate social responsibility. For those interested in supporting a community organization but faced with the dilemma of choice or seeking additional information, a valuable resource is available. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) offers Give.org, a comprehensive website dedicated to evaluating nonprofits. Upheld by the BBB’s Wise Giving Alliance, this platform assesses thousands of charities against 20 Standards for Charity Accountability. These standards encompass governance, oversight, effectiveness of service, financial practices, and solicitation methods, offering prospective donors a transparent view into an organization’s impact and practices. “The communities we serve — and the businesses that operate in them — are remarkably charitable,” said Hegarty. “Our community should take great pride in that.” Let’s collectively elevate philanthropy beyond a seasonal surge. By recognizing and addressing the year-round needs of charitable organizations, businesses and individuals alike have the power to make a sustained, positive impact on the communities they serve. Through ongoing support, both financial and through volunteerism, we can ensure that the spirit of giving remains vibrant and impactful throughout the entire year.

BBB STUDENT OF INTEGRITY SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT What does Integrity mean to you? Integrity means making good choices that are honest and fair, and represent good moral character. When joining the workforce, what are your expectations for an employer/organization? I would like an environment where employees are valued for their contributions and have a voice to share their ideas. What are the most significant aspects of a prospective company to you and why would you be interested in working for a specific organization? I want a culture that is inviting for employees and service-minded for customers. I would like the opportunity to utilize and grow my skills and be compensated for my efforts. As a new individual in my career field, I would be seeking mentors who engage with and challenge me. I would like some in-person work for the opportunity to collaborate and learn from others. STUDENT: MATEA GORDON CURRENTLY STUDYING AT: SOUTH DAKOTA STATE UNIVERSITY MAJOR: BUSINESS ECONOMICS ANTICIPATED GRADUATION DATE: 2026

As an SOI recipient, how has the scholarship helped you with your educational journey? My scholarship has allowed me to focus on my academics and enjoy learning with a little less financial stress.

The following are some guidelines to consider when posting legal notices with the Midlands Business Journal: 1. Submit a written notice in either Microsoft Word or as a PDF document either through mbj.com or through the Legal Department at legals@ mbj.com. For trade names, submit a copy of approved (bar code in upper right hand corner) Application For Registration of Trade Name from the Secretary of State to the same email address. Please include your billing address and the desired duration you’d like your notice to run (trade names run for only one week). As a publisher and not a legal advisor we print notices exactly as they are submitted and therefor only comp reruns when the notice was rejected or messed up due to a MBJ error. All companies submitting notices are responsible for ensuring the content fits with the State’s requirements and are responsible for the cost of republishing the notice if it is rejected due to misinformation or missing information 2. You will receive a confirmation and price quote. Legal notices, except for trade names, are charged per line. The flat fee for a trade name is $50. Payment is now credit or debit card. 3. Deadline is 5 p.m. on Monday for a notice to start publishing that Friday. 4. All costs include fees to file the notice with the Secretary of State and/or any appropriate courts. 5. Invoices must be paid prior to publication.
