What We Can (and Cannot) Talk About in this Magazine

As you probably know by now, there are certain health topics that we are no longer allowed to address due to FDA regulations.

For those of you who have been receiving the Sprigs Life Magazine for a while, you may remember that we used to publish more articles on how to use herbal products as medicine to deal with sickness, disease, and healing as well as many customer success stories. But unfortunately, because of FDA rules, we are no longer allowed to publish a lot of this information or these stories.

According to the government, just talking about the healing power of herbs means we are making claims they deem unacceptable when published together with our products.

This has made it difficult for us to share almost any of the thousands of stories you send us about using our products. In the past few magazines we have chosen to only share the stories that the FDA allows, however, because we want to share more of your stories, we have decided to do something a little different in this magazine. How to Keep Kids Cold and Flu-Free Year Round

Having kids means the concern of germs, sicknesses, and illnesses are always on the forefront of your mind.

You have to live with the assumption that there is always a bug going around...because there is. No matter how many times you tell them to not touch anything, keep their hands off their face, wash their hands, and cover their mouth, they tend to not always remember to mind your advice. Not to mention, this is only a part of the issue.

Kids play with lots of other kids and share toys (and germs) especially in the classroom setting. There is no absolute way to keep germs at bay, but there IS a way to increase the health of our kids so that their body is able to better fight off the germs and heal at a faster rate.

Let’s look at some of the facts. An estimated 10 nonillion (10 to the 31st power) individual viruses exist on our planet—enough to assign one to every star in the universe 100 million times over!

What should we do when our children start to show signs of sickness? When kids wake up with the sniffles, cough, etc. it is a sign their body is just fighting off something like it does all of the time, and doing its job. How to Deal with Vomiting and Fevers A fever is the body’s way of burning up a virus, bacteria, or infection. Vomiting is how our body gets rid of poison or toxins from our body.

Both fevers and vomiting are ways your body is trying to protect you and to help you heal. If this occurs, don’t have your kids eat. Let their body use its energy to focus on recovery.

Motherhood Conference Recap Motherhood Conference 2021 was an incredible weekend. We gathered with over 150 women and spent two full days connecting, learning, and growing together.

Jonathan and I and the entire Sprigs team are blown away by the response and feedback from the weekend. We heard countless stories of women navigating their health, women battling infertility, and women taking leaps in their motherhood journey in raising a healthy family.

I personally had the opportunity to connect with many ladies, and it felt refreshing to connect on a one-on-one level. The people who were a part of the conference weekend are a huge inspiration to Jonathan and me.

A New Look at How the Lymphatic System Works STORY BY GINA HACKBARTH

It was previously thought that the lymphatic system was completely passive, without any pump to move its fluid throughout the body. It relied on exercise or manual lymphatic massage to flow. But new studies suggest something different. If the lymphatic system were truly 100% passive, why don’t paralyzed individuals have massive amounts of swelling? Another educated guess is that the lymphatic system works by series of valves. But it turns out only 71% of bodies examined posthumously even had lymphatic valves, meaning there has to be another way the fluid moves.

The lymphatic system is arguably one of the most neglected body systems when it comes to scientific study. There has been less research done on the lymphatic system than the rest of the body. Because of this, we are still learning how it works, what it does, and how important it is to overall health. This article contains some of the newest research, and in the coming years, I hope we have even more news to share on the lymphatic systems as discoveries are made!

The lymphatic system is a large network of vessels and nodes that plays a large role in moving cellular waste out of the body, including environmental chemicals, pathogens like bacteria and viruses, and old immune cells after they have done their job to fight infection. There are several liters of fluid in the average person’s lymphatic system.

When a person is chronically ill, more lymphatic fluid is produced, and its quality declines. This leads to puffiness, swelling (edema), and fluid retention. Many people have lost weight simply from getting their lymphatic system healthy again because their bodies realized it was now safe to release that excess fluid.

Most lymphatic fluid is produced in the liver, but some is also made in the intestines. This fluid consists of mostly water and cellular debris. It could be described as the body’s liquid trash can.

Unlike blood, which circulates throughout the body over and over, lymph fluid only goes one way—out.

A tree must bring water from the ground up to even its highest branches and leaves. So how is it possible for a tree to fight against gravity, without a pump, to move water up hundreds of feet to the very top? It is believed now that trees convert water to its fourth phase, exclusion zone water, also called EZ water or structured water, to do this (the other three phases are solid, liquid, and gas, which we also call ice, water, and water vapor).

Exclusion zone water is still H2O, but it is the unique arrangement or structure of the two hydrogens and one oxygen atom that make up a water molecule. It has a texture similar to honey or gel, somewhere between solid and liquid. EZ water can store and use more energy than liquid water. It can be compared to a charged battery. It is believed EZ water uses this energy to propel lymph fluid through lymphatic vessels.

So what helps our bodies convert the liquid water we drink to the EZ water it appears our lymphatic system needs? Sunshine, physical touch, and a connection between bare skin and the earth have been demonstrated in research to do this.

While these three things are simple, they take intentionality to include in our daily lives. We stay indoors when the weather is poor, removing sunshine and physical connection with the earth from the equation.

Mom I’m rather slow in getting this written, but noticed the Mom discussion on aw gwaksa. I’d say you’re getting close

to connecting it with colic. As far as colic is concerned, our oldest had it, but we also discovered that he has a hiatal hernia (by a chiropractor). With a hiatal hernia you also massage downward, right under the sternum or rib cage. So basically, I just classed these terms as the same condition, but could be wrong.

Some of our children have a lactose intolerance and it seemed if they ate foods they were intolerant to, or had a bouncy ride or too much wind in the face when small, their stomach would tighten up, causing the hernia. However, we have an A2A2 cow (low lactose) and with time it seemed they sort of grew out of it.

There is a doctor in Kansas who treats colic babies (the younger, the better), but for mild cases and using common sense, it can be treated at home. Scharenegb Chioac icO ce]˛‘ˇ—‘ ¸¸—^he T kd recommend at least a week of treatments, usually.

He, too, turned his head to one side while lying on his back. We were taking him to our doctor for cranial treatments, but he couldn’t get it, so we took him to another, higher educated, cranial doctor. He had a name for it (torticollis) and explained the muscles are so tight they cause muscle Mom spasms. So that bump was actually a tight muscle. Torticollis can cause the head to be pulled to one side if not treated, and I have seen it needeb o ed i heg la eno^he T oneo treat it, the better.

I know we mothers (or parents) have a lot of impressions on our children’s attitudes. But when bigger children wake up crying and nothing goes right for them, surely they are lacking in something, or maybe need cranial treatments. I don’t think God designed anyone’s personality that way. I hope you have better days ahead, ask God for wisdom!

To make work look more appealing and not so daunting to younger children, assign the work by their ages. So many loads of wood, fold so many diapers, etc. This is fair and fun for them.

My daughter, Ella, is 12 years old now, and I remember vividly when she was six years old and in first grade. I was called to her school to meet with the teacher about three weeks into the school year. Ella’s teacher sat me down and said, “We have a problem.”

I was twelve years old when I experienced my first cycle. I remember being in gym class, and we were playing volleyball that day and felt something was a little bit off. I quickly ran to the restroom to find that there was a stain that went through my pants.

I was so embarrassed, and I didn’t know what to do. I went to the school nurse and told her what had happened. She comforted me and sent me off with a huge maxi pad. This pad was as big as a diaper, it made me feel even more embarrassed, but it’s what I had. I got home later that afternoon and shared with my mom what had happened. My mother took me to the pharmacy and picked up some over-the-counter Advil extra strength and more some-what comfortable pads. I had so many questions, but I also felt very uncomfortable to ask, so I just took in all the information my mom shared.

Buckwheat pancakes

Ingredients

• 6 tablespoons butter

• 2 cups buckwheat flour (you can process whole buckwheat in a blender)

• 2 tablespoons milk • 1 tablespoon blackstrap

• 1/2 cup honey

• 1 tablespoon molasses

• 2 teaspoons baking powder

• 1/3-1/2 cup xylitol or sugar of your choice Directions

• 1 teaspoon baking soda • 1 teaspoon salt

Boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon soda and 1 teaspoon salt. Stir over 1 popper of popcorn. Bake uncovered at 200° for 1 hour stirring every 15 minutes.

• 2 eggs

Mix all ingredients together. Bake at 350° for 12-15 minutes. Cool a bit before removing from trays.

Heat 1 gallon milk to 110°. Then add 1 cup yogurt, 4 teaspoons gelatin which has been soaked in 1/3 cup water, 2 tablespoons vanilla and 1 or 2 teaspoons liquid stevia. Pour into jars and put in an ice chest with 110° water. (Jars can be preheated with hot water or put in the oven for a little.) Put in more gelatin if you want thicker yogurt. I usually do mine in the forenoon then let it set until around bedtime.

Mix all ingredients together, and enjoy as a dip for apple slices, a spread for rice cakes, or as nutritious icing for cupcakes etc.

Hello to all in womanhood...

I am a 21 year old mother with a 9 month old daughter.

She’s the joy of our lives. As an infant she had acid reflux and I found that by giving her 2 teaspoons of liquid acidophilus (tastes like yogurt) everyday, it really soothed her stomach. Lots less of throwing up and even when she did, it didn’t stink.

My question is, how can you tell when your ovulation peak is? Most times I’ve heard that it comes in the area of 14 days or finds the middle number of days from last period ending until the next period begins, usually around 28 days for me. So the middle day would be 14 days for me. Sounds simple right? Well, here’s what I got: I always had healthy periods before I got married. I got married on Friday and Sunday my period was due.

So 3 days. I never figured I’d get pregnant. But Sunday came and no period came with it. I waited a few days and did a pregnancy test and - oh, my! I was pregnant.

3 days before my period was due. So my question is - is there anyone out there that dealt with this? My period just started coming again (after 9 months) and I like to track my ovulation as I don’t feel ready for another baby

yet, but don’t believe in birth control. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance!

Hi ladies, Thanks for taking time to share.

As far as taking it easy during your period, we girls never did and it didn’t hurt us. But I have heard it can cause a tilted uterus, thereby hindering pregnancy achievement. I never heard of anyone taking it easy until a couple years ago. So I don’t know if it matters or not.

And yes, please tell your children a lot - all you can about intimacy before they are married (though you don’t need to say much about it until the last week or so before their wedding). I wish we’d have known more - it would have made our honeymoon more pleasant!

Every time I have my period, mostly on the second day, I get knife sharp shooting pains in my rectal area, what

is it and what can be done? I used to think it’s trapped gas but it doesn’t seem to be as I only get it on the 2nd day of my period but never menstrual cramps. If I’m walking when they hit it puts me on my tip toes and if I’m sitting I need to lean forward to relieve the pressure. It’s such a sharp pain it takes your breath. I have to watch how I sit down or the pain just shoots up to the base of my spine. I’ve always had this problem and it was so bad this morning I decided to put a question in here as I don’t believe it’s something I just need to live with. If there’s even one of you who knows what I talk about, please, let’s hear what I can do.

Hello, Thanks to all who wrote and shared your experiences - even if some don’t think you should write about this or that- it might be of help to others.

Could we hear what helps ladies with a heavy menstrual flow? I know several that have it really heavy, and more than 5 days and ended up needing blood. My suggestion would be red raspberry and parsley tea (same amount of each). Helped to get me on a regular schedule again. Red raspberry nourishes the female organs and parsley contracts the flow, even though red raspberry makes me bleed more while having babies, with the parsley it doesn’t. Or try a shephards purse tincture. I have used that too, but felt the red raspberry and parsley does more. Drink it regularly for several months.

A note on parasites - we once treated what we thought was a fungus with oregano oil - the spot went away and several round worms were passed.

This is an interesting magazine. I have a highlighter with me when I read it.

I would like to see more on irregular menstrual cycles.

I skip a month or 2 at a time and then sometimes I get it like normal. My emotions are a roller coaster. I don’t nurse. I am ready to feel better. We are blessed with a healthy and happy lil’ girl (almost 2).

Something I use a lot is lavender essential oil for earaches. Usually it calms her right down.

Question on thyroid - what is best to take for the following symptoms issues: Weight gain, no energy, and usually I am cold. Looking for answers.
