MCC February 2025 Newsletter

Dear MCC Members and Happy February!

I wanted to take a moment to update you on the exciting work happening behind the scenes as the Board continues to develop and refine the strategic plan for the future of our MCC.

A Vision for the Future

The Board has been hard at work, meeting monthly (or more) to discuss and plan the growth, direction, and future of the McAllen Country Club. The goal is to ensure the Club remains a top-tier destination for both current and future members, offering an exceptional experience across all aspects whether it’s golf, dining, or any of the other club amenities.

Key Areas of Focus

1.

Golf Course Enhancement: The Board is working closely with golf course experts to evaluate potential upgrades and improvements to the course. Whether it’s improving course conditions or exploring new ways to enhance the golfing experience, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards.

Kitchen Renovation: Another area of focus is enhancing our kitchens to create a more modern, welcoming space for members and their families to enjoy. The main kitchen is outdated with a layout designed to accommodate large banquet functions. That is no longer the focus of our club; the member and their experience is our focus now

3. It is a complicated and difficult endeavor; I commend the Board for their commitment to the club’s future and the time it takes to work through the process.

2. Financial Health & Sustainability: We understand the importance of maintaining the financial health of the Club while making strategic investments. Our Board is carefully evaluating financial strategies that will ensure both short-term success and long-term sustainability

With that, I look forward to seeing you around your club, jeff@mcallencountryclub.com

Golf

Dear MCC Members,

January has brought cooler temperatures with two cold fronts, slowing down our golf rounds for 2025. However, let's look back at 2024, where we logged a total of 15,139 rounds played

Special congratulations go to Olga Gonzalez, our most improved female player, Cesar Fernandez, our most improved male player, and Dylan Villarreal our most improved junior player Notably, our two most active golfers, John Stansberry and Dale Fielder, were outplayed in 2024 by Chris “The People’s Champion” Wicker, the new King of the Hill.

The 2025 Año Nuevo Tournament had two very different days Day one had perfect weather, while the final round was a chilly challenge with temps in the 40s

In Flight 1, Miguel Del Angel Sr. & Jr. won, defeating Tony Trad and Polo Perez.

Flight 2 saw Edward “Lalo” Villareal and Dr. JJ Saenz prevail over two teams, with Jaboney Rodriguez & Ricky Sanchez and Mark Kerr & Robert Cheaney tying for second

In Flight 3, Brian Humphreys and Rogelio Garza took the win by four strokes, while David and Chase Seal climbed to finish second.

In Flight 4, Robert Garza and Phil MacLaird tied with Michael Michalka and Jay Case, but Michalka and Case won in a scorecard playoff after birdying the first hole

As the new season begins, many vendors are releasing new golf equipment. The golf shop will have new demo sets available for members to try, and we’ll also be selling our old demo sets at discounted prices Stop by to check out TaylorMade and Callaway irons and woods!
