2023 OPTIMIST AFRICAN CHAMPIONSHIP M’ DIQ, MOROCCO
It is with great pride and pleasure that I oversaw the 2023 IODA Optimist African Championship! Extraordinary sailing unfolded against the stunning backdrop of the African continent. Hosted with enthusiasm and warmth, our goal with this championship was to bring together young sailors from all over the world, allowing them to discover Africa and showcasing Morocco’s capability to host international events. The picturesque shores of Mdiq Bay, where the championship unfolded, witnessed the convergence of skill, dedication, and the spirit of friendly competition. This event marked a significant chapter in the history of our Club, echoing the success of previous championships held in Morocco. I am confident that the young sailors shared a unique experience, and this championship will be an unforgettable milestone in their sailing journeys. My heartfelt gratitude and proud congratulations extend to my fellow Organizing Committee and the dedicated volunteers of our club, whose unwavering commitment and tireless efforts ensured the success of this event. I would like to express my warm thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, whose support deserves special recognition. Also, I extend my utmost appreciation and infinite thanks to the Local Authorities and, especially, the Governor of M’diq city, whose contributions and support were vital for the championship’s success. A bow of respect to my fellow Race Committee who worked long hours on the water to ensure fair sailing and to the International Jury who traveled from various corners of the globe, bringing their expertise to uphold the principles of fair sailing. To the young sailors, I extend my warmest congratulations on your remarkable achievements. As you revisit the moments captured by the lens of our photographer, Matias Cappizzano, who truly elevated the event, immerse yourselves once again in the thrill of the competition and the camaraderie that defines sailing as a sport for life.
