November Newsletter 2023

Dear MCC Members, The search for a new Director of Racquets has concluded. Frank Fanning has joined our team; he will begin on November 1st . A special night to meet the director will take place on November 15th from 5-6pm. Until then, perhaps find time to say hello and make him feel at home. RAC (Racquet and Aquatic Center) continues to be open through November with the same hours of operation as summer. Pizza and beverage specials for Saturday college football continues. Please find time to join us for some chilly swimming, tennis, pickleball, dining, or just hanging out. As the holidays approach, keep your club in mind for your Christmas event whether for your staff or friends and family. Call Veronica, our Catering Director, who will be more than happy to help. Also, what do you get your fellow member who has everything? Consider a gift certificate from MCC in any amount. We simply charge your account the amount and print a certificate for your gift. We can even specify which department – F & B, fitness, golf, etc. Call Gina or Tammie in the office if you would like more information. The Club will again be requesting $50 from membership for our annual Employee Holiday Bonus. You will see the charge to your account on your November statement. On behalf of myself and my staff, thank you so much for allowing us to serve our wonderful membership all year long. Please know that it is not and never will be mandatory.

Johnny Villarreal is a familiar face at McAllen Country Club. He has been employed as the Head Mechanic for 43 years and maintains and repairs the member carts and fleet carts keeping them in top shape. In his spare time, he can be found hunting and fishing.

Also, please see inserted flier for this year’s Member Appreciation Christmas Party. I sincerely hope you can make plans to join us on December 6th from 6:30-8:30pm. We continue with a full membership with a waitlist. As I have stated many times: what a great time to be a member of McAllen Country Club. If you haven’t signed up for CLUBSTER, please do so. The app helps us communicate directly to your phone. I look forward to seeing you around your club,

Jeff

After eight years, the HWY 83 Cup – McAllen CC vs Harlingen CC started up again. The McAllen CC team was led by Captain Chuck Gomez. Captain Gomez had some good players competing; Luis Alcocer, Brian Humphreys, Tony Trad, Benton Beckwith, Dan MacDonald, Kevin Hartley, Marcos Lopez, Art Diaz, Daniel Padilla, John Kittleman, Sunil Wadhwani, and Eddie Cantu. The team played very well; matches were close. The MCC team put up a good fight. In the end, Harlingen CC emerged as the winners with a score of 25.75 to McAllen CC's 22.25. We look forward to 2024 and our chance to capture the Cup. The tournament website iswww.mcc-hwy83cup-mccvshcc.golfgenius.com, and the GGID is UNYWEN.

The Two-Man Championship has come to an end. The dynamic duo of Edward "Lalo" Villareal and Chris Coleman played exceptionally well and secured the tournament victory. They even exceeded their quota on day two! The team of Ruben Temkin and Julian Ybarra also performed admirably and finished in second place, while Matt Kelly and Art Diaz's consistent play earned them third and a spot in the money. The 25th playing of the Millennium Cup is set to be played November 11th and 12th. Captain Eddie Cantu and his Co-Captain Kevin Hartley will be leading Team Stinger into competition. Captain Tony Trad and Co-Captain Brian Humphreys are Team Four Aces; hoping to capture the Cup from Team Stingers grip. This will be Game Two in a Best of Five Series. Game One was held last year in December. In Game One, Team Stinger mounted the biggest comeback in Millennium Cup history. This year will be equally exciting as our captains have each added new players hoping to find the magic spark.
