Greetings from the maintenance staff! As summer is winding down, we are eagerly looking forward to some cooler temperatures ahead. We have several projects planned in the coming months that are going to enhance your playing experience. We will be performing our fall aerification which will include greens, tees, approaches, fairways, and rough. We will continue sodding bare areas around the course, seeding thin spots, and will be repairing more green surrounds. We also have a list of areas that are in need of more drainage, and hope to begin work on these areas as well. I also wanted to take a moment to discuss ball marks and divots. With the increased rounds of golf over the summer months, there has also been an increase in the number of ball marks and divots around the course. There is signage around the course that demonstrates the proper way to repair ball marks and divots. A ball mark or divot that has not been properly fixed, can take weeks to heal; whereas a ball mark or divot that is repaired properly is able to completely heal in a fraction of that time. The staff and I fix ball marks on a regular basis, and make sure sand containers are readily available as part of the daily course set up, to help aid in the recovery process. If left unattended, ball marks and divots will result in unsatisfactory playing conditions. Our goal is to maintain the golf course in such a way that each time you play, it is more enjoyable than the last.
Once again, it has been my pleasure engaging with the membership. We are excited for the improvements ahead and look forward to a busy and rewarding fall season. And last but not least, I would like to thank the many members that have volunteered their time to lend a helping hand filling divots on tees, fairways, and approaches this season. It is always very gratifying to see the many groups coming together as a team to show their pride in the golf course.
Summer is winding down somewhat which means that the summer camps are over but with school being done virtually, we still should see lots of tennis activity at the courts with PE tennis as well as the after school programs. Online reservations are highly recommended to make sure everyone can spread out safely and enjoy the courts.
CCA was the site of a high level USTA jr tournament at the beginning of August that saw some of the top players come to AVL from all over the south to compete. We hosted the boys 1 4’s and 1 6 and under divisions. Some of our own jr’s competed in the event and several had some great success. Andre Fogarasi’s grandson, Benjamin managed to win the consolation division in the boys 1 0 and unders. Benjamin is only 8 years old so this was a great tournament for him after a great summer of training. New member, Hunter Nussbaum had a great event as well and tied for 3rd place in the 1 6’s division. Xander Barber was in the finals of the 1 6’s but it was unfortunately rained out. Congrats to them all.
CCA will be hosting a USTA jr event at the end of Aug, results will be in the next newsletter but I expect some great play from a lot of them after all the hard work they have put in this summer. Benjamin Bordlee, USTA Boys Under 1 0 Division Champ
WOMEN
This summer, we had a great group of new players come out to learn to play tennis and hope to keep the excitement going this fall. If you are a new player and have interest in this, please contact Bill or Tito to find out which days we have group lessons for them.
MEN
We have been battling rainy Thursday evenings all summer but we are continuing Men’s Night Doubles play on Thursday evenings. Tennis starts at 6:30, just arrive by 6:30 and Bill will set the groups up at that time.
JUNIORS
With public schools going back virtually; we have some different jr. clinic options this year. We are offering classes at 1 :00 and 2:00 in conjunction with the CCA Study Hall program. Also, we will have our after school program in place for others that have in person
schooling. Please contact Bill for more info on this.

Summer is over and needless to say, it was one we won't forget, even though some of us might like to! The kids have been through so much and I'm sure they are all ready to resume some sense of normalcy. We, at CCA, are doing our best to try and help keep the kids busy and provide as much support for our families as possible. We were able to successfully carry out summer camp programs here while maintaining safety and compliance! We are so relieved to have completed that without incident! Friday night Kids Clubs have been moving along successfully as well as our occasional Tween and Toddler Nights!

FOOTPRINTS ON THE GREEN PROGRAM
As the host for many charities and donors to numerous others, McConnell Golf is excited to contribute and engage through our community engagement program Footprints on the Green. Through a strong and supportive effort made by our collective membership and staff, we strive to become a driving force in the local community where our clubs reside. Aware of the challenges our society and environment face daily, we have aligned ourselves with a variety of organizations and various methods of giving back. This program is designed with all age groups in mind so that it will be a learning tool for our youth, a team building activity for our staff, and a friendship building platform to strengthen our connection with our membership. Recently, the Country Club of Asheville raised over $2,800 for United Way School Supply Drive.
