prototyping learning multiple ways to create models with reproducible results. the class was concentrated more on the process of making models and the techniques that make them up. more so than being focused on the design that went into them.

mold making & casting can-cup taking the proportions of a “standard 32oz. beer can and casting them in a porcelain material with an open top. Creating a cup out of a familiar shape.

mold making & casting can-cup making a plaster mold of the cup requires making a dam to then fill with the wet plaster and then filling the other side to create the second half of the mold.

initially planning on using a three part mold. accounting for the lack of draft on the underside of the can as well as for the undercut created at the top of the cup.

removing the flash the cup will be ready for firing and glazing after sponging smooth any imperfections

mold making & casting can-cup pouring slip took time and a couple of rounds of practice to get the timing right. final touch ups were needed before totally drying out.

mold making & casting can-cup the final result was a leather ware cup that can then be bisque fired to provide more structure and be ready for glaze and a final firing.

sand casting Yolo sand casting is a simple yet versatile process. I decided to make a logo out of Styrofoam as my mold.

welding table legs using a common technique for joining metal we used both tig and mig welding to create a series of table legs.

mccord blackwell - DSID 137

welding table legs not being an ordinary class meeting meant for unordinary behavior.

mccord blackwell - DSID 137

welding table legs practice welds were done to test different welding conditions such as butt joints, lap joints as well as offset joints.

multiples jacobs literature using multiple patterns and bent rod I produced a magazine rack that looks similar to a Jacobs ladder as well as a ladder coming apart at the rungs.

6 ft.

mccord blackwell - DSID 137

multiples Jacobs after bending the rod to the appropriate lengths I then welded the two main sections together and attached the arms to with equal spacing from one another.

clamping the parts down to eliminate movement is a key step in welding. with temperatures varying so much the metal tends to move around a lot.
