C1 McCallum plastic pipe chanter
We put a thread on the reed seat of all chanters (except C4) which alleviates the problems of the reed coming loose, especially on the plastic chanter in dry conditions. This locks the reed in place until adjusted by the piper.
C2 McCallum blackwood pipe chanter Our standard Pipe Chanter (C1, C2) is played by pipe bands worldwide, including many of the top Grade 1 bands. In addition, it is also played by many top soloists and has won almost every top piping award.
The thread means the reed is locked in place – it can’t move unless the piper moves it.
C3 McCallum McC2 plastic pipe chanter C4 McCallum McC2 blackwood pipe chanter Our McCallum Solo Chanter (known as McC²) was designed exclusively by Willie McCallum and has won almost every top award since 2007. It is played by many bands throughout the world and indeed, won the Grade 2 World Championship in 2008, played by Bagad Cap Caval.
It’s also a much more accurate way of setting the chanter reed pitch. You turn the reed clockwise to sink the reed and sharpen it, and the anti-clockwise to raise it and flatten it.
