My Point of View SEASON OF CHANGE
Dear Readers, 2021 marks the 20th anniversary of the Midlands Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 awards, which is presented this year by Northwest Bank. Over the years, MBJ has honored both up-and-coming and accomplished young professionals under the age of 40 in the Omaha metro business community. Midlands Business Journal was founded by my father in 1975. His desire was to publish a weekly business newspaper covering local business news and entrepreneurship. In 2002 he created an awards event honoring 40 young professionals under the age of 40. Since then, MBJ has recognized 800 YPs and, beginning in 2006, a special award has been given to the Entrepreneur of the Year. This year we are honored to recognize Brett Boyer, founder of Center Sphere, as our Entrepreneur of the Year. We have added a new category, Game Changer of the Year, which will be awarded to Rachel Fox, speaker, entrepreneur and founder of the nonprofit You Go Girl. Over the past 20 years, all of the honorees have excelled in their careers as well as made great contributions to the community. The Omaha metro is an extraordinary place to live. The creative talent and determination that I witness in the young professional population along with their generosity of spirit is why I am so proud to call this home. The past couple of years have created challenges for all of us but also incredible opportunities for growth and innovation, and that is what I see in the group we are honoring this year. As you read about these individuals in the pages ahead, ask yourself, “What else is possible?” They are leading the way to the future and breaking barriers that will create even more. We are excited to be back at the Embassy Suites La Vista for an awards luncheon on Friday, February 4th. In honor of my father, we will be giving out the first Robert G. Hoig Scholarship. It’s going to be a very special day. From where I sit, the future looks bright! And keep asking, “What else is possible?” - Andrea “Andee” Hoig

Northwest Bank
MARKS 20TH YEAR AS 40 UNDER 40 SPONSOR BY DAVID KUBICEK Northwest has been a sponsor of 40 Under 40 since the program began 20 years ago. That was when the bank was fewer than three years old itself. In 1998, John Bothof — the bank’s current president — joined with Neal and Dwight Conover, owners of Northwest Bank in Spencer, Iowa, to open Gateway Community Bank in a double-wide trailer at 144th and Arbor streets in Omaha. Mike Eck joined as a founding partner in January 1999. They rented the trailer from an organization that rents bank-like facilities. The double-wide, remodeled with a teller line and offices, served as the bank’s home for the first year while its 144th Street headquarters was under construction. The organization, which took the Northwest Bank name in 2009, has grown to more than $2 billion in assets today and has three Omaha locations. “Bob Hoig came to us and gave us the opportunity to be a sponsor,” Bothof said of the late Midlands Business Journal founder. “At that time the focus was on business startups and [small business owners], and it just fit our niche as a community bank and lender to owner-operated businesses. It was a good message for us. The focus [of 40 Under 40] has moved toward professionals under 40 who perform at a high level who are nominated by their peers. We’ve felt all along that those are the people who are future leaders.” As 40 Under 40 grew and became a recognizable event in Omaha, it put Northwest Bank on the map. “We became relevant, you might say, because all of a sudden people realized that we were participating in the community,” Bothof said. “We were recognizing businesses, entrepreneurs, and professionals in the community. “I’ve seen some wonderful people and some wonderful successes go across that stage in the past 20 years. I anticipate that this program will continue to recognize future leaders of Omaha, and it’s been a real pleasure and an honor to be part of the program since its inception. I think it’s one of the community’s great ways to recognize young professionals and high performers.” This year for the first time in the program’s history, one of Northwest Bank’s employees, Kelly Grefe, won a 40 Under 40 award. Being a sponsor, the bank has never nominated its own people because of the perceived conflict of interest. “[Grefe] was recognized by his peer,” Bothof said. “We are happy that he is getting the award this year. If you own or run an organization, no one person can do it by themself. They have to be surrounded by great people, and that’s who we recognize at the 40 Under 40. I think it’s a real honor. I have several of them that work for me that have helped grow this bank locally.” Northwest’s support for young professionals goes beyond 40 Under 40. “We encourage them to become involved in organizations they find an interest in, like young professionals groups and networking groups,” Bothof said. “We encourage our people to participate in community activities as well.” Four years ago, Northwest started a management trainee program for people interested in banking. Since 2017 the bank has hired 10 young college graduates and taught them banking. They learn every function within a bank, including customer service, commercial banking, portfolio management, mortgage lending, operations, compliance and audit, commercial analysis, internal loan reviews, and human resources. “They go through all of those departments over a 12- to 18-month period,” Bothof said. “Our promise to them is that we will give them a job

at the end of the program [although] we don’t guarantee that it will be in any particular area. When we introduced this program they asked me to mentor those people, so I had an opportunity to mentor and get them through the program over the past four years. Nine of the 10 who [ started the program] are still with us. One left to go into Creighton Law. It’s been a lot of fun.” Bothof grew up in Minnesota. After graduating from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa, with an education degree, he taught school and coached. He entered the banking industry in Storm Lake in 1978, and in 1981 he and his wife moved to Omaha so he could take business and finance classes from University of Nebrask at Omaha while working at Commercial Federal. In 1987 Bothof was recruited to the west coast where he spent the next five years. A community bank recruited him back to Omaha in 1992. “I left there to start a community bank in 1998,” Bothof said. “I met the Conovers, and we built a business plan. It’s been a great 23 and a half years. They’re a great organization that has an excellent culture and values the human resource. It’s been a real pleasure to be part of their organization.”

Brett Boyer ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR
BY DWAIN HEBDA
Brett Boyer founded Center Sphere on the notion there’s a difference between networking and relationships. Rapid expansion and 10 times growth in five years shows he’s on to something. From a very young age, Brett Boyer has known the value of relationships. Raised in Mullen, Nebraska, population 500-ish, he grew up in an environment where everyone knew and looked out for everyone else. Then, in his teens, a funny thing happened on the outskirts of town that cemented his understanding of relationship-building as a central component of success. “In ‘95 I was 14 and Sand Hills Golf Club was built. It changed my life,” he said. “I was able to meet billionaires, famous people, all sort of things as a caddy out there. It changed my perspective on what was possible.” Inspired by the successful golfers who came from everywhere to play the now-world-famous course, Boyer earned a full-ride scholarship from the Western Golf Association to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he’d major in finance and plot multiple side hustles along the way.
The Beginnings
Center Sphere, founded in 2010, was one of those businesses, providing a digital means for developing relationships. Boyer winces at the word networking, because the relationship model at the company’s core works at a deeper level. “I believe God made us all for relationship and in today’s world, with social media and everything else, we don’t really get to know a person,” he said. “A lot of networking companies out there just focus on building your business. We took the opposite approach on the belief - BRETT BOYER, FOUNDER, CENTER SPHERE that people are going to do business with who they like and trust. We try to teach people to focus on building that relationship and the business comes from that.” Using a subscription model — membership runs about $30 per month — individuals connect with other members and begin the process of relationship-building under the coordination of strategically placed coordinators. Boyer said the typical member is a small business owner or salesperson 40 to 47 years of age, but selling is just one small part of what’s available. “Basically, Center Sphere is giving people a platform to, what we call ‘allow people to adult,’” he said. “We call it The Hub, a back-end dashboard people converse on and trade business and whatnot. We don’t make anybody do anything; we offer this wide variety of everything, but you pick and choose what’s best for you. We really try to make it all-inclusive because we have so many different avenues that people can pick and choose what they want to do. “Some people join to be a part of something bigger than themselves. They don’t have an agenda, they don’t need to build a business, they just want to meet great people and be a part of philanthropic effort. Others need to make that sale tomorrow to keep the lights on.”
Expanding Reach
In the five years since Boyer took over the venture full-time, Center Sphere has grown to operations in 22 states, four paid staffers at Omaha headquarters and a dozen market coordinators who manage membership within different areas as independent contractors. The firm expects more growth with the release of its app in early 2022. Not surprisingly, COVID-19 has factored considerably into company growth as in-person events fell by the wayside. “Well, we thought we were doing the right thing all along, and then we found out we were,” Boyer said of COVID’s impact. “Since then, we’re allowing people to meet in person if they feel comfortable, or online if they don’t. We still have people who don’t want to meet in person, and that’s fine.” Boyer’s description of Center Sphere may sound a little touchy-feely, but the founder also notes it’s very effective in developing new business leads as an efficient alternative to traditional networking strategies. “Business cards and all that, I say leave them at home. I can’t remember the last time I was at a networking event and I took a business card home. I’m just being honest,” he said. “Business is transactional; no matter how you look at it, it’s transactional, it’s one and done. But if you have a relationship, you will continue to do business with that person or refer them business. “In order to build a long-standing business relationship. Any time you have that and can possibly buy from or use somebody you know, like and trust, you’re going to them first.” Boyer said he’s grateful for the ride thus far – now including Midlands Business Journal’s 2021 Entrepreneur of the Year honors, which he called, “amazing, the coolest, a great honor” — and he’s looking forward to the good yet to be done through the company. “Center Sphere fills a lot of buckets for me,” he said. “I enjoy consulting, especially small business, and this allows me to build a platform that helps a lot of people. I couldn’t help thousands of small businesses by myself, but this allows me to do that.”

Rachel Denise Fox GAME CHANGER OF THE YEAR
BY MICHELLE LEACH
It comes as a surprise, quite quickly, to anyone with even a passing familiarity of Rachel Denise Fox that she was once a self-described “very awkward” child. “I had social anxiety for a very long time,” Fox recalled. Today, Fox truly does it all: founder of nonprofit You Go Girl; manager of learning and development with Covr Financial Technologies; model; actress; and, pivoting to among her latest accolades, Game Changer of the Year. “The specific acknowledgment of a ‘game changer’ is the notion that what I have done has helped change the game,” she said. “As a woman and a Black woman, I am humbled to be a representation of this incredible award. “I see girls, women, moms, wives and other humans who may think they are stuck with what they have been dealt … Changing the game is possible at any point in life.”
Being Brave
Even with these and other recognitions, not limited to Greater Omaha Chamber Young Professional Changemaker in 2019 and Mrs. Nebraska Top Finalist in 2019 and 2020, Fox insists she remains an introvert — what she calls her “default setting.” “I love being at home in my own space,” she explained. “I love animals. In fact, I have a pet tortoise who has some Instagram reels that are more popular than I am. I have a dog and a cat. I have a bearded dragon and a snapping turtle. My dream would be to get a hedgehog in the near future.” Endearing and complex, Fox first embarked on her career as a phone representative for hotel reservations. “My path has always been service-oriented — whether it was serving through sales, providing technical assistance, training or managing projects, the end game has been serving others,” she said. In 2017, Fox pivoted toward entrepreneurship, starting a consulting business focused on web development - RACHEL DENISE FOX and design. “I am proud to say that I am a self-taught website designer,” she said. “I love all things tech.” A year later, Fox saw the need for a movement to empower girls and women in the community — the genesis of You Go Girl. “My motivation for this most recent pivot was to challenge myself,” she said. “When I left the corporate world, I was a different woman. I wasn’t as bold or sure of myself. Over the years I have learned so much and grown. “Life is all about evolving,” she continued, “and I am at a phase of growing into a different role. This is a season that I am fully embracing. I am enjoying the pivot. It will stretch me and, in the process, help others.” Yet another nod to stretching and growing, Fox is a “proud graduate” of the Division of Continuing Studies at University of Nebraska at Omaha. “I represent the non-traditional students, the ones that took a little while, took detours, paused to raise a family and work,” she said. “I pursued my degree while going through a divorce. I pursued my degree while pregnant. I pursued my degree while caring for a critically ill child. I pursued my degree while working full-time. “Walking across the stage was so much more than getting a piece of paper. I put in so much work and I’m living proof that it can be done.” In Spring 2022 Fox is set to graduate from Oral Roberts University with a master’s degree in organizational leadership with honors.
Inspiring Boldness
Throughout Fox’s career, she noted many challenges were largely the result of her not being confident in herself — who she was or was becoming. “I’ve been severely underrepresented and underpaid. I’ve been misunderstood. I’ve faced workplace discrimination and bullying. I’ve been rejected and passed over for promotions. Each time I faced a challenge, I learned from it,” she said. Notably, Fox learned how to stand up for herself, to embrace who she was and to stop apologizing for “being.” “I became more comfortable with being the only woman and, sometimes, the only Black woman in spaces that I’ve taken up,” she said. “I learned to value my voice and what I bring to the table. I learned to stop settling and to boldly go after what I wanted.” Growing up, she said that it helped to believe in the “impossible.” “In fact, I believed that I could do just about anything that I wanted to do,” she said. “I couldn’t hear the word ‘no.’ I didn’t believe that ‘it can’t be done.’ Of course, as I got older, I realized that there were indeed limitations and challenges; however, it has been my unrelenting faith that has enabled me to see success.” Furthermore, she said she wasn’t mean to be “boxed in.” “I am paving the way for other women to chart their own paths and do what it is that sets their souls on fire without offering a single apology,” Fox said. “Who cares if what I’m doing doesn’t exactly fit what someone expects? I’m doing exactly what I feel is serving the purpose I was placed on this earth for. That is what matters. Do I think I am a pioneer in that kind of thinking? Yes, I do.” This may sound pretty inspirational, but Fox gets caught off-guard when others say she inspires them. “I just live my life,” she said. “I’ve been through many things and I told myself a while ago that I will not allow those circumstances to yield zero fruit. The things I have gone through are not for me, they are for others. I can speak to a domestic violence survivor, or a single mother, or a parent of a sick child, and I can tell them that it is possible. I write to inspire. I speak to inspire.” Most importantly, she is aspirational. “My life is far from perfect,” she said. “I have face planted many times, but I have also tasted sweet victory, and it is because I refuse to give up.” From inspirational to aspirational, Fox dreams of one day walking into a space designed to support bold girls and women, the way that a greenhouse might cultivate thriving plants. She and a team would cultivate confidence. She paints a picture with her words: “A place where a licensed therapist is active and accessible. A place to find support. A place that has a library and computer lab. A place where girls and women can gather. I see business incubator programs, leadership workshops, coding clubs, mentor meetups, art, music and, most importantly, a sisterhood all in one place. That is my ultimate dream.” Page 13 • December 24, 2021

BLAZING THE TRAIL AS AN ENTREPRENEUR BY BROOKE STRICKLAND
STARTING A BUSINESS CAN BE HARD, BUT WITH A GOOD SUPPORT SYSTEM AND SOLID GOALS THE PATH CAN BECOME MANAGEABLE.

GENERAL PARTNER, PROVEN VENTURES
Business ownership is part of the ‘American dream’ and more and more people are beginning to make that dream a reality.
The Entrepreneurial Landscape Starting a small business takes hard work and dedication. But, as we continue to navigate the ever-changing waters of the pandemic and its impact on the economy, the challenge of opening a new company takes even more perseverance. One thing is for certain: entrepreneurs continue to blaze trails, setting out to solve the problems that have been identified in the last two years. Erica Wassinger, general partner at Proven Ventures, noted that now is a great time for new entrepreneurs to take the leap of faith of opening a business. “There’s never been a better time to start up in Nebraska,” she said. “Entrepreneurs are identifying solutions to problems that were pronounced

through the pandemic. Access to multiple forms of capital is abounding. And the broader business community is finding their role in supporting the ecosystem.” Julie Hockney, president and founder of JH Interior Design Studio agreed. “I think so many businesses have hit the reset button and society as a whole is thinking differently,” she said. “It’s a great time to evaluate the needs of consumers and create a needed business.”
Aspiring Entrepreneurs Unite Opening a business not only takes an idea, but it takes a village of support. Wassinger recommended that if you want to walk out your dream of being an entrepreneur, surround yourself with others that want to see you succeed. “Always start your journey with a problem to solve, then find others who share the challenge and want a solution,” she said. “Focus on the one or

two things ahead of you — nail them. Then keep moving.” And once you start working out the kinks and begin to see the seeds of growth, don’t be afraid to start appointing other people to help scale the business. “As you grow and begin to give away hats you wear, find people you trust and like that can do parts of your business better than you can,” recommended Hockney. “Delegate and try not to watch … it’s all about trust.” Launching a new business takes a lot of research, in addition to a detailed plan. It also takes curiosity and a willingness to step out on a path that may not be completely paved yet. Catherine Lang, state director of the Nebraska Business Development Center said, “Get involved in your local business ecosystem. Meeting and connecting with other entrepreneurs can provide great insight into the path ahead for any business owner. “In Nebraska we have several organizations that assist people who

are still in the idea stage. I would strongly recommend a local SBA SCORE chapter, with volunteers with experience in starting and growing a small business. This mentoring can be extremely valuable for someone who is still exploring their options.” Wassinger recommended keeping your ear to the ground as to what customers want, in addition to identifying long-term goals. Then, continuing to work and refine those goals as the business gains traction is key to long standing success. “Talk to customers early and often,” she said. “Also, entrepreneurs, especially those seeking capital, need to really evaluate what their long-term goal is for the business. It’s too easy to get caught on an escalator of financing before you realize you had a different endgame in mind.” Above all, don’t give up. “Great entrepreneurs are disciplined, consistent and rigorous,” Wassinger said. “Usually, their head is down, and they are executing.”

Mentoring & Networking
MEANINGFUL WAYS TO GAIN LEADERSHIP SKILLS BY DAVID KUBICEK
ALLISON ZACH
DIRECTOR OF MARKETING, COMMUNICATIONS AND EVENTS, ICAN
Finding a mentor and networking are among the most important paths to developing leadership skills. Authenticity and emotional intelligence are two of the most important qualities of a leader, along with the four C’s — collaboration, confidence, compassion for others, and creativity, according to Allison Zach, director of marketing, communications, and events for ICAN. “A good leader has a great level of self-awareness of their strengths,” she said. “In conjunction with that is honoring the authenticity of those on their team. Especially important for young professionals [YPs] is confidence — growing that strength, defining your leadership, and confidently showing up to work each day and how you meaningfully contribute and collaborate with other members of your team.” Rebecca Atkins, chair of Greater Omaha Chamber YP Council said a good leader should listen actively. “[A leader is] someone who embraces diversity and learns about their constituents to better lead them, someone who can speak up and advocate
for their constituents when necessary, and someone who is accessible but not overbearing,” she said. A good way to develop leadership skills is finding opportunities to be part of projects in your work culture that may be outside of your day-to-day responsibilities. “By working with colleagues outside of your department you’re meeting more people across the organization and developing new skills,” Zach said. “That really increases your visibility as someone who is able to take on additional responsibilities, is really committed to contributing to the organization, and is seeking opportunities to prove yourself as a highpotential leader of the organization.” This includes participating in community affairs endeavors in which the organization is involved and representing the company at various working events, serving on community boards or volunteer groups, or serving on committees for nonprofits. Also get involved in the firm’s employee resource groups or YP groups, many of which come with learning opportunities.
REBECCA ATKINS
CHAIR, GREATER OMAHA CHAMBER YP COUNCIL
Leadership Development “Ask your manager for leadership development opportunities, such as attending a conference, a leadership program, coaching, or ask if your firm has a mentor or sponsorship program,” Zach said. “You truly never know where one connection might lead and who you may need to lean on for assistance in the future,” Atkins said. “A LinkedIn study showed that having at least one connection at a company makes you six times more likely to get a job there and having a formal referral from that connection makes you nine times more likely to get the job.” One of the best ways for YPs to network is at the annual YP Summit that the Greater Omaha Chamber and the YP Council hosts in March. “There are also various smaller YP events put on throughout the year on a variety of topics that include some time dedicated to networking,” Atkins said. “LinkedIn is a great way to network virtually.”
Page 16 • December 24, 2021
ICAN offers several programs throughout the year targeted at helping to develop high-potential leaders, including the organization’s annual one-day conference. The organization also has coaching services to help YPs advance in their careers.
Identify a Mentor “A severely underutilized resource, in my opinion, are mentors,” Atkins said. “Identify someone in your network or at your workplace who you look up to and aspire to be like and ask them to mentor you. It can be extremely helpful to have someone to answer your questions, guide you, and be a reference for you when needed.” Zach advised YPs to have the confidence to ask their managers about career growth opportunities. “Be really clear about your goals, [and] dedicate yourself and your time,” she said. “YPs bring a unique and fresh perspective to the table that brings value to any company or boardroom,” Atkins said. “Own it, be confident, and stay curious.”

Community Service
OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG PROFESSIONALS BY DWAIN HEBDA
KAREN GIBLER
PRESIDENT, SARPY COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Businesspeople from all walks of life have many options when it comes to community service opportunities. Such activities are a great way for young professionals to build name recognition and forge goodwill among customers, causes and colleagues alike.
Building a Positive Reputation Karen Gibler, president of Sarpy County Chamber of Commerce, said participating with a group is as effective a conduit for service opportunities as it is in providing networking. “The Sarpy Chamber is all about establishing relationships and connections between businesses, but we also work with a huge number of nonprofit organizations,” she said. “Young professionals who are active in the Sarpy Chamber find it’s a great way to learn more about the amazing local nonprofits we have in the area and forge partnerships that will leave a lasting positive impact on the community.” Gibler said in addition to the charitable aspect of such partnerships, being visible in the community through service is good for young professionals

as it helps develop positive name recognition through volunteering, committee assignments and other charitable activities. “Working on a community service campaign is a great way for a young professional to define who they are in terms of their values and identity as a community member,” she said. “Building on these efforts can seem counterintuitive to our general Midwestern sensibility of not wanting to toot one’s own horn, but it’s an important part of building name recognition and a positive reputation.”

school or children’s organization where employees have family attending, or a cause where there is a common affinity.” Maas also recommended that young professionals think creatively about how to invest in the effort to generate excitement. And, she suggested young professionals look beyond the work day to discover ways to get even more involved. “Make the most of your volunteer day. Wear branded clothing, come ready to work,” Maas said. “You should also take the opportunity to ask questions about the mission of the organization while you’re there. Your workday should be the start of a relationship, not its final destination.”
Getting Started
Marjorie Maas, executive director of SHARE Omaha, said another benefit of getting involved with community service campaigns is that it challenges young leaders to energize fellow employees where they work. She advises first-time organizers to start by discovering a cause the group can rally around. “Find something you and your co-workers are passionate about,” she said. “It could be rallying behind someone with a health concern, a
Philanthropy among young professionals can seem daunting at first, however there are resources to assist newcomers in developing habits of giving. professionals called Omaha Venture Group. Founded in 2002, OVG kicks off in January, where members begin their introduction to philanthropy and leadership development with monthly education opportunities, efforts that culminate in the spring with a celebratory Grant Night. “The Omaha Venture Group is a giving circle facilitated by the Omaha Community Foundation geared towards young professionals, many of whom are already emerging philanthropists who want to deepen their community knowledge while expanding their professional network,” Cavey said. “OVG members get to learn about the nonprofit sector and experience grantmaking firsthand, as well as learn about different aspects of philanthropy. “OVG is equipping these emerging philanthropists with a deeper knowledge about local community needs, so they can eventually provide even more support to nonprofits through volunteering, becoming a long-term donor to that organization or even serving as a board member.”

DIRECTOR, TALENT MANAGEMENT, MEDICAL SOLUTIONS
DIRECTOR, TRANSPORTATION & URBAN DEVELOPMENT, GREATER OMAHA CHAMBER
What accomplishments are you the most proud of? I’m really proud of the journey we’ve been on at Medical Solutions in the last three years to evolve the ways in which we talk about performance. Since 2019 we’ve established a Talent Rhythm that enables conversations about goals, living our values, and providing meaningful feedback.
What accomplishments are you the most proud of? I recently led an effort called ConnectGO to develop a new transportation strategy for the metro area focused on providing more equitable access to opportunity. I also helped plan and win funding for the Dodge Street ORBT line and launched the City of Omaha’s Transit-Oriented Development program.
What are you currently working on? I’m really excited that we’re in a place where we have the foundational performance management processes up and running and we’re able to focus on some of the more mature and strategic talent conversations like workforce planning. We recently completed the first round of a new Talent Review process and are looking at ways to build off of that to grow our capability to put the right people in the right roles at the right time. What are your most ambitious goals for the future? The initiative aims to attract new residents and jobs to the core by improving public space, offering more transportation options, and ensuring the provision of housing at all levels of affordability. What are your most ambitious goals for the future? One of our region’s most pressing challenges is finding ways to give more people a voice in the development of our built environment. CEO AND CO-FOUNDER, MILAN LASER HAIR REMOVAL
DIRECTOR OF MARKETING TECHNOLOGY AND LEAD GENERATION, TRIAGE STAFFING
What accomplishments are you the most proud of? I am a co-founder and CEO of Milan Laser Hair Removal. The company was founded in 2012 with one store and four employees. From those beginnings, it has grown to over 150 locations, all corporate-owned, across 23 states and over 1000 employees. Our company’s goal is to improve the lives of customers and our employees. We had a privateequity investment in 2019 by Leonard Green and Partners, and have recently filed an S-1 with hopes of becoming a public company in the future. By training, I am a physician and was a practicing, board-certified cardiologist.
What accomplishments are you the most proud of? I am most proud of my involvement in turning Triage from a traditional sales organization to a technology leader in our space. Many team members have joined us to make this a reality, but early wins using martech products and automation paved the way to an organization-wide belief that technology would be a core component of our growth strategy. Over that time period, we’ve gone from a small user of HubSpot to one of their largest and most complex clients. My role in this growth was extremely rewarding.
What are you currently working on? Milan Laser continues to grow rapidly, opening over 50 locations in the past year. We are actively working on scaling the business while keep our foundation strong. What are your most ambitious goals for the future? My long-term goal is to have Milan Laser Hair Removal be a national brand. I also hope that we can create new business lines to provide expanding services to our clients. Favorite quote and by whom? “It is not our abilities that show what we truly are. It is our choices.” – Albus Dumbledore, “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” – JK Rowling. Nominated by: Grant Mussman
What are you currently working on? I am currently working on integrating our marketing technology stack with a platform called Kamana (acquired by Triage in 2020). Kamana is a technology that empowers health care travelers to better track, store, manage and share their personal info; simplifying resume management and credentialing as they work with staffing agencies and directly with facilities. As we integrate, my goal is to make the process in our CRM and on Triage website seamless and intuitive for both internal team members and job applicants, allowing our team to close more sales and continue to grow. What are your most ambitious goals for the future? My goals are firmly set here in the present. Put plainly, I want to grow each day, explore new ideas, and find ways to apply what I have learned to my career. This will make me happiest and allow me to produce my best work. Having a recruiting team with tenure in the company is important to that success. RTG Medical has been serving the healthcare staffing industry for over 20 years. Having a strong foundation is fundamental to this success. The healthcare staffing industry is everchanging. Even through technology changes and an increasing need for healthcare professionals, this industry is and will continue to be about the people. “People are our greatest asset. Whether that be our in-house recruiting team or the healthcare professionals we work with.” said Guenthner. Wolf says that he is most proud of his career being about “hiring good people, teaching them the industry, and helping them be successful.”

The following are some guidelines to consider when posting legal notices with the Midlands Business Journal: 1. Submit a written notice in either Microsoft Word or as a PDF document to the Legal Department at legals@ mbj.com. For trade names, submit a copy of approved (bar code in upper right hand corner) Application For Registration of Trade Name from the Secretary of State to the same email address. Please include your billing address and the desired duration you’d like your notice to run (trade names run for only one week). As a publisher and not a legal advisor we print notices exactly as they are submitted and therefor only comp reruns when the notice was rejected or messed up due to a MBJ error. All companies submitting notices are responsible for ensuring the content fits with the State’s requirements and are responsible for the cost of republishing the notice if it is rejected due to misinformation or missing information 2. You will receive a confirmation and price quote. Legal notices, except for trade names, are charged per line. The flat fee for a trade name is $50. Payment options are cash or check. 3. Deadline is noon on Tuesday for a notice to start publishing that Friday. 4. All costs include fees to file the notice with the Secretary of State and/or any appropriate courts. 5. You will receive a paid invoice copy the first week it runs.
