TURF TALK
Greetings from the maintenance staff! As summer is winding down, we are eagerly looking forward to some cooler temperatures ahead. We have several projects planned in the coming months that are going to enhance your playing experience. We will be performing our fall aerification which will include greens, tees, approaches, fairways, and rough. We will continue sodding bare areas around the course, seeding thin spots, and will be repairing more green surrounds. We also have a list of areas that are in need of more drainage, and hope to begin work on these areas as well. I also wanted to take a moment to discuss ball marks and divots. With the increased rounds of golf over the summer months, there has also been an increase in the number of ball marks and divots around the course. There is signage around the course that demonstrates the proper way to repair ball marks and divots. A ball mark or divot that has not been properly fixed, can take weeks to heal; whereas a ball mark or divot that is repaired properly is able to completely heal in a fraction of that time. The staff and I fix ball marks on a regular basis, and make sure sand containers are readily available as part of the daily course set up, to help aid in the recovery process. If left unattended, ball marks and divots will result in unsatisfactory playing conditions. Our goal is to maintain the golf course in such a way that each time you play, it is more enjoyable than the last. Once again, it has been my pleasure engaging with the membership. We are excited for the improvements ahead and look forward to a busy and rewarding fall season. And last but not least, I would like to thank the many members that have volunteered their time to lend a helping hand filling divots on tees, fairways, and approaches this season. It is always very gratifying to see the many groups coming together as a team to show their pride in the golf course.
