THE EVENT McColl Center for Visual Art’s signature fundraising luncheon, Ashes to Art, will be held over four days, November 5 through 8, 2013. Check-in begins at 11:30; the luncheon begins promptly at 12:15, runs for one hour, and includes an “ask” for support. Optional tours of the artists’ studios and the Center’s state-of-the-art facilities are available after the luncheon.
THE PURPOSE Ashes to Art is McColl Center for Visual Art’s largest and most vital fundraiser and directly supports the Center’s mission of advancing art, artists and the creation of contemporary art. McColl Center for Visual Art is rated among the top three out of more than 500 artist residency centers nationwide and has brought nearly 300 artists from all over the world to the Charlotte community. Part of what makes the Center unique is its focus on connecting artists and community and its belief that artists are catalysts for positive cultural advancement. In 2012, the Center began curating artists who have a social practice within the evolving Spheres of Impact which include Education, Healthcare, Social Justice, Environment, Craft, Beauty, Design & Architecture, Innovation, Technology and International International. The Spheres of Impact are designed to create opportunities for artists to collaborate, inspire and elicit creative, innovative solutions that can result in deep and lasting social change.
