ou’ve probably dreamed about your wedding day since you were a child, picturing it as perfect, magical. But, as much as we might wish it so, there’s no wand to make that happen. It means a lot of research, a lot of decisions. What gown? Flowers? Venue? And that’s just for starters. We’re here to help. This Fall/Winter issue of New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE gives you a ton of ideas for the coming season. You’ll see gorgeous, on-trend wedding gowns (lofty too, some 500 feet off the ground atop Cathedral Ledge in North Conway!) and we take you to Allrose Farm in Greenfield for a mid-century chic wedding that features a wine tasting. Plus, there are tips for choosing a wedding hair stylist (it’s more involved than you think). And, as always, the inspiration of “Real NH Weddings.” Don’t forget to check out our website, bridenh.com, where you’ll find many photos that we couldn’t fit in this issue as well as extra features and links to local resources. You’ll also find us on Facebook at Facebook.com/nhbride. Enjoy this special time and, from everyone here, our very best wishes for a wonderful life together.
Barbara Coles Editor PS: We’re looking for weddings to feature in our Spring/Summer 2019 issue of BRIDE. Although we can use only a limited number in the magazine, we post all of them online. Interested? Visit bridenh.com to submit your wedding.

Marble & Gold
1
This swoon-worthy cake, which was created by Jaime Melfi of Autumn Nomad Cakes & Café, is inspired by classic modern-minimalist weddings. The elegant marble swirl creates a sleek, stunning stone-like effect. The top marble tier resembles cut stone, while the bottom hexagonal shape adds visual interest. The glittery gold bottom tier is striking against the marbled effect, and when combined with the soft flowers draping down the side, the final result is modern understated elegance. autumnnomad.com

Nontraditional Rings We love classic rings, but we can’t deny that it’s colored rings’ time to shine. Not only will you save your fiancé a few extra bucks, but choosing a gemstone can make your ring look even more unique. Whether you want to try a vintage setting, incorporate your favorite color or birthstone, or go for an heirloom piece of jewelry like this one, a colored stone will make you stand out from the crowd.

Flower Crowns & Mismatched Gowns
5
Flower crowns are a great way to dress up your wedding hairstyle, and they can also be a beautiful alternative to a traditional headpiece or veil. Not only are they gorgeous, but they are perfect for the DIY bride. Your bridesmaids will love them too. Speaking of making your bridesmaids happy, matching dresses — which might not fit every body type — are no longer a given. Many brides are choosing coordinating colors and cuts, allowing her crew to choose the most flattering style and the ability to express her own individual style. Beaded or lace bodices paired with skirts of different colors and materials are also popular options that create more visual interest. Florals by Fruition Flowers, fruition-flowers.com

ou’ve chosen your dresses, both yours and your bridesmaids, so now it’s time to choose the hairstyle that looks best with them. Up or down? All the same? Headpiece? Veil? So many decisions. Wedding hair specialists like Lena Hartford of Hair That Moves can make those decisions a lot easier. “It’s my job to ensure that the bride’s vision for her wedding day is realized,” Lena says. She has lots of tips for what you need to consider to get the most out of your wedding hair design appointment. Her first tip: Make the appointment 12 months in advance. Only about 20 percent of hair stylists do styling for weddings, so specialists are in demand. Read on for more of Lena’s tips and to get inspiration from some of the wedding hairstyles she’s done.

Ask the hair stylist about their experience with weddings. Do they share your vision? Is there a trial? ❖ Talk about the timeline for the day. When does the hair styling need to begin for everyone to be ready for the photographer? ❖ Make a Pinterest board with ideas, both ones you like and ones you don’t. Maybe you like the front of one style and the back of another. That’s OK. The stylist can customize the look for you. ❖ Ask yourself whether you want to stay close to your everyday style or do something dramatically different.

What is the setting for your wedding? Does this style fit the feel, whether vintage, oceanside, rustic, formal or casual? ❖ What is the neckline of your dress? The hairstyle should work with it. So should the shape of your face. ❖ Do you want the hairstyle to be convertible — one hairstyle for the ceremony and one for the reception? ❖ Be realistic. Your hair’s texture and thickness may not allow you to have the hairstyle you see on a model. Discuss adding hairpieces or choosing another style. ❖ Are you wearing a veil or hairpiece? If you’re not sure, choosing a hairstyle first can help you decide. ❖ Hair color is important when choosing a hairstyle. Make sure your color is done before the trial. ❖ Ask the stylist how they want you to come to the trial. With makeup or without? Clean hair or “day old” hair? ❖ Take photos at the trial so you know what you liked and can reference it on the day of the wedding. ❖ Follow up with the stylist after the trial about how the hairstyle held up. Did it last? Were the curls tight enough? Did it frizz? Was it perfect? These are all things that can be fixed. Better to make changes then.
