2021
VIA Design and Media College Denmark are proud to present the 2021 edition of DANISH DESIGN MEETS PHOTOGRAPHY. Bringing photographers and designers together on a project like this reflect the reality they face after graduating from our schools: Bringing new ways of thinking to life. Working hard and believing in yourself as an individual, creative craftsman. VIA Design’s design products are the result of the creative project course in which sixth semester students work to bring forward their individual expression of design within the concepts of fashion design - from inspiration to idea process to the production of a functional prototype. The photographers have worked closely with the design students to produce the gallery-quality images, we are proud to present in this booklet. Being halfway through their education, they focus on visual communication and project management, and in the designers they found a mutual, creative individual: One who had the visual vocabulary to inspire them into creating images of high quality.
Designer: Sofie Hejlesen Photographer: Nicoline Boe Ernstorn For my womenswear collection I was inspired by the beauty and vastness of space. In my gap year travels I have come across many of nature’s wonders, and one that always stood out to me was the clear starlit night. Space can be scary as it is still very mysterious to us, but we cannot help becoming awestruck by its beauty and size. I wanted my design to capture its aesthetic, by dressing the wearer in streetwear fit for a walk among the stars. Sofie Hejlesen
Designer: Celia Skov Photographer: Clara Brøgger Poulsen This outfit is inspired by two different chandeliers. The correlation between the chandeliers is the idea to show something that you usually hide - or hide something you usually show. The outfit focuses on the aesthetic beauty in which elements are usually hidden, but in this case appear as beautiful details. The print is one of the chandeliers seen from below, both as a digital print and embroidery. The outfit focuses on details, volume and shape from the chandeliers to keep it exciting in a 360 degree view.

Designer: Mie Blond Nielsen Photographer: Michelle Christina Lei Power, color and positive energy was the inspiration for this womenswear collection. The shapes and colours were collected from an old school CD-record in terms of the roundness, hardness and reflection of light. The collection is meant to be joyful and eye-catching. Its a message to the grown-ups: Never stop playing and remember to have fun with your identity. Yet, the clothing is still wearable and functional. Mie Blond Nielsen
Designer: Silke R. S. Sinnerup Photographer: Bastian Illemann The collection was based on how we can connect with nature and be sustainable through activistic fashion. In this case, I only used materials with natural fibers and natural waste materials such as waste wool from sheep breeders and fish leather. These materials are biodegradable and free from micro-plastics. Through sustainability we create a symbiotic relationship between us and the planet which I believe to be the way we truly connect with nature. Silke R. S. Sinnerup
Designer: Emma Ebbrecht Olesen Photographer: Jacob Jepsen I like working with silhouettes. I like the idea of a garment being able to change from one expression to another and I believe that it is something that can help extend the life of the clothes, remaining them interesting for the user. In this collection I was inspired by military uniforms and the contrasts between the ideals of the classic masculine and feminine expression. The trenchcoat from this collection can be tied in different ways and thus change the silhouette and adapt the fit to the user.

Designer: Fanni Vonnák Photographer: Søren Kjergaard Kristensen Being in a long distance relationship is like dating in space. Imagine you are wearing a spacesuit that limits your moves and covers your whole body. You are able to see, hear and talk, but your hands are limited. You cannot touch and cannot feel with your skin. You are stuck and far away. The collection Spacedate is inspired by associations of a techno song from Pleasurekraft called Space date, Russian criminal tattoos and long distance relationships. It captures the feeling of loneliness.

Designer: Martyna Brechelke Photographer: Sasha Knudsen As a designer, I am mostly inspired by emotions and psychology. This collection is an analysis of passive-aggressive behaviour: a sign of lacking the ability to show and cope with emotions. This mechanism is used to protect the feelings or to hide the real attitude. I used the term black hole for mental problems which are constantly underestimated. We say yes even if we mean no. Dishonesty is a mask for the fragile and confused reality carefully hidden deeply in our minds.
Martyna Brechelke
Designer: Michelle Marquard Photographer: Pernille Hoffmann Køppen This project is inspired by Johnny Madsen’s paintings. They are expressionistic, colourful and show complexity within simple silhouettes - just like we as humans have the same simple outlines, but are all uniquely complicated within. These components have driven the project with a focus on outer lines inspired by Johnny Madsen’s figures and inner lines inspired by the curves and patterns from pomegranates, which seem simple on the outside but are complex on the inside - just like Madsen’s figures and just like people.

Designer: Jessy Josephina Hendrika Pelzer Photographer: Lucas Lee Stockwell As a designer I believe in creating time-less, long lasting designs made from high quality materials. With my designs I want people to appreciate the craftsmanship of tailoring and making clothes again. The outfit that I created is inspired by the song Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell. The song explains how we change perspective once we grow up and this is illustrated in the outfit by using light and dreamy materials in contrast with dark and heavy materials.

Designer: Nanna Hejndorf Photographer: Rikke Lykkebo The collection is about exploring the skin and its contrasts. It is a tribute to the body and its way of carrying us every day. The skin completes us as humans. It reveals everything including the things we try to conceal others from seeing. As a designer I prefer to be objective and not label things as right or wrong. In lieu contrasts inspire me. This collection exposes the multiple structures and colours, the transparency, the shine and the tactility associated by the skin.

Designer: Anders Vittrup Schultz Photographer: Sarah Terp I carry a conviction of changing perception with my creations. Looking within, discovering how I feel about a topic or motion. Presenting the findings in my work. I consider my work a process of discovery. An effort to go deeper. Looking past what is immediate, creating a lasting impression on the subject. That is my understanding of good design: a constant learning-curve. Galvanized resurgence is my comment on these disrupting times: Portraying despair and ruin. Yet also, optimism. Looking for beauty in the hardest of places.
Anders Vittrup Schultz
Designer: Kirstine Linnebjerg Photographer: Martin Nielsen This design was created with inspiration found in the transformation process from clay to ceramics. The amount of personal expression presented through ceramics was the initial motivation for me to pick this as the inspiration. The intention with this look was to create a balance of contrasts between the clean constructed look on the top and the textured playfulness that goes into the sleeves and the skirt. References to the craftmanship of ceramics were made directly in the organic shapes and textured surfaces.
Kirstine Linnebjerg
Designer: Ditte Lindhardt Andersen Photographer: Syrine Maj Pallisby My designs often have a critical message as the main inspiration, expressed in a feminine and edgy way with different hidden symbols and details. I use my inspiration to explore the problems society is facing and combine it with a psychological angle by looking at the problems from different point of views. This collection is inspired by the growing problem of infertility and the psychological impact on the people who is affected. Feelings such as sorrow, confusion, disappointment, and hope are the base of this design.
Ditte Lindhardt Andersen
Designer: Cecilie Koustrup Bertelsen Photographer: Lena Riis As a designer I like to provoke the normality as we know it by creating new silhouettes and combine materials. My design is clean and minimalistic with a raw feel to it. I like when design comes from a greater idea and digs into a deeper meaning and story, so it in that way will form something new and innovative. My inspiration often occurs from opposites, because it can create something unseen and special when they meet. Cecilie Koustrup Bertelsen
Designer: Josephine Agnethe Hansen Kok Photographer: Rasmus Wang Kaa My design mission is to create classic but elevated design through mixing masculine and feminine elements with unexpected and unique textures and textiles. The collection Lost at Sea is inspired by my grandfathers’ life at sea. The collection is dedicated to him, the sea and the sailors who live their lives on it. Lost at Sea embodies the textures and forms of the sea and is inspired by the sailor uniform and the nature that rules underneath the waves. Josephine A. H. Kok
Designer: Beate Ubagovska Photographer: Line Wraae My inspiration for this womenswear project is the British alternative rock band Bastille and specifically, their mixtape Other People’s Heartache which consists of four parts. I created a womenswear collection inspired by the vibes of the Other People’s Heartache and a mix of the 60s and the 90s. Just like the singer did when he added his favourite values and quotes to the old songs, I will do so on the garments by mixing two decades and creating contemporary garments: Forgotten trends reborn into the modern world.
