ou’re engaged, the love of your life by your side, your wedding day ahead. In your dreams, the day will overflow with love and laughter. Now the job — and the joy — of making that happen begins. Where to start? There’s so much to decide. But count on us to help make it easier. In this Spring/Summer 2019 issue, there are tons of ideas to inspire you. Check out “Rustic Chic” on page 40, where the brightest of bright colors provide dazzling accents for both ceremony and reception, beautifully set against clear crystal Chiavari chairs and table. For a softer look, varying shades of pink, there is “Shades of Pink” on page 58. Note the interesting lighting for the reception table. More inspiration comes from our “Real Weddings.” So many themes, so many ways to express them, each in a different venue. Speaking of that, for a comprehensive list of places to have your ceremony and/or reception, see page 72. And, on the last page, you can see how life has changed for couples who were featured in “Real Weddings” this time last year. Our website (bridenh.com) has all kinds of additional information and links to local resources. You can also find us on Facebook at Facebook.com/nhbride. Enjoy this special time with your love and, from everyone here, our very best wishes for a wonderful life together.

RUSTIC
Styling and Floral Design by Malloy Weddings | Photos by Brian Adams PhotoGraphics
What happens when you combine vibrant punches of color, sleek finishes and the clean lines of a rustic New Hampshire barn? You get a wedding setting that is unforgettable.
An unforgettable setting is what Kate Malloy of Malloy Weddings and her crew of talented professionals created at the Roads End Farm, which is set in the heart of the Lakes Region. The venue, which collaborates with Malloy Weddings, is a vast property with stunning views of the White Mountains, sprawling lawns and a rustic two-story timber frame barn. “We wanted to showcase the endless design possibilities the property offers,” Kate says. “We’re lucky to have such beautiful venues throughout the state and we wanted to show a different side to them.” And so they did.
A chic gold ship lap bar brought some glam to the barn, keeping the overall design contemporary. The bar was accented with the same bright, bold floral to complete the look. The floral for this summer wedding was, as Kate describes it, “bright, modern and tightly composed. She created punches of color with vibrant fuchsia vanda orchids, sunset orange calla lilies, an abundance of lush garden roses and beautifully layered ranuculus, each flower grouped with themselves.
The color palette of the bright floral inspired the design of the invitation suite, escort cards and bar menus (shown on previous page). The designer, Kathleen Ostrom of Leen Jean Studios, says, “The vision for these items was to have a clean design with handwritten and organic touches that blended modern with a soft feel.” Each item featured hand-painted watercolors. Gold calligraphy and hand-applied gold leafing make these name tags memorable.

New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE | 45
The show-stopper of the design was the ceremony backdrop. “This canvas,” says Kate, “was custom painted to have an ombré effect, leading to the overall design concept that the colors will be seen in a series throughout the shoot.” Gold metallic paint was brushed onto the canvas to elevate the design and add more luxury to the space. Clear acrylic Chiavari chairs with white tufted cushions allow the colorful canvas to stand out.

“A full and fun lash” was one of the aspects of the makeup done by Danielle McKenzie of Making Faces Weddings. Lighter colors, peach and gold, were used on the lid. And, pulling from the styling of the shoot, there was natural bronze peach on the cheek and a pop of color on the lips. The bride’s hairstyle is designed for summer. Lena Hartford of Hair That Moves says, “I created a casual updo that was practical for an outside wedding, maybe with wind or mist, that would look amazing from the side or front.”
Chairs along the aisle were backed with what Kate calls “just a touch of ribbon that perfectly matched each single rose that was placed in the center of the ribbon tie.” The silhouette-hugging mermaid dress in crepe, from White One Collections, features cap sleeves and an open back decorated with cut-out embroidery that plays with sheer effects. An elegant bateau neckline completes the look.
New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE | 49
The bright, modern floral theme carries through to the reception table. Malloy Weddings designed it so that mirrored square vases held structurally built arrangements, using one type of floral per vase, running the length of table. Kate says, “This created a geometric color story on each table that matched the custom contemporary ceremony backdrop and the custom menus and place cards.”

These dishes, created by The White Apron, carry on the sophisticated, colorful theme. This bistro board offers piave vecchio, black truffle caciotta, pimentino, fresh goat cheese with fines herbes as well as Tamworth prosciutto, coppa salami, Cerignola olives and housemade spiced nuts. Signature mini sweets include lemon-pistachio frangipane, mini s’more cupcakes and lemon beehive tartlets. All, again, from The White Apron.

Inspired by a bright, springy color palette and modern geometric details, Shara Chickering-Hill of Chickadee Hill Cakes created a cake with a classic, three-tiered silhouette in a flawless white fondant finish. “The individually cut and water-colored hexagonal pieces on the bottom tier were hand-painted with food coloring,” Shara says. “Preppy modern metallic gold stripes were decorated with edible 23K gold leaf, and the entire confection was topped with edible sugar magnolias with matching 23K gold centers.”

A modern, trim lounge vignette consisted of a white leather couch, a lush white faux fur rug and matching floral to complete the design.

Shades of PINK
Soft, sweet, romantic — that’s what Kristin Burgess and her talented team had in mind when they created a styled shoot for a soon-to-be wedding venue in Milton, New Hampshire. “We wanted to tell the story of this venue’s birth with a Springinspired color scheme,” says Kristin, who leads a boutique design collective newly named The P R I S M House (formerly By Emily B.). And so, with a palette of pink, they painted a blank canvas to tell the story of something new and full of possibility. Opening this September, it will be called The Greenery at McKenzie’s Farm and offer a large, barn-like structure with soaring ceilings and a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows to bring the outdoors in. With a whitewashed interior, it’s perfect for any couple’s vision, no matter the color.

Love in Bloom The bouquet, by Sarah Lapine of Watershed Floral, is the eye-catching centerpiece of the monochromatic color palette, with soft pinks and whites combining to create the soft, sweet and romantic look. The flowers include peony, queen anne’s lace, scabiosa, spirea, carnation, spray rose, hellebore, garden rose, lysimachia, stock, lisianthus and bay leaf.
The A-line Leanne Marshall gown has a silk bodice and draped organza skirt in a oneof-a-kind blush watercolor print, inspired by paintings done by the designer.
62 | New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE
Simply Elegant The bride’s flowing hair was styled by Lena Hartford of Hair That Moves. “We wanted to create something fun, outside of the box and textured for this fun shoot,” she says. “Sometimes fun hair is a great complement to a simple dress or look.” The monochromatic look carried through to the makeup. Kristin James of Making Faces Weddings says, “We used multiple shades of pink in different finishes. The eyes were a soft pink shimmer and the lips a high-gloss pastel hue.” Tying everything together, a berry liner.
New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE | 63
A Lyrical Look Setting the stage for the airiness of the shoot, Kathryn Fink of Fink Prints designed stationery with a light, flowing script paired with a clean san serif. “The whole shoot had a very floral feel,” she says, “so I wanted to carry that through” with florals and greens. The result — whimsical, but very classic. 64 | New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE
Romantic Textures For the tablescape, abundant fresh flowers were paired with metallic silk runners, an acrylic table and rope lighting to create what Kristin Burgess calls “romantic textures galore.” The floral arrangement is comprised of the same flowers as the bouquet, with the addition of anemones. Majolika spray roses adorn the tall metal stands; the blossom in the glass is stock. The soft pink and flowing script of the menu carries the theme through.

Sweet Endings “The cake was inspired by the florals and fabrics of the shoot — soft, airy, beautiful,” says Jaime Melfi of Autumn Nomad. It was hand-stenciled with a floral design and hand-painted.

Quiet Moment Photographer Meg Hamilton of Rodeo & Co. created a double exposure of the bride and her bouquet to evoke a feeling of quiet and stillness. A creative twist on the usual, she did it as a challenge. “As an artist,” Meg says, “I love to push myself out of my comfort zone.” 70 | New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE
