MASTER BARCELONA IN LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE

POLYTECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF CATALONIA SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE OF BARCELONA (ETSAB) SCHOOL OF AGRICULTURE BARCELONA (ESAB)

Landscape Architecture

is interested in all the exterior spaces and, from the design of public space that Barcelona has projected to the world, we have returned to look at the large scale and have incorporated the language of ecology. In relation to the large scale, landscape architecture is related to geography, land management, social sciences and all urban decisions that, day by day, build the reality of our cities. Ecology, biology, agronomy, the different environmental sciences and the various landscape engineering projects are all part of the decisions we make, from the most global to the most local, from those most related to environmental problems to the most simple ideas that we can use in the conservation, restoration, or construction of our landscape.

Author: Ignacio BartolomĂŠ

This multi-disciplinary and trans-scalar vision, which is typical of landscape architecture, is also built without renouncing the capabilities of the world of art and architecture that have traditionally nurtured our profession and which have been so brilliantly developed by the School of Architecture of Barcelona.

focuses the

academic approach to Landscape Architecture from a projective exploration, that joins practice with theory from inherent perspectives such as landscape ecology, humanistic disciplines and the construction of public space among others. The main objective is training landscape architects to question contemporary topics such as climate change in the Mediterranean Region, the parameterization of ecosystem values in landscape, the recognition of

metropolitan emerging spaces and participative processes.

The program is based on site knowledge and time specificity using tools such as cartographic representation, the expression of materiality in landscape construction and the development of instruments and strategies that integrate a dialogue between public administrations and actors of the territory. The project-based learning is designed to aid students to acquire knowledge and skills in analysis, planning, landscape design and management, in order to build the capacity to face the new challenges in the turbulent legislative and political European current context.

MBLandArch

aims to generate contemporary, innovative responses to the complexity of today’s landscape. Therefore, it prepares professionals to master, with a transdisciplinary approach. A vast range of disciplines, such as public and private space design, natural systems planning, landscape reclamation, planning and conservation of protected areas, infrastructural territory, planning for sustainable development and implementation of new environmental standards.

MBLandArch

is structured around various fields and subjects: PROJECTS, ANALYSIS, TECHNOLOGY & LANDSCAPE SCIENCES

This diverse range of discipline allow the student to acquire SKILLS in: // The understanding of environmental dynamics, and of a range of technologies that enable to preserve, restore, recover, restore, manage, or invent landscapes. // The comprehension and integration of the relationship between landscape architecture, ecology, geography, the arts, social sciences, urban planning and architecture.

Ecology ^ Landscape field trip

// The project of public spaces. From urban design to the expression of various forms of relationship between urban and natural areas. // The mastering of various models and techniques of landscape representation, the practice of mapping and geographic information system - GIS // The critical study of history and theory of landscape.
