Nautical Club of Kalamaki (NCK) played host to the Olympic qualification event.
It is with great pride and satisfaction that we saw the successful completion of a very demanding, complex and hugely important event, like the 2024 Senior European Championship, which also doubled as an Olympic qualifier for the remaining 2 (ILCA 7) and 2 (ILCA 6 women) tickets for Paris 2024.
Despite the difficult and, at times, challenging weather conditions all week, the teams both off-shore and on-shore did a fantastic job of keeping athletes, coaches and race officials happy. It is very rare for an event of this magnitude to receive only congratulations and no complaints, and this is our greatest reward. Mr. Jean-Luc Michon, EurILCA president, and Dm. Özlem Akdurak, World Sailing Vice-President, who were both present at the event, expressed their gratitude for the level of professionalism and effectiveness of the organization, the installations, the launching teams, the teams on the water, jury, catering, technical teams, secretaries, the venue management, trailer handling, and of course, safety and security. A special mention must also go to our Sustainability programme which went a long way to reduce our environmental footprint, as “green sailing means blue seas”.
To top it all up, the whole event was live-broadcasted daily by the experienced Hellenic Sailing Federation live-streaming team, using a combination of drones and multiple steady-cams, from both courses on the water, so that “spectators” from all over the world could follow the efforts of the athletes. We had even placed a giant screen in our facility, so that people onshore and visitors to our facility could also watch the event. All this kept our sponsors and supporters very happy!
It is true that we had to put in a lot of hard work in the weeks leading up to the event, to prepare our facilities and organize the teams for such an event, with the assistance and full support of the Development of New Alimos Marina (a member of the ELLAKTOR Group), who are investing in bringing Alimos Marina, the largest marina in SE Mediterranean, into the 21st Century.
NCK has a history of 77 years of successes and experience, having boasted numerous Olympic, World and European Champions and organized many important events and championships in the past. We drew upon this experience and put it to good use. We are ready to face the next challenges that come our way.
Let me say a big thank you to our volunteers, all our teams, our Event Director George Kefallonitis, and of course our hosting City, Alimos, the Region of Attica, the Tourism Board, our HS Federation and the Ministry of Sports, who all embraced and supported our efforts and of course our patrons and sponsors, without whom we could never have done it.
Fair winds and see you all in Kalamaki again soon!
George Christopoulos, NCK President2024

You will find in this digital book memories of the 2024 Senior Europeans in Athens. It was a challenging week due to the lack of wind. But at the end all ended well.
I have to express my gratitude to the Team of Nautical club of Kalamaki under the club president Georges Christopoulos together with Angela, Greg and George plus many others..
Special thanks to all the volunteers , the race committee, the jury, the scorer, the ILCA Greek class and everyone who made that event a huge success.
Also my gratitude to the Hellenic Sailing Federation and her president Ms Niki Anastasiou for organizing the live coverage of the event on the water with the Hellenic Sailing Federation‘s media team.
And finally, a special thanks to our media team Agustin and Matias who animated the EurILCA social media.
The ILCA class is a big family and in a family, it is important to share memories to remember.
Stay safe and sail fast.
