A dessert bar with individual servings is a good choice for these days, but you can keep the tradition of cutting the cake with a small one, just 6 inches, like this. The cake, by Eat More Cake, feeds six to 10 people, but many couples keep it for themselves to enjoy during the week following their wedding. Something Blue

Start with blue, everyone’s favorite color. Pair it with white, and a touch of pink and peach. Then add in the relaxed elegance you might find in the French countryside, and, thanks to Sorrell Downing and her team, you have the perfect pastoral setting for your wedding. Planning and Design/Events By Sorrell Photography/Kate Preftakes

New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE | 29

Perfect for a summer day, this Casablanca Bridals gown from Country Bridals and Formal Wear features an embroidered and beaded bodice held up by a tank neckline that crosses over to the back. The voluminous organza and tulle skirt falls in layers toward the train.

30 | New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE

The light and airy bridal bouquet was designed by Allyson Rand and Hannah Ashton of Clementina Floral Co. as a playful nod to late spring and summer gardens in the White Mountains. Built almost exclusively with blooms gathered from local flower farms, the bouquet features New England classics such as foxglove, phlox, straw flower, cosmos and stunning lisianthus. “The intent of the floral design was to invoke the nostalgic feeling of meandering through gardens brimming with native blooms,” Rand says. The T-strap Charlotte heel from Bella Belle Shoes has hand-beaded floral pattern blooms on the toe and heel, with beaded Swiss dot to complete the design.

32 | New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE

A custom crest visually ties the invitation suite together. “I watercolor-painted the crest with blues, pinks and greens surrounding a hand-drawn, vintage-style monogram with interlocking letters,” says Emily Johnson of Tickled Ink Invitations & Stationery. Preppy watercolor stripes are used for the details card and liners. Delicate and fun illustrations edge the reply card and wedding itinerary. Velvet books contain the bride and groom’s handwritten vows, which make the reading of them more personal. They’re also a wonderful keepsake. “Little details take an event from being plain and ordinary to having a wow factor,” says planner Sorrell Downing. The crest and preppy stripes are continued with the two-sided wedding program, which can double as a fan for hot summer days. New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE | 33

34 | New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE

A waterfall — a perfect backdrop for an outdoor wedding. It’s part of the beautiful natural setting of a private estate called Lakefalls Lodge, which is available for a limited number of weddings each season. The Adirondack-style lodge that sits on a lake is rustic but luxurious. The tablescape, styled by Events Delivered, an offshoot of Events By Sorrell, has the feel of France with its blue-and-white toile-patterned table linens, complemented by place settings with blueand-white plates and blue glassware.

“Our aim for this shoot was to exemplify how you can achieve playful elegance without being rigid,” Sorrell Downing, of Events By Sorrell, says. “Classy doesn’t have to be stuffy, and elegant doesn’t have to mean uptight.” The florals bring in soft watercolor accents, with sweet florets of peachy pincushion flower, cream cosmos, jasmine vine and powdery love-in-a-mist. The flowers were locally sourced and foraged from the cutting gardens at the Clementina Floral Co. studio, and placed in foam-free containers. New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE | 35

The toile designs on the cakes carry on the French-inspired theme. The designs, by Amy Christiansen of Eat More Cake, are created by using wafer paper over fondant. They’re 100% edible. Christiansen says, “Individualsize cakes and multiple cake dessert tables are an easier way to create a show-stopping display, even for more intimate weddings.”

A silver tray holds another dessert element — French macarons. Created by Grace Angulas of Graceful Baking, the macarons carry on the color palette. She says, “They are painted with decorations inspired by French toile linen, the monogram details and the watercolor florals.”

New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE | 37

An antique canoe on a serene lake filled with flowers is, as floral designer Allyson Rand says, “a scene fit for a Jane Austen novel” — and perfect for a memorable moment at a wedding. They’ve filled the canoe with blooms of white swan echinacea, native hydrangea and dahlias. New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE | 39

Through the stone archway of the castle-like Walled Garden, you get a view of the architectural details of the historic Lakefalls Lodge. Built in 1918 as a summer camp for a wealthy New York City woman, it was designed to “reflect the character of 40 | New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE

the woods.” In 1990, the Healy family bought the property and restored it to its former glory, adding in contemporary comforts. Set on 250 secluded acres, it provides a number of different settings for a wedding ceremony, both indoors and outdoors.

FUN & FESTIVE Who can resist the bright, splashy colors of Mexico? They’re perfect for creating an ocasión feliz — a joyous occasion. For couples, they provide a ton of ideas for a South-of-the-Border-themed wedding. Planning, Design and Florals: The PRISM House Photography: Rodeo & Co.

Playful, light-hearted, energetic and colorful — that was what Kristin Mitchell of The PRISM House and her team were aiming for with this inspiration shoot. And it starts with the invitation suite by Fink Prints. Just seeing the bright colors and fun font makes you anticipate the good times ahead. The blood orange signals the classic blood orange margaritas that are on their way.

46 | New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE

New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE | 47

Vibrant colors — the bride’s bouquet and earrings, the groom’s bold blue suit — set the mood for the festivities.

48 | New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE

The bridal bouquet, created by The PRISM House, has the shape and color to stand out. “The use of the orange crown imperials gave some asymmetry, while peony, ranunculus and parrot tulips really kicked the texture game up a notch,” floral designer Kristin Mitchell says. The vibrant red suede of the fringed square-heel sandals from Schutz Shoes provides another pop of color, one that matches the fringed earrings. New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE | 49

Set off by the bright gold of the bridesmaid’s dress, the bride’s Hayley Paige gown in ivory makes a statement with the beaded Marrakesh design. The scalloped deep sweetheart neckline has a nude net insert and a T-strap back. The skirt, a flattering full A-line. The bridesmaid dress has a striking high-low hem that’s trimmed with a wide ruffle. Her shoes, from Schutz Shoes, are pink satin square-heel sandals with a tassel tie.

50 | New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE

With the bold surroundings, Lena Hartford of Hair That Moves kept the hairstyle simple. “I started out with a Mohawk and made it look softer but still fun,” Hartford says. “I added in some extra hair to make it grand.” Texture and color were brought in with the florals. For the makeup, Kristin James of Making Faces Weddings drew inspiration from the colors of flowers, pulling from them “a little yellow in a dandelion color and different shades of pink,” making sure the color differed enough to make it stand out. She used lashes top and bottom, lengthening the eye makeup and brow. For the bridesmaid, she chose many shades of pink along the eyes, cheeks and lips for a monochromatic look. New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE | 51

The energetic vibe is on full display with this tablescape. Note the florals that Kristin Mitchell created — the pairing of the traditional soft shape of a hot pink peony with the sharpness of a pincushion portea, adding in cacti, anemone and ranunculus. Tiny yellow oncidium orchids make an impact with their long, elegant stems. The centerpieces also have cascading blood oranges, kumquats, raspberries and blackberries. A tequila shot adorned with a blood orange slice at each place setting — a great way to kick off a celebration.

52 | New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE

New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE | 53

The frosted Mexico glassware with an original design from CatStudio provides color and texture, as do the bright linens. A letterpress menu by Fink Prints announces the meal to come.

Created by Autumn Nomad, this hand-painted cake with fresh fruit and flowers was inspired by Mexican textiles. “The trend is now to take inspiration from all forms of art,” says owner Jaime Melfi. The design and florals are by The PRISM House.
